Property Ratings at Cassady North Apartments
Modern and spacious, yet cozy. Appliances and fixtures are top-notch. Secure parking. Friendly neighbors. Great management! Walk out into a beautiful neighborhood. A Dairy Mart and Natural Market across the street. Only 84 units. Did I mention the great manager? Trust me. I lived in a brand new complex for a year and couldn't wait to move here!!!!! No comparison! Good bones, great management, modern layout, friendly neighbors. My husband and I love living here!
In late August 2020, Cassady North’s management left one-page notes on each tenant's door saying “sorry, we’re canceling your lease and you have 60 days to move out and leave the premise” and did not give a reason why in their three (3) paragraph notice. Tenants were trying to connect with management, to which they literally would not pick up the phone, disconnected their voicemails, and would not respond to requests for follow-up information. It was only after a few days that tenants learned that the property was going to “start a multi-month renovation” that would require all tenants to move out. Again, they attempted to force every single tenant, many of them elderly and/or financially insecure, to find a new place to live with a 2 month notice IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. After tenants essentially banged on the company’s door, called news companies, and reached out to city officials, the "resolution" that Schottenstein came to was to give tenants until May to move out. Again, they did not offer housing assistance, rent reduction, assistance paying utilities (as neighbors began leaving, personal utilities SKYROCKETED and they did not bat an eye at helping the remaining tenants as they were also frantically trying to find a place to live). Now, they will be contributing to the gentrification of one of the only low-cost places to live in a well-off part of Columbus. This kind of stuff isn’t an “inconvenience,” rather it’s a huge burden that will uproot hundreds of people's lives. Even if Cassady North goes under renovations and comes back with peel and stick tile and fake granite countertops, stay far FAR away from Schottenstein properties. FAR.
Since I’ve moved in 2 and a half years ago, they have raised the rent 4 times, changed to no smoking anywhere on the property, and are now trying to force renters to buy renters insurance. For what reason, I’m not sure. It’s not like that leaves them liable, or like it will impact them in any way whether or not someone has renters insurance. Regardless, you can also hear through the old doors. Like as in you can see light and you can hear people talking lightly if they’re in the hallway. When I moved in, the cabinets smelled strange, like old food, and they painted over major deficiencies. You can feel the air coming in through the window as well. The area does have access to a small coffee shop, organic store, dairy mart, and a good beer and wine store right across the street. Otherwise, there are no restaurants and nothing of interest within walking distance. There is a nice garden area outside and if something breaks they try to get it fixed fast.
My husband and I moved to the Columbus area over two years ago and did not know the area. We looked at several apartments in Columbus and the surrounding area, but they were all too small for what we could afford. We chose to look at Cassady North because my son lived nearby and the rent was very reasonable and it is a gated community. When I looked at the apartment I was pleased to see that the living area was large enough for my furniture. The kitchen was large and a separate room. MY only regret is that I do not have hook-ups for a washer and dryer but it does have a laundry room.
