Forever to be known as one of America’s major college towns, South Bend is one of the most vibrant communities in the Midwest. Downtown apartments have become increasingly popular in recent years, and it’s easy to see why—with stellar dining, nightlife, art, and entertainment within walking distance, downtown living is a very attractive option.
Home to several colleges and universities (most famously the University of Notre Dame and an IU campus), South Bend benefits greatly from a strong academic community. Naturally, the world-famous Fighting Irish football team is a big draw for sports fans every autumn. The city is also home to a diverse mix of arts and cultural attractions, including the Morris Performing Arts Center, the South Bend Museum of Art, and numerous live music events throughout the year. South Bend is extremely friendly to walkers, runners, and bicyclists with a growing network of scenic and practical paths covering much of the city.

Property Ratings at Castle Point
Apartments don’t look how they are advertised in the picture so don’t expect to get one, never any parking spaces for the residents that actually live here. Maintenance never comes and fixes anything. The apartments are old so expect bad electrical and mold. Also the utilities and rent is very high. Hope this helps!
my girlfriend was very excited to move in here! the people were attentive at first. genuinely seemed to care and provide some level of service! Even made arrangements to let us start moving in a little earlier than planned! After the docs were signed, that is when the real experience began to change. 1. after moving in, I went to office to provide the money order for move in costs. couple days later, they had apparently misplaced our money order. so we had to send in pictures of the receipt. 2. they charged us late fees, presumably because they misplaced our payment info and thought we had not paid. our account shows all that we paid (on time) but still trying to charge us late fees. (pending resolution nd response) 3. no internet- the entire unit is not wired internally for internet. 4 different technicians have come out. the office and management says its Comcast issue, Comcast says the house needs to be scheduled for wiring after they remodeled and apparently missed ours. It is apparently a situation where the contractors that service comcast need to do the rewiring because of the contractual obligations the property has with comcast...net result- no internet for 5 weeks now. emailed the corporate office/property owners- was able to get a response- however, its more finger pointing and blaming and now no answers are coming at all. still no internet and doesn't seem to bother anyone but us. currently exploring ways to escape this hell scape! seriously - easier to buy a house at this point. 4- the "24 hour" facilities are only open during the same hours most people work. so cant even use the gym even though its advertised they are open 24 hours-. I will gladly try and update this review as things progress.
Applied and approved. Was told verbally by the leasing manager our move in date. When I went to confirm that date it had changed. Leaving my husband, myself and our pets homeless for over a week. We decided because of this not to move forward with living here and they refuses to refund our money back to us. They messed up and lost us as renters and now wont give our money back. Absolutely no care for the fact that this mistake was due to their leasing manager and no fault of ours.
Great apartment space, maintenance could take a while, but that was during the pandemic. I liked having a dishwasher and so much kitchen space. Wish it had a smidge more storage, but we made it work. If not for utilities I probably would have stayed. Electric cost was way too high in the summer and the winter (all electric). I paid more to heat and cool my one bedroom apartment than everyone I know pays for their entire house. Highest month was $280, summer and winter was ~ $200 a month, fall and spring ~80 a month. Yearly average ~$180/month. That's even with monitoring temps to minimize using the heat and A/C, again for just a one bedroom apartment. Previously I paid at most $80 at another complex.
Lived here for 5 years, only moved out because we bought our first house. Never had any problems with neighbors, office was responsive to any work orders I had and it was decently priced. New management within the past year seemed to actually care about the property.
I moved from out of state, and I wish i had read some reviews/talked to some locals before moving here. everytime I tell someone I live at castle point, they tell me they're sorry. This place has apparently been through multiple management teams, and it still cant run correctly! I have had nothing but issues, and the staff is rude! (Except Briana!!) I have an emotional support animal, and they "lost" my paperwork and threatened to evict me twice. I PAY EXTRA for an assigned parking space, but multiple times people have parked there and security (Kyle) refused to get it towed because "the parking here sucks" and it was "probably an accident". I sat in my car from 12:30 am - 2 am waiting for a parking spot to open up. I had to threaten to call the health department because when I was pregnant, they were glazing a bathtub in February with all the windows closed because "it was cold out." I tried to ask the manager if this strong, horrid smell was normal, and he was very rude and dismissive until I asked him if I needed to call the health department, then his attitude did a complete 180. A few weeks later, another resident called the police/fire department because the smell was so strong and I heard people thought there was a meth lab on the complex. There were many other smaller issues I had with my apartment and the staff, but I think those issues are enough. PLEASE listen to me!! You do not want to rent from this place! It will be a miserable experience.
Thin walls, rude office staff, and poorly maintained. Do not move in here if you can avoid it.
Absolutely love it here. Location is awesome maintenance staff is great management is attentive. Lots of resident events. Only downfall is one way in and one way out.

Lived here for almost two years with my boyfriend. We lived in two different apartments. Both apartments had very outdated appliances within the apartments. Some have a washer and dryer (something I didn't know. Because they never told us). We lived in an apartment that did not have a washer and dryer. That means that we always have to go outside into the next building attached to ours to wash our clothes. During the winter time and bad weather it's inconvenient and it just flat out sucks. On top of that the washer and dryers that they do have in the next building aren't guaranteed to work so that means you have to drive to a whole other street within the complex to use their building with washer and dryers. Not all of them work in those buildings either. So getting laundry done takes too long. I've been in my second apartment since October 2017 and it's 2018 now and they still REFUSE to replace the appliances that don't work. Oh not to mention you can't use your own cash to put into the w&d machines to start it. You have to go to the office and constantly put money into a money card if you want to get your clothes washed and dried. Also, they don't provide many payment options. The ONLY option you have to pay your rent is by money order. Which means that you have to drive to the nearest location that provides money orders. Then take it back to the office before they close at 6:00pm. Again..Inconvenient. Lastly...they have two younger girls that work there one is named Farrah. They are by far the rudest staff members I've ever come across. They are also the ones that you will see the most. I've only met 3 other staff members that are friendly but unfortunately you don't get to see them as often. But those two girls act like it's a problem to them when you come into the office with a question or concern. With the way they have their mandatory payment and the money card set up you have to see them often. With attitudes like that how can you feel comfortable? They are definitely another main reason why I won't renew with Castle Point again.
My husband and I are into our third year here at Castlepoint. New to the area we have found that Castlepoint gave us the most "bang for our buck". The staff and maintenance crew work hard. It is a huge complex and has undergone some management shifts but I have found that the staff does their utmost to help a person out and deal with the myriad of issues that come with such a massive property as this. There have been continual improvements since we moved here November of 2015. Apartment life has it challenges for sure.....many people in close quarters and not every one has the same standards. But overall, Castlepoint has worked for as as we have transitioned into a new state and city here in South Bend and we appreciate all that the management does and continues to do.
The most unprofessional leasing staff ever!! Different agents will tell you different prices and different availability of apartments. And they will respond to that with "our prices and availability change on daily basis". But I called twice on the same day, so that wasn't a good enough excuse. And their website is not updated, at least that's what I was told by their agent. And my experience is based on visiting them twice and calling them thrice.

Hello. Thank you for your rating and review of Castle Point Apartments. On behalf of the community and Seldin Company, I would like to apologize to you for the service you received in the leasing office at Castle Point. We strive to provide positive experiences for everyone who lives at or visits all of our properties. I would be happy to help with anything I can and pass along any extra details to the community manager. - Josh, Seldin Company
I was looking around for apartments and really liked what I saw on the website for Castle Point, so I decided to go by and get a look at them. The grounds looked great, and the office is very nice. Also, the staff were very friendly, but informed me that they had no apartments to show. I came back a week later and encountered the same thing. They had open apartments, but none that they could show me. What? How does THAT make sense? They also informed me that their website does not reflect actual availability. If this is the case, why post availability on the web at all? Also, they asked me if I wanted to fill out an application - why would I want to spend money on an application fee on an apartment that I cannot look at? It's unfortunate, but I have to go look elsewhere, since there is no way I would rent something sight unseen.
I am moving up to the area and castle point was my first stop in apartment hunting. The outside is beautiful. It's a gated community with an extremely large fitness center, tanning beds, and a pool. I was mostly interested in the loft because I wanted something different. Luckily the only model they had available to see was the loft. It a strange little offshoot in the front office so the model is not located by the actual apartments. Even the model was kind of dingy and small. There's currently no washer and dryer in the apartments and for the price of the apartment it seemed underwhelming. The woman who showed us around also let us know the prices were going to become even higher making this place a definite no. There were no actual apartments for her to show us and she wasn't sure entirely what the renovations would be in the apartments that would being raising the rent cost. Maybe i visited at a bad time but these apartments seem extremely meh. It's absolutely overpriced for what it is and essentially the high rent cost is going to maintaining a pretty outside and lots of amenities. That will do for some people but it's just not what I'm looking for.
Castle Point Apartments is a great place to live and the nice area and quiet surroundings are excellent.
As a 43 yr old apartment complex, it's really needs help. They just sold this property in July 2015 Seldin Properties bought it. They are really changing everything. Paved the whole parking lots. beautiful job. Replacing doors sidewalks, the works. Also they are going up on the rent, very muchso, we are going to have to move next May. It takes all our money to buy meds, groceries, etc. My husband has been disabled since 2000. Please help us maintain our last few years of happiness left, we are nearing our 50 th wedding anniversary. God is gracious He will make a way.
when I move in I was a little wary, I had read some bad reviews from previous tenants. But the apartment turn out to be nice. it has a brand new management company. There was a couple discrepancies that I had noted upon receiving the apartment. but the management started to fix them right away
A couple months into our lease, Castle Point came under new management. This changed so much ! Before, the maintenance crew used to be lackluster/unwilling to help. For example, our sliding door wouldn't lock anymore so instead of replacing it, they gave us a block of wood to place in the frame to lock it. Now, maintenance is always around the grounds. And when we've needed them, they were here very quickly. The utilities (electric) is slightly high, especially in the winter ($80-$220). Washers and dryers are in the building with a card system instead of coins but it is rumored that they're going to be installed in the units in the future. Lastly, I almost never here people surrounding me in the building, very soundproofed! Overall, Castle Point is worth the amount you pay and is a great place to live.
My apartment on a scale from 1 to 10 is maybe about a 4.5 or 5 at best. I live in a one bedroom apartment on the 1st floor which mean that ants and flies love to come through the patio door from time to time. Although it can get a little annoying. My apartment is cozy and is decorated quite nicely. MY neighbors are super quite and the neighbor hood is very clean and quite. the grass stay cut and the hedges trimmed. my only real complaint is the energy bill is too expensive. In the summer I can not run my air because the bill would be somewhere between 200 to 300 a month. I am working part time and just graduated from college so this would be very hard for me to maintain. Beside that I have no washer or dryer which is annoying as well but seeing that I have a high light bill that probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway.Well that is the end of my review in regards to my apartment. thank you for reading.
