This place is rough. So many problems: old rotting kitchen cabinets, pests galore, slow maintenance responses. Getting an apartment here to save a couple hundred dollars a month was the worst decision I've made in a while.
I had a leak in my apartment that ended up pouring out of my bedroom ceiling. There is water damage all over and a huge hole above my bed. We were not offered anywhere to stay while I room was not habitable. I was told it would be fixed the next day. They said they are only going to patch up the big hole, not even fix all the water damage. Then was told they would start fixing it 5 days later. They still haven’t. There is just plastic covering the hole for now. Maintenance also turn on my thermostat to 72 with fans going in my apartment while I was gone for 2 days, left my lights on, and went through my kitchen cabinets. I’ve tried getting into contact with the property manager to talk about breaking my lease or even being reimbursed for the days. The manager claimed to be sick and wouldn’t meet or talk directly to me. And when I call, the office workers to have them talk to her about reimbursement, they say they will call me back and never do.
Property grounds are well kept and spacious floor plan!
This place isn’t even close to a 4 star and it’s not even close to a 1 star! If I could give it a -100 I would! The staff is rude, they don’t help you with a thing! Constant maintenance issues that the front office never seems to want to fix, construction around the place takes well over a year to fix, everything looks nice from the outside but old in the inside! Trash literally everywhere! And not even in the bins, it’s just laying around the trash cans on the sides and in the front and it’s everything… from food to FURNITURE the staff don’t care so why should the tenants? Dog poop all over the grass, that no one picks up but why should they when the staff do nothing? We have HAPPILY moved out and they blocked our numbers when trying to get a reference for a new place? Do not move here all the bad reviews are TRUE!
This 4.0 is such a lie!!! There is NO Clubhouse. This is only for the staff to use. The swimming pool wasn't open for 3 years straight. There was a pump out, and it took them 3 years before we had a pool in our complex area. The staff are among the Rudest people I have Ever met. Before they replaced the AC/Heating units the one in my apartment caught on fire 2 times!! Smoked me out of my apartment, and they never even offered to do any cleanup from it!!! Run from this place!!! Also, the appliances are probably from the 1980's, literally!!!
Older apts but huge, and clean. Any issues that I have had are taken care of pretty quickly. Cheap for the amount of space!
Poor quality laundry machines that require you to run the dryer multiple times to get your clothes dry, along with multiple machines needing service that haven’t been fix for over a year. Construction crew doesn’t pick up after themselves, I have personally picked up dozens of nails in the parking lot. Trash is left all over around garbage bins
Very very unhelpful staff. Maintenance quit regularly. They do not care about helping they will never give you set times or dates. The current property manager and assistant will happily give you attitude very confrontational. Expect stuff to break and them not to fix it for very long periods of time
Terrible management. I have had a mice issue for 8 months now and they won’t do anything about it. I have caught 4 in my traps and can hear more in the walls and ceiling and still the apartment won’t do anything.

I was kinda scared with the bad reviews but I didnt have any other options. I moved in around october last year. So far the staff have been very helpful in trying to fix any issues I've reported. I had an issue with my sink and it got fixed in 1 day! They've always been very friendly.
The manager at Cedar Crest is extremely rude, arrogant and has no business being in a customer service field. I made several complaints about the smell of cigarette smoke and the odor of marijuana inside my apartment (which was in a non-smoking building) and the manager advised me that it was alright to smoke. The manager dismissed my complaints without ever coming to my apartment to see what I was talking about. However on 10-16-2018, I was awakened at 5:30 am by the SWAT team, ATF (alcohol, tobacco and firearms) team and several uniformed officers / canines who had surrounded my building, broke down my neighbors door and made an arrest of 5 individuals. They also removed several weapons and drugs from the apartment. Amazing, but the smell of marijuana that was contstantly coming through the air vents is now gone. Maybe if they had investigated my complaints this situation could have been avoided. Doesn't say much for the safety of the complex either
Property Manager at Cedar Crest Apartments, Responded To This Review
It is unfortunate that an anonymous post was inaccurately and slanderously made. Cedar Crest has zero non-smoking or smoke free buildings on property. Every tenant at Cedar Crest has the right to smoke cigarettes within their own home, balcony area included. Any reports made to the Cedar Crest office regarding marijuana would be referred to the Overland Park police department. As we are not law enforcement officers we are unable to determine or investigate such illegal activity. While we are not the police and unable to investigate the smell of marijuana we can only assume that you were working with the police regarding any issues or concerns you were having. Every tenant of Cedar Crest must go through the same screening process to qualify to live here. While we work closely with all law enforcement in all situations crime has no address and happens everywhere. It is ridiculous to imply that Cedar Crest is in any way responsible for police matters or for your safety.
The area is a great location and the apartment layouts and patios are nice but that’s the greatest and only “perk”. They do not allow access to the bathroom/spa/sauna after they close their office around 5pm/6pm. The two years I’ve been here the spa they sold me on has never been open-it’s always broken. High turnover rate for office workers and maintenance. The women in the office especially the managers are unhelpful and rude and writing personal checks get a little sketchy when they “insist” you were late. The clubhouse for the second pool is used for employee storage. They frequently close this pool because they don’t maintain it. The only one that has landscaping and is clean is the one behind their office because that’s the one they show to potential renters. Because of their inability to provide bathrooms for the pools everyone pees in the bushes in and around the pool area. They also open the pool weeks after others do and close it a few weeks early compared to others. Insulation cannot even be called insulation-whether you want it cool/hot be prepared to pay upwards of $130-$150 a month. The list goes on and on but take my advice-be weary when renting here. It’s also dangerous during the winter, they do not treat or clear the area of ice or snow. Oh! The bugs-i even live in an upstairs apartment and I get brown recluses, centipedes and roaches and I’m a clean person! I also worry about the brown recluses because I have a child. They do not treat for bugs unless you call a specific day to ask them to put you on a list. Even then the exterminators are cheap and not thorough. They rush through their work and soon enough the bugs are back. Bottom floor apartments are worse. They never answer their office phone. Lastly, good luck walking around the place and attempting to miss the dog poop everywhere. I complained about the neighbor letting her dog poop at our front door to the apartments-they said they had had a few complaints and said they’d record it but that’s all they could do.
The parking lots are horrible. Never cleared when there is snow. The apartment have plenty of room for stack-able washer and dryers in the bathroom- they are greatly needed. There is on site laundry is a few of the buildings, but it is very hard to get to with steep steps (not good in the ice) and they are always in use. 4 washer and 4 dryer for about 30 apartment just does not work! People are always moving your clothes. Half the time the washing machines do not work and when you call the number to get refunds nothing ever happens. Maintenance has also entered the apartment without any notice for a air filter change. When you work the night shift and someone enters the apartment without my knowledge that could have ended badly. The windows are very drafty and the kitchen is very small and all the appliances are very old. My dishwasher is always being worked on and I have had several problems with my garbage disposable. Management is okay, they will not send you a copy of your lease like they promise and you really have to watch your end lease date. They will also try to charge you for any little thing. If you mini blinds are messed up they want to send in maintenance to replace all of your blinds and charge you for it.
first off this place is priced ok. But management is so horrible. they wont fix anything. my stove is broken, and the numbers are faded I have asked them to fix the fan in the bathroom. they haven't it's been a week. also it snowed and iced over and no one will clean the parking lot. on top of that their is dog poop every where. im moving out within 3 months I cant live here anymore. please read the reviews i didn't believe them and now I'm regretting it.
This property is a rip off!!! The staff is GARBAGE with a VERY HIGH turnover rate so you never know WHO you're gonna deal with! The property Manage Nicole is NEVER available so she sends her guard dogs to help you. It's been a year and I STILL haven't been able to speak with her about all these problems. My dishwasher has been broken for over 6 months and maintenance is Horrible with a HIGH turnover rate. They sent a dude they hired from a temp service to "fix" it and he flooded my kitchen!!!! He was smelly and smelled of alcohol. Don't rent from here unless you're down on your luck and desperate.
The location is great. The apartments are a comfortable size and are cute. Buildings are old and pipes frequently back up. We went 3 weeks without being able to do dishes because of water back up. But even with all that, It’s really all the staff that makes this place unbearable. The girls in the office are unnecessarily rude at all times. They lie about receiving paperwork, have hung up on us and do not get back to you in a reasonable amount of time. The maintenance takes forever to come, sometimes weeks and when they come they only ever give a short term fix and within another week or so, the same things is. Ot working again. We’ve also had the maintenance men yelling at one another in our parking lot, cussing and threatening to fight each other. All around, a promising location and complex. We love the area. Great prices. But I would advise against leasing here.
Don't waste your money or your time. The neighbors are atrocious and rude. The office staff does not care and are probably more rude with zero customer service. The hot tub was disgusting and never worked. No one picked up after their dogs, our neighbors did nothing but smoke weed all day so guess what our apartment smelled like...don't even get me started on maintenance. Good luck getting your deposit back when you move out!
Apartments are outdated, appliances break easily or don't even work (don't expect quick repairs), most outlets don't work, doors don't shut, windows leak, riddled with bugs and rodents, and the buildings all smell like cigarette smoke. Don't trust these people with a personal check either! they'll process it late on purpose and hit you with late fees even if you gave it to them on the 1st!! Give them money orders and make sure you get a receipt!!!!

Ensure you read your contract closely as they lead you to believe other things than what is in the lease. even with a witness as my wife was sitting there when they told us. They then tell you, you have a credit on you account then send you less than what your credit is and all they can say is sorry for your misunderstanding. They will not provide you with any statement of accounts to ensure the accounting is correct on my account. Be very weary of this apartment. I would not recommend event thought we lived there for 2 years and moved out because we bought a house. Katie explained to me and my wife that we would get our lease break fee back if is was rented before the month ended. When even verified with Katie that the unit was rented and we should get the fee back when we turned in the keys. To our surprise the refund did not come. also they misinform you with your final Apartment dispositions and send less that what shows on this form. When I called about this Laren was not helpful and said if I want a copy of my statement I would have to take them to court. That's a little shady!
I love cedar crest. I have had 5 leases here and have never had a problem. They maintain there places. They have 2 pools. They are right next to metcalf which is helpful in getting around town. I love these apartments.
The price isn't too bad for the space but every time I call they never answer or call back after leaving messages. Just this month alone my husband and I have killed 3 large spiders even though they did infestation spraying. Good size rooms but older things and poor caulking.
we have been here for almost 2 years and are happy with these apartment homes. they have monthly maintenance which you get a flyer in advance on the date and time. a supervisor from the office always is present with the handy men as they provide the service. a very nice club house with a workout room,sauna,steam rooms,tennis courts, and pool. i wish the pool was expanded to make it larger .there would be room with a big lawn area next to the fenced in pool. my only complaint i guess would be the single pane windows don't help much in the summer or winter to keep out the hot and cold temperatures.
I've been at this location for about a year and a half, and it is one of the best living experiences I've ever had. The apartments are clean and well maintained, the rent is reasonable, the complex is close to several businesses, making shopping easy. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. On the rare occasion that I have needed Maintenance to come out to my Apartment, they responded and fixed the issue quickly. I would, and have recommended this location to several of my friends who are looking for an apartment. It's a great place to live, the neighbors are friendly, and the walls are well insulated so you wont hear anyone else.
I love my Apts been there for about 2 months now.. location great, size great, staff very responsive.
