Want to sign your lease and then have the management tell you you need to touch up the paint on your car? Rent here! Want to get pesticide sprayed on you through your window because they can't instruct their groundskeepers to not spray through open windows? Sign right up! Want a 10 page list of everything to clean when you move out, including such gems as claiming you're supposed to *pull the refrigerator away from the wall to clean behind it*? And that if you ever burned a candle in your apartment that you'll be on the hook for "professional blind cleaning"? Go ahead, rent from Toonen! You'll be paying "luxury" rates and you won't even have a washer and dryer in your unit, you'll get a coin operated common laundry room - oh and you'll have to run the dryer approximately five times before your clothes will be dry. So have fun with that.
If you smoke you can’t even smoke outside and must prove you are 3 months clean to even apply. I wanted to move here with a friend from out of state and the process was so difficult we just found somewhere else.
Overall, I am feeling decent about some of the conditions of the apartment. I do feel like this is due to the regional manager that was here for a bit. She was rude, neglectful of tenants maintenance requests, and even disrespectful to some employees. We noticed when we moved in there were two huge noticeable stains in the carpet. Now mind you we were advised every apartment gets the carpet cleaned before the next tenant moves in per the leasing agent and the maintenance man. I don't find this to be true as we were able to clean the stains ourselves and get the stains out. Whereas if a actual carpet cleaner came in, this carpet would have been spotless then. While the regional manager was only here for a few months taking over for the actual property manager, we didn't get helped much and felt as if tenants aren't cared for. The plus side though, the actual property manager is back and she is super nice and definitely gets stuff done. She cares about the tenants and makes sure if the requests are reasonable they are done. The lake is gorgeous even though we haven't been here for the summer yet and the fitness room/ community center has a great view. We live in one of the older buildings but overall I can't really complain about anything else except the carpet was not seeming to be cleaned before we moved in and is still kind of gross and old, and the regional manager was rude and definitely should not be in that role, as she makes a bad impression for this place.
The owners of this property are to cheap, and strict when renting from this company. Even when your balcony is barely visible they moniter it and will send emails telling you to remove something they don't like immediately. They will charge you for things that should have been replaced years ago. Our carpet was already stained when we moved in, and over the 5 years we were there a couple more spots were added. When we moved out we were charged 400$ to clean said carpet, and to clean carpet in common hallway which is used by all tenants of that building. When moving out you can spend days cleaning each individual room, but they will claim its all disgusting and charge you to have it professionally cleaned. They find every little thing that exists or doesnt even exist and charges you for it, even when it should have been replaced before you moved in. When asking why we were charged to clean common hallway, that everyone uses, my wife was told that it was our fault, and in almost exact wording to "act like an adult and just pay the bill". There is several more harsh ways to describe toonen that I would use but can't, apartment is decent, but the company that owns it doesnt care about its tenants and all it cares about is finding ways to charge its tenants so they can save a few bucks.
