Property Ratings at Cedar Lake Apartments & Townhomes
They are just worried about money and never show up for any maintainace issue. We came to this apartment 6 months back and asked them to fix fridge side racks. They never fixed it and we used without racks. Even the mesh doors at the backside won't lock properly. I will not recommend to move into this apartment.
There is mold. Black mold. It had plagued these buildings for years. One person had gotten lung cancer from this place. After we began complaining about mold they pushed us out of the apartment by deciding with no response to not renew our lease. No explanation in the middle of the pandemic. It was illegal to do. Rent was always paid, no complaints, no issues except on our end. We all began having health problems and now I suddenly have asthma and lung problems. My entire life I've been healthy as a horse. No history of asthma no history in my family of lung problems or asthma and I rarely even had colds. I'm sure the property will say something snarky back in their response try to get this deleted and state that they didn't own the property or that it's difficult to maintain maintenance for a 30 year old building. Don't believe any of it. Someone needs to seriously investigate this place like building and Health Inspectors. They pushed many senior residents out of the buildings and those with children to opt for the younger professional type. Go check out some reviews on other websites about this place even Google has pictures with mold from other people. I don't know who the people are writing these fantastic reviews but the ones that are talk about mold money and repair issues those are the real ones.
The only redeeming quality if this place is location. We've been here for 2.5 years and are getting out ASAP. We've experienced... - A stolen motorcycle - Gun magazine full of ammo in the grass - Second motorcycle had parts stolen - A caved-in ceiling - Months of broken appliances - Zero snow maintenance. I've had to self-shovel the front entrance when a neighbor was stuck Cedar Lake overcharges, provides zero maintenance, and will not let you leave without paying over 5k. Many units are vacant and prices keep going up. If you do rent here, please note they'll negotiate 20% off your rent if you play hard ball. They're dying for cash.
We were promised a renovated apartment and were excited to move in but we regret our decision. As you walk the stairwell and all over the second floor town homes the fool and creaking noise is unbearable for the people in the room below. Bathrooms are old and toilets leak and make noise keeping you up all night even after they have been supposedly fixed. Moving out at the end of lease. New cabinets in kitchen and bathrooms including vinyl flooring but they all look cheap and not well done in comparison with the money you pay in rent.
We JUST moved in and found our entire wall behind the furnace has black mold. I'm freaking out as I read reviews dating back 4 years about the same problem from other Tennant's. Run!
We moved in yesterday, and they didn’t tell us they had to backorder a part for the A/C. We’ve been sleeping on the floor under the fan because it’s too hot. Next week it’s supposed to be in the 80s. Update: They supposedly fixed our air conditioning, and we’re very friendly about it, but it’s still super hot in our apartment. There’s also a crazy amount of bugs, which is strange because we keep the place very clean. There are also a bunch of wires showing behind the electrical box outside, which seems like a hazard. Overall, the staff is very nice but the buildings themselves suck.
It’s a great place to live and location. It’s only a five minute drive to downtown Northville or Plymouth and thirty minutes from Ann Arbor or Detroit. The staff are really cool and friendly along with the neighbors. There is a awesome arboretum with in walking distance to hike. I never had any problems while living here and encourage anyone considering to move here to give them a call
Great place to live. We moved from Alabama and the transition was challenging, however, the staff at cedar lake made the process easy and enjoyable. In addition, a place that allows dogs is a great amenity as well. Lastly, great parks and walking paths nearby.
I continue to have mold issues that I have addressed with the office and I know where they are stemming from but yet they do nothing. My fear is that they will not renew my lease and I have to stay here. Their goal is to move all of the old residents/people that were living here out and upgrade the units to rent them out to a younger market for a higher cost. If you complain or have any issues they will find a way for you not to renew your lease. They are quietly doing this from each building one at a time and they are finding the mold issues that's part of the reason why they are doing it. The mold is really bad in the walls from years of neglect.
Property Manager at Cedar Lake Apartments & Townhomes, Responded To This Review
You sound as if you are a long term resident and have enjoyed your tenure at Cedar Lake, so please contact the manager immediately if you are being plagued with something so serious in nature. Woodbury Management purchased Cedar Lake in June of 2015 and have not been made aware or are aware of any mold in the community. As you can attest to I am sure, we have continuously worked to make the community better since purchasing, by adding new roofs, painting the exterior, adding uniform landscaping, seal coating the parking lot, renovating the pool, tennis courts, and yes upgrading several units as they become vacant. We are renovating the community because it was built over 30 years ago. I am sure you can understand it is difficult to maintain a 30 year old asset without doing some sort of upgrade, as technology, supplies and parts change as well.
I rented a one bedroom lower level apartment. After the flood of August 2014, I noticed that the corner of my living room floor was wet. I moved my floor lamp and my late father's vinyl LP's out of the corner, and pulled back the rug - MOLD. BLACK MOLD. They agreed to move me to another apartment, and they hired 3 Men and a Truck to move my belongings to another unit. Once the movers arrived and saw the mold, they refused to stay and finish the job, due to health risks. I was told I should stay elsewhere due to the health risks. Management found another moving company that was willing to do the job. Of course, things got broken and ruined that could not be replaced. I had to re-enter the moldy unit about a week later to get the last of my belongings that the movers did not get. The carpet had been pulled up, and I saw that the mold ran all along the east wall of the living room all the way to the bedroom. There was also mold along the baseboards of the shared wall of the living room and bathroom. I moved out of the complex in March 2015. In May 2015, I was diagnosed with stage 1A lung cancer. I had developed a cough that would not go away, and they saw a pea sized mass in my right lung. The rest of my lungs, my surgeon told me, were healthy and pink. He said I was very lucky, that it is rare to find lung cancer at such an early stage. My life has changed forever, as I was an avid mid distance runner. It has been over a year since my surgery, and I am still not feeling "normal." I had brought many things to the attention of the management team who was there at the time, but they would just "put a band aid" on it and be done. This property is no longer owned by Wingate Management, but that doesn't change the topography of the property, or necessarily their attentiveness to very valid problems you may experience with the structure. My advice is to stay far, far away from Cedar Lake Apartments.

Please note Woodbury Management purchased Cedar Lake Apartments and began management in June of 2015. This review although posted in 2016 states the issue is with the former management company. We are unaware of this resident and complaints. We have done extensive renovations to both the exterior and interior of the community. We are not aware or made aware of any apartments with mold issues from current or past residents.
Cedar Lake is a great place to call home. It is quiet and friendly. It is close to local parks and schools as well as being near to downtown Northville and to the freeways.
We really love the apartments for many reasons, is located in one of the best towns in Michigan, in less than two miles around you have everything what you need ( schools, markets, and shopping mall). The staff is very friendly and helpful. And you don't need to worry about anything.
The new management team that took over in June has done such a great job. They have made updates to landscaping, and the buildings. I moved into an upgraded apartment with granite countertops, new cabinets, ceramic tile floors and shower walls and new appliances. The community is clean, and you can tell the staff cares. They serve breakfast twice a month, and try to keep the residents engaged with activities. On Christmas Eve, when other places were closed the staff made all of us residents a hot breakfast! I love living at Cedar Lake!
My boyfriend and I have recently moved up here at the beginning of January and so far we love it! It has for sure exceeded our expectations. It's super quite and the maintenance has been very quick to respond to our requests! We love that it is minutes away from everything that this town has to offer. The residents are all super nice as well. The property is well kept and all of the staff will go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. If you are looking for a place to call "home" come live at Cedar Lake Apartments; you wont regret it!!
I truly have been very grateful for all of the improvements made throughout the community in 2015 by the new management company. Specifically, the painting of the buildings and landscaping, as we enter the complex. The frosting on the cake is our new manager and maintenance. Always so very pleasant to us and have done their best to make sure we are taken care of. We are 30 year residents come October 2016!
One month after we moved into Cedar Lake Apartments, the business was bought by Woodbury Management Group. We were nervous at first, but I must say the change was definitely for the better. All buildings were repainted, roofing was redone, and the management is extremely helpful with anything that needs fixing and patient with residents. The pool and grounds are always kept clean. We love taking the walking path to view the lake. Our favorite thing about Cedar Lake is the layout of our townhome; the upstairs is only one bedroom so our living room downstairs has high vaulted cathedral ceilings giving it a very cozy vibe. Even though we have neighbors on both sides, it's almost like our unit is soundproof - we can never hear anyone outside the apartment and it makes our unit feel like our own private home. Northville has a cozy downtown and lots of great restaurants on the busy outside of town, and Cedar Lake is right in the middle of it all.

Wow, thank you so much for this great review. We are glad to be of service. We are working very hard to make Cedar Place Apartments the best place to live in Northville. We appreciate you helping us do that with your kind words. Look forward to more exciting changes as we move into 2016! We love our residents! You guys are awesome!
We are renting a nice first floor one bedroom apartment. When I was looking for the apartment for us I had specific requirements in mind. Like we needed to be able to bring our dogs with us and I wanted a washer and dryer in our Apartment. AND we wanted a first floor with patio so it would be more convenient for our fur babies. Harder than you'd think to find those things all in one place. But I found it on Apartments.com, asked for more information. The next day Kieona called me answered my questions and made an appointment for us to come out and tour the Apartments. The neighborhood is friendly and maintenance keeps the property clean and tidy.
