West Southwest 2 is a bustling neighborhood located along Interstates 470 and 70, bordered by the Kansas River to the north. Most of the neighborhood’s tree-lined streets are filled with single-family homes with rental options consisting of houses and apartments in affordable price ranges and a variety of styles.
Renters will find they have plenty to do in West Southwest 2 with Gage Park, home of Topeka Zoo, located towards the center of town. Cedar Crest, the home of the Kansas State Governor, and MacLennan Park’s multiuse trails are located along the Kansas River, providing a plethora of outdoor adventures. Casual chain and local restaurants as well as grocers and other retailers can be found on the edges of West Southwest 2.

Property Ratings at Chalet Apartments
The manager Eustacia and her crew did an amazing job at getting me in quickly and staying in contact to get me into my apartment and I couldn’t thank them enough. Highly recommend the chalet apartments for the efficiency and communication.
I am a new resident & it's been a nightmare from day 1. They did not have my apartment move-in ready on 1/13/2023...promised & promised...not cleaned at all, including carpet. They claim it was & there's NO WAY. They knew I was moving from Wichita, KS...I feel they took grave advantage of this & I'm living out of boxes, in a filthy apartment w/ SO MANY THINGS NEEDING REPLACEMENT, few can be fixed...DO NOT CONSIDER RENTING HERE UNLESS YOU CAN SEE THE UNIT 1ST & CHECK EVERYTHING CAREFULLY.
I lived at the Chalet for six years and I loved living there. At. First. After the old management company sold the property, things went downhill so fast, you'd think you were skiing. Nothing got fixed, basic supplies never were replenished in the fitness center, AC broke REGULARLY. I had a request for a leaky faucet to be fixed and no lie, it took over a YEAR to be fixed. Same with my busted patio screen door - except that one took 18 months. There are rats and mice all over the property - all you get for complaining is a glue trap and a shrug. Basement area storage floods regularly and damages belongings. Stay away.
The pictures are for the couple of remodeled units they have, none are available. The majority are old and dated with appliances from the 70s with carpet just as old. Dingy rooms in general not worth your time. Stop catfishing pics
Location is great, but they do not fix anything you ask. My mother moved in there and the door to her stove was broken, as in you open it and the door came off in your hand. She was there for a year and asked multiple times to fix it, and it never got fixed. She also had cabinet doors in her kitchen that were not on the hardware, she eneded up fixing those things herself. They let people smoke in the apartments so they smell horrible. Be careful if you drive a nice vehicle in their lot, the pot holes in their parking lot are HUGE and deep and everywhere!! Not worth the money, keep looking, as they should keep looking for new management.
Bunch of liars. Management completely unprofessional. Nothing ever gets fixed in a timely manner. Don't live here. Not worth the headache.
Being across from Gage Park is wonderful, and the Chalet community has a lot of older, long-time residents. But after the Chalet changed owners 3 years ago the quality of life has gone downhill. The new owners haven't equipped the on-site staff with the funds, personnel, experience and training to keep up with work orders. Some have gone 4 months or longer without certain repairs being cared for. Many apartments have reported problems with mice. Also, there are some instances where bad behavior of a few tenants is tolerated. - The prior management would not have renewed their lease if they were disruptive to the community. But the current management tolerates bad behavior at the expense of other tenants. A lot of long time tenants have moved out or are planning to. Sad to see the decline - the new owners need to realize what a gem they have in the Chalet and its long-time tenants, and invest more money in it.
Location is fantastic right across from Gage Park. If you have kids or a dog this is a safe neighborhood not far from busy Wanamaker. Apartments are older and have had issues with Wasps, but management had it sprayed and since have not had any return. Two pools that are well maintained and a recently opened fitness center in the clubhouse are some nice added features.
