Situated a few miles west of the University of Florida, West Gainesville is the neighborhood where retail, residential, and rural collide. West Gainesville conveniently borders State Route 24, which provides easy access to other areas as well as massive retail centers. Celebration Pointe, Butler Plaza, and their surrounding plazas are all located along this road. If you’re searching for outdoor adventures, you’ll find it in town at Split Rock Conservation Area and Clear Lake Nature Park. The other parts of West Gainesville are made up of residential neighborhoods holding an array of affordable apartments.

Property Ratings at A3555 Chelsea Lane
I’ve lived here for a few months now. The apartment is updated with laminate floors and distributed nicely for an apartment of 560 sq ft. My neighbors are non-students or grad students, they’re all pretty quiet which is super nice. Although it’s right on 20th ave, its still pretty quiet and traffic isn’t too bad. On the weekends though, you do have the fire trucks passing with their sirens maybe 2-5 times on a Saturday. I live on the bottom floor, the upstairs you can hear them walk around. I think the walls are on the thinner side, but I feel like that’s kind of expected for an apartment. Inside the apartment there’s not a lot of storage space. In the pictures, there’s a closet next to the kitchen. It’s has the AC and water heater, so 25% of it is actual closet space. Super close to campus and a few routes will take you from the bus stop next to Chelsea Lane to the Hub. Overall I think the apartment is a great space to start with and especially starting with no furniture - we made it homey with a few things. Also, Management is pretty good at sending someone to fix things quickly. Issue with the apartment: it’s the apartments behind Chelsea Lane. Since the bedroom is in the back, it’s right next to the parking lot of West 20. On the weekends at the early hours (3-5 am), there are people who are burning tire into the West complex, at one point doing donuts, and blasting music from their parked car. On the regular, saturday/sundays early morning people fire several shots (I’m assuming up since I haven’t heard them hit anything). It’s so close that you can hear whoever they are, talking and laughing. It doesn’t feel safe in this regard, I’m anxious about a stray bullet or them losing control of their car when they do donuts. It’s such a regular thing, that I’m not planning to renew my lease for this reason.
I have been doing some apartment hunting now that I am moving and I know how helpful it is to read honest reviews. I have lived at Chelsea Lane for almost 3 years now. I moved in 2015 and will be moving out this year (2018). I really enjoyed living here and thought it was a good for my first "adult" apartment. This is small complex and it doesn't have a gym or pool, which was perfectly fine with me. Pros: - The kitchen and bathroom have updated finishes. The appliances could be classified as "dated" but they worked perfectly fine for me and I actually enjoyed the look of my "dated" stove. The microwave I had in my unit was upgraded though. - Because I live on the 2nd floor I have an extra storage closet which is a bonus - Even though the complex is on a busy street the apartment doesn't get terribly noisy and because the bedroom is located in the back it is nice and quite. - Maintenance is pretty quick to solve any issue you have - Location is great! Close to the university, shopping and there is a bus stop a short walk away. It's located near the start of 20th Ave off of 34th street so you're not sitting in that rush hour traffic for too long. Cons: - The parking lot has just enough spots for the residents and a few guests. Some of the spots are a little narrow so if one person parks incorrectly, it affects almost everybody else near that spot. - The drain in the parking lot overflows when there is super heavy rain. Parking near the drain when it pours is not a good idea because there is ankle deep water. - There isn't a lot of counter space in the bathroom - There is a fire station down the road so every now and again there are fire trucks that drive by with their sirens (not too big of a deal though) - I noticed that certain time of the years I would find dead cockroaches in my apartment. Not a crazy amount, but they do spray for pest control. And it's Florida so you are going to get bugs here and there, but I would absolutely not classify it as a "pest issue"
