Property Ratings at Chestnut Place
I rented a 1x1 from Chestnut place with my partner, and moved after 10 months in June. The unit itself was exactly as described, save a few aesthetic blemishes here and there. My horrible experience stems from an absolutely ridiculous run around with management and maintenance. I submitted a work order for damages to our front door frame and lock in early March, and was not taken care of until after we left the premises, almost FOUR MONTHS LATER. The damages to the door left it very unsafe and a hazard to us as it continued to fall apart and splinter as time went on. Despite contacting the onsite management weekly via telephone AND email, we got barely any responses, and were completely out of the loop, just waiting for any kind of answer or information. In May (2 months after the service request), we got notice that maintenance had come by to address the door, only to find that the onsite manager/maintenance and property manager misdiagnosed the issue and ordered the wrong parts. We were then told that they would just go ahead and order a pre-hung door, which shouldn't cost more than $100. I felt like my safety was at risk for months and they made no efforts to make me feel like this was a priority at all. Now, after living in an apartment that is light years ahead of the service and management skills of Chestnut Place, we receive our deposit information in the mail to find that not only did we not receive any of our $800 deposit back, but property manager Bluestone and Hockley is charging us an extra $300 for the "custom door" and labor. Let me remind you, this property waited until we left the apartment to even attempt to fix the door to make it SAFE, and now we are being charged the whole deal after the fact. All the asinine run around aside, this property did not attempt to communicate with us regularly about this issue AT ALL. On top of that, the maintenance person sent by Bluestone and Hockley is only around once every couple of weeks, so even if whomever diagnosed our issue wasn't incompetent and ordered the correct parts, we still would have had to wait an inappropriate amount of time for something that should have been deemed an emergency. I am beyond shocked that a tenant and customer of a business would be treated this way, and there are no excuses for extremely poor customer service. Enjoy the cheap rent and dodgy facilities, but heavens help you if you have to call maintenance for something more than a broken blind.
