Nestled into the triangle formed by Interstate 495, Highway 1, and the North Kings Highway, Huntington is a popular Alexandria suburb for many reasons. Charming cottages and duplexes helped the area gain popularity in the 1940s, but it’s also home to modern apartment communities that have made the area perfect for commuting professionals and families alike. The neighborhood blends both a laid-back suburban vibe with the more imposing apartments near Hunting Creek. There are a few restaurants and stores in neighboring communities like Belle View, but the real action is just across the creek in Old Town. The Huntington Metro train makes for an easy public transit commute to Washington, DC, about 10 miles north. Residents also enjoy proximity to Ronald Reagan National Airport.

Property Ratings at Cityside Huntington Metro
Pros: Free shuttle to Huntington Metro, and close to Old Town. Pretty ample space for the price nowadays in Alexandria. Cons: No a/c until May 15th (you will be sorry when it's 95 degrees outside in the spring and cannot sleep), works on an old boiler system that breaks down weekly. The main entrance door is always broken and homeless people sometimes sleep in the lobby. Security is poor. Police are often in the building. My experience: They have carbon monoxide detectors that randomly go off, but maintenance has told me they are defective and do not actually detect anything. My fridge broke a few months ago and maintenance said it might happen again because the unit is 25 years old but that they would not be replacing it. All four of someone's tires got stolen in the 6034 parking lot. I only had one roach (yippee). Oh and if you decide to stay for more than a year, your rent will increase by $200 at least (in income-capped housing??).

We invite you to contact cityside@donaldsonmgt.com or call 703-329-0400 to discuss these and any other matters that concern you.
The apartment has deteriorated from year to year. Live here for 5 years roaches and rats are living rentfree, dog poop is everywhere neighbors smoke weed in their household not only comes to the corridors but also cames to your room as if yourself is smoking when you call off. For complaint, they disregard your problem instead of finding a solution for the entire community move out ASAP

STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. The one star is for the sole purpose that my unit is very pretty, light, and has a good layout. However we got the model apartment I've heard and the others are outdated. WAY too overpriced for a building infested with cockroaches, water heating issues, and cheaply made. Also there's no heat or AC. No matter what you do, no matter how many times the exterminators come out or how much raid you use, you will have roaches 100%. The showers are hot at first then go ice cold, then you have to run it for a while to get it hot again and just stand there cold. Super annoying. They will shut off the water some days for 8 hours saying they're doing maintenance but the isssue never goes away. Everything falls apart, every door, every handle, anything that can fall off, will. Certain residents have absolutely no respect and throw their trash outside the trash rooms and don't put it down the chute, they block the door so you can't throw your trash away leading to it piling up in your home. This place is absolutely disgusting and management does literally nothing to help. Have talked to multiple other residents and they agree and want out. Save your money and DONT MOVE HERE.

Qualifies as a slum. Roaches $300+ electric bill for 1 br apt on the basement level!! Only 1 building is livable. In response to previous replies from mgmt: They are well aware of pests. Had to choose 1 star there should be an option for zero.

I have been living at Cityside for over four years and recently started experiencing problems with roaches. This is an ongoing problem. The trash room is improperly maintained and is contributing to the roach problem. The air conditioner in my building was broke for a month. Just a horrible experience. I will not renew my lease.
Property Manager at Cityside Huntington Metro, Responded To This Review
We want to thank you for being a loyal resident for four years! We regret that issues with pests and the functionality of your air conditioner have left you feeling unhappy, and we would like to patiently listen to your concerns in more detail. When you have a moment, please email us at customerservice@thedonaldsongroup.com. Thank you, in advance, for the opportunity to resolve your concerns and restore your comfort in our community.
Broken elevators, air conditioning not working they can cold down just until 77 then can’t go lower than that, the hallways are not clean even though you pay 35 monthly for trash and cleaning service, they have many different third parties and each company makes their own bill and they charge $2-4 as billing fees but you will end up paying extra $10 as billing fees even if you pay online there will charge you fees. These time of days if you ask for maintenance service they will not do it they said they only do emergency repairs due to COVID-19, but at the same time they started sending families having children to court for eviction while Covid still going on, so they taking advantage of COVID for their own benefit, I been living here for +10 years but the current company just bought the building and they aren’t good as the old one, so I’m leaving this place. My recommendation to you, thinking about moving some where else before you choose Cityside side, hope I helped someone here, thanks

I'm currently a resident here looking to leave. My unit is full of roaches even though I do not leave food out and wash dishes daily. As soon as its evening time and I turn on the lights, I see multiple roaches on the walls, around the cabinets, sink, dishwasher, etc. I have found them in my bedroom, my bathroom, everywhere. The residents themselves, while they are generally nice people, they for some reason like to leave trash in the hallway and in the trash room instead of throwing them down the chute or cleaning up after themselves. I do not understand the security concerns of management. The first few months, they left both the front and back doors open for everyone to come in whenever. Now they are both locked tight, and multiple residents who do not know the code because they changed it or have a new key fob are stuck outside waiting for someone to hopefully open the door for them.

Rent is raised minimum $100 each year. There’s roaches everywhere. Water gets shut off at least once a month. There’s some really nice employees that work in the office and some that don’t like to help you and have a nasty attitude. Theres a few other apts near by that are cheaper and nicer.

I lived in the 6038 building for most of 2013. The only laundry room in the building was closed for quite a few months for fire damage repair, so we had to carry our laundry to one of the other buildings to wash it. The trash chute was also "closed for repair" for several months, during which time we had to carry all of our garbage down the elevators and out to the dumpster. The buildings two elevators were constantly breaking down. When I asked Cityside why they took so long to fix the elevators, they said something about waiting for a part. The management was very friendly and helpful when I was moving in, yet they were very UNfriendly and UNhelpful when I was moving out. The only reason I didn't give this complex a "poor" rating is its excellent location.

So far my experience living at Cityside has been enjoyable and I absolutely love my apartment. I was so anxious to move from another state to VA, but the leasing consultants Maria and Briejon eased my anxiety and assured me with a smile :) I was most impressed with the beautiful vinyl floors, open kitchens, breath taking rooftop and the awesome pool view from my apartment. I love how pet friendly they are and my dog Bali loves going on long walks throughout the community and playing with other dogs in the dog park. The management team is very friendly and approachable. I appreciate that they have late office hours in case you need anything after work such as service requests or to pick up packages. I have definitely seen a lot of positive improvements in the community under the leadership of both Lisa and Gabriella. I am excited to enjoy days at the pool this summer and many more years here at Cityside.

I am a current resident and this is a horrible place to live, my problem is with the mice since four months ago, and you can see mice are running everywhere in our unit. Many times I referred to the resident services for this problem, they sent pest control to fix it but they couldn’t. Since last two weeks I wanted to see the manager to talk about this problem but she refused to talk with me and day by day this problem is getting worse.
Property Manager at Cityside Huntington Metro, Responded To This Review
Thank you for bringing your pest concerns to our attention. We understand that it's quite disconcerting to see mice in your home, and we're dismayed to hear that you didn't receive the kind of support from our staff that you expected. We would like an opportunity to address your pest issue and discuss your interactions with our team, so we can elevate your living experience. Will you please connect with us at customerservice@thedonaldsongroup.com? We look forward to speaking with you.
DO NOT LIVE HERE! I am a current resident and honestly this is a horrible place to live. My problem isn't with the apartment itself, I actually really like the layout of my studio apartment unit. The issue is that the property is so utterly mismanaged that even a basic level of customer service seems impossible. The way they handle maintenance requests shows a complete lack of regard for the resident. I've had a leak in my apartment for two months now. A contractor finally came in to fix it and they complete tore up my bathroom, left it in a disgusting condition, and didn't even complete the work order. This is not the first time I've had an issue due to a maintenance request. The worst part is the management is completely unapologetic and clearly doesn't care about their residents. When I considered this place I ignored the awful reviews and gave this place the benefit of the doubt. It was a huge mistake! Seriously, they're are much better apartments near the Huntington Metro that you should choose.
Property Manager at Cityside Huntington Metro, Responded To This Review
We genuinely regret to hear that you've experienced lengthy delays with your maintenance requests. We understand your frustration, and we assure you that your satisfaction is our priority. My husband and I lived in these apartments for almost two years. The place is pricey but the services are good. As a matter of fact, everything is relatively okay until you are living there. The minute you inform them that you are moving out, the people in the leasing office show you their real face and prove themselves the most unhelpful and useless. Before moving out, I hired a cleaning person who cleaned the entire apartment in front of my eyes. I made sure I give back the apartment in the same condition as it was given to me (with exception of things like painting of course). They sent me a letter three weeks after we moved out to tell me that the apartment was not clean and not only are they not going to return our security deposit but also charged us an extra amount. Long story short, I have been disputing this since February 1 and I have no clue, no response from them till today, May 17. I have called them at least 10 times, and emailed several times - no response. The property manager, that kept changing so frequently due to staff turnover, kept telling me that the inspector who inspected my apartment after I left has left Donaldson group but she has pictures of the place to show me which has NOT happen till today. So, if you want to be treated HORRIBLY when you leave this place, go ahead and rent with them. I wish there was no star or zero star rating that I could give them.

This place is HORRIBLE!!! Let me see if I can calmly give you an account of my experience. I moved in at the beginning of February and it has been a regrettable experience at every turn. The building I’m in has two elevators but one has been out of order since before I moved in according to other residents (Although the leasing agent lied and said that repairman would be there next week to fix it during our walk-thru of the building - 3 months later still not working). The one small elevator for a 7 story building is constantly out of order. I was also assured that I would be able to control the temperature in my apartment. MORE LIES!! The air conditioning unit in my place hasn’t worked since I moved in. Since it was February and still cold I wasn’t treating it like an emergency however I have put in several maintenance requests to have it fixed beginning in February. The first couple of times the guy simply came in looked around at the unit and played with the thermostat and left without it being fixed. 2-3 requests later in March for them to finally tell me that it is broken and the whole unit needs to be replaced. The last situation where someone came out they said it was fixed and they an hour later our electricity went out. It took them three hours of debating whether or not it was the electric companies issue or theirs to finally arrive at the discovery that it was a property issue and the guy finally fixed our electricity but told me I had to leave the AC off. It is now mid-April and after them coming out the last time the maintenance guys said that the unit needed to be replaced all together. That was two weeks ago. I was assured by the leasing agent that a ticket had been put in for a contractor to put a new unit in and that it would be put in this week. He told me to call Tuesday about a definite time and date of replacement this week. It’s Tuesday and I called and the woman Julie (total incompetent) now informs me that it won’t be put in until next month with no further details. When explaining to her that I have been displaced to a friends place nearby due to it being unbearably hot in my apartment and inquiring if I could be compensated for my inconvenience Julie’s response was “oh no we can’t do that. You can get some fans and try leaving the doors and windows open.” (Already have done both) Seriously the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

If I could give it zero stars I would. This used to be a decent place to stay then Donaldson Group took over and it’s been downhill ever since. Both elevators in building 6036 are constantly down at the same time. Roaches. Hallways smell like hot trash. “Security” doors always broken. You have to pay to park but meanwhile people from adjacent properties park here without payment. They renovated the main building lobby and gym but the other buildings are run down and you can never get maintenance to respond!
The location is great, but management could use some adjustments. for instance I found out about the new property manager by a letter on my door with new policies and fees with six days before it went into effect. is an introduction too much to ask for?
First of all, they never get back to you on anything. Next, their idea of being "safe" is making sure that they tow you and your friends because you don;t register their car online. And forget about having more than one guest over at your apartment at one time. They only give you one guest pass. But nevermind that there are 200 parking spots at the end of the lot that are never used. This is just a money grab, and it is very sad. I would highly recommend staying away from this place, unless you want people taking your money and ruining your living experience.
This place is so horrible. I am so happy to be moving out. I moved here because of the location and the price. I now see what a mistake this was... It was turning around for a little while but then the Donaldson Group took over...RUN. AWFUL! Communication sucks. The try to change policies and cover it up with lame excuses. They do not do anything to help the customer or find solutions. The only building that is decent is the main one which is clearly a marketing technique. The laundry rooms never work. Kids are always running around everywhere unsupervised. There is always trash in the hallways. People are so lazy and disgusting they never put the trash in the chute but leave it outside in the hallway?! Your packages will be lost for days at a time. Your service requests will take forever to be complete. There is a rodent problem...it's gross. This place is literally a disaster.

Worst place I've ever lived at. They deserve ZERO stars. -it takes days to get your package, if they can't find it in 30 seconds they will tell you to come back tomorrow (they have 3 or 4 apartment buildings and all packages are stored together, no organization whatsoever) -staff is very unprofessional and very unhelpful. The manager YELLED at one of the customer service employees while I was in the office. -You have to call multiple times to get anything fixed. -i moved out early and was charge an early termination fee twice, and it's been over a month and I still haven't gotten my money back. (I willingly got a loan to pay $3000 to get out early) -there are two elevators in the building, one of them is down 80-90% of the time. -they charge you a monthly bill just to park there! PLEASE DO NOT MOVE THERE, YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Moved in November of 2014. Wasn't bad. Me and my wife were looking for cheap and close to DC and md. By the time we renewed the lease in 2015 there was an infestation of roaches. We can the rental every week for the exterminator but it didn't help. We are in the process of moving and I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone
I was looking for a decent priced 2 bedroom in the area and stumbled on Cityside. My boyfriend and I toured and felt comfortable committing to an apartment. Not specifically on this website, but on other sites we had read a lot of bad reviews but quite honestly our standards weren't super high because we're used to living in older non-renovated places in Old Town Alexandria. So we were sold and set to move. I had staged the move over a few days to make it easier. I went to check the apartment out the day and night before we were planning on moving our stuff in. The day was fine- the fan was super loud in the bathroom but I figured they could take a look at that. It was when we came in at night that we decided to cancel moving in. When we came by at night, there were 11 baby cockroaches in the sink, a giant house centipede and two other roaches roaming around the place. Look, I understand that this place isn't perfect. I did have a VERY difficult time getting in touch with ANYONE in the management office prior to moving in. I would try calling multiple times in one day but the only time I ever get any questions answered was when I physically went in in person. There were a lot of little things that I could deal with but when I saw all of the bugs that really ruined it for me. I immediately went home, read some of the reviews about the roach problems and people waking up with centipedes on their face and I decided that we NEEDED to move somewhere else. We canceled with them before moving our belongings in (and they were very professional, didn't ask any questions), we paid a fee but I thought it was worth it and we found a new place to live. I'm not saying every apartment here has a bug issue but just be cautious before moving in and fully committing. It is very difficult to eliminate the issue if everyone in the building isn't taking the correct preventative actions. Hope this helps.
If you are looking for a mid-rise apartment building that features great amenities at a reasonable price and close to everything, then Cityside is your new home. I read other reviews and had some concerns, but decided to take a tour anyway and see for myself. I realize that everyone will have a different experiences, and my experience has been nothing but positive since moving in. The management company owns 4 buildings on the property and features a swimming pool, a public patio with 2 bar-b-que grills, a small playground, a dog park and a rooftop workout facility with a great view. We received a newly renovated apartment with a view of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and National Harbor. The community is diverse and friendly. The property offers plenty of parking. Minutes away from I-95, Old Town Alexandria, and Huntington Metro is within walking distance. There are loads of restaurants and shopping opportunities in the area. My only issue has been with neighbors not throwing out their trash to the dumpster if their trash bags are too full for the trash shoot. The smell can be a bit much at times but, maintenance does a great job cleaning up.
When I first moved into a 1 bedroom 750 sq ft apartment here, there were a lot of issues. the heat didnt work, the carpet and counters had damage, and the overall condition of the apartment such as the gym and elevators was terrible. however since cityside was bought out and under new management I have been seeing improvements. The pool was renovated, they fixed our heating and ac. Overall I believe in a year or two this apartment will be a very solid choice, however as for now there is still work to be done.
I originally moved here to be closer to work in Arlington, but came to realize that I am conveniently located to major highways linking me to D.C, Maryland, and my family in Pennsylvania. I spend less time on the road for trips home to see my family which I appreciate. Being close to the metro is awesome as well as Reagan airport. I currently live in a studio apartment, but plan to move to a one bedroom in the same building in November. I will actually be paying LESS for my one bedroom than my studio. It pays to negotiate. :) The office personnel and maintenance staff are always friendly and helpful. Any issues that have come up are fixed promptly and without any worries of my cats escaping from my apartment. I love having access to the roof! They recently bought new patio furniture making it comfortable to relax outside with a beautiful view of The National Harbor. My one complaint is the laundry facility. Each floor has two washers and two dryers. The washers are fine, but one dryer works great while the other is worthless. I have used the laundry facilities on other floors, and that seems to be consistent; one dryer working better than the other. Overall, I enjoy living here. If the laundry facilities were better, I would give it five stars instead of four.
The rent is cheap (they lowered it even more than was listed online!), free parking, nice pool, semi spacious rooms, and solid location in terms of everything you need being close-by driving distance. Caveat is that the attention to detail is low; when moved in: chipped paint on the wall, broken closet door, etc. There are little nuances you wouldn't want to deal with but like I said, you get for what you pay for (rent is seriously much cheaper than anything else in the area). Oh and don't expect immediate help from the leasing office because they are seriously understaffed and high in demand. Saving the money is worth the headache for now, but who knows for how long...
I've lived in the area for over a year and was in search of an apartment as opposed to the town home I was previously residing in. Citywide is not what you would consider "luxury" but in comparison to the luxury apartments in the area, it's actually quite comparable in space but for much less money! The building management has been pretty helpful since my move in, any service requests that I've submitted have been responded to within 24 hours. My only complaint is that they have a lot of new members on their leasing team who do not know certain aspects of the building fees ( or simply forget to explain them until you see the charges). Also they are known for roach issues, but fortunately I've never had an issue in my building or apartment unit. In any case, they offer pest prevention spraying prior to your move in and also you can schedule it any upcoming Friday you'd like.
I have lived in the apartment complex for many years. The location is unbeatable due to its proximity to DC, the Beltway and the Route 1 corridor. The property is well maintained, the staff attentive and the rates are reasonable. The arbor is in abundance throughout the property which contributes to and elevates the quality of life for the residents. The air conditioning units are top notch and work effectively. SEMPER FORTIS!
I've lived at Cityside at Huntington for the past 6 months and I would not recommend it. The first apartment we had was a disaster. We were attacked by a legion of roaches! They were everywhere, the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom, EVERYWHERE!! They would swarm the walls, they were crawling all over the bed, the nightstands. The front office sent the exterminator fumigated for weeks but the roaches just kept on coming. The manager offered us another apartment. However, right before we were set to move, the said apartment was either accidently rented out to someone else or was "being renovating". After losing TWO apartments , they finally gave us a renovated, slightly bigger apartment. The first night we moved in, the washing machine flooded the apartment and the AC broke. I was promised some form of compensation but they would always forget the conversation ever took place. I would not recommend Cityside. This is only my second resides since I moved from Miami and its been a horrible experience
I just moved to my apartment in Alexandria and it's so far so good! I love having a nice clean space with a pool and a gym! It's within walking distance to the metro, and close to shopping. It's a perfect apartment for someone new to the area. Finally home!
Cityside Huntington Metro Apartments are located close to downtown DC, the National Harbor and the metro. The apartments are spacious with wonderful views. The leasing staff is informative and professional and willing to help with your needs as a tenant. The apartments have spacious closets and cabinet space. The grounds are well kept with pool and picnic area and tennis. One of the great things about my apartment is every year I can watch the Fourth Of July fireworks display at the National Harbor from my living room! Cityside also has a exercise room located on the tenth floor equipped with up to date equipment.I have made Cityside apartments my home for the last three years!
Cityside at Huntington Metro filled every requirement I needed when looking for an apartment. Apartments.com made it super easy to find a location that would leave my commute to work at the lowest while also still being able to enjoy the luxuries of living in Alexandria. It just so happens that this very location turned out to be the best option in terms of rent rate and was well within my budget as well! But wait, it gets better! When I went to go check out the apartment site I had a list of things I really wanted to make sure I have (parking (which is free!), dishwasher, laundry facilities, balcony, pool, metro accessible etc), which they did. But the kicker was that when I finally obtained a quote for the beautiful and spacious unit I wanted, they offered me a special limited time rent which was even lower than they listed online! I was too thrilled and immediately jumped on it. Overall, my apartment searching experience couldn't have gone any smoother and I am eternally grateful for that (well, grateful for as long as my lease term lasts :)
I moved into my new apartment last week, and so far I have really been enjoying it! My experience with the leasing staff during the application process and move-in has been positive. There are plenty of parking spaces and I'm able to park near a building door. I appreciate how quiet the building is and having a laundry room on each floor is a major plus. The other residents have been polite and friendly. I can see myself staying here past my current lease.
I moved here two months ago, and I love it. The location is fantastic. My commute to work is a breeze. I also commute to Pennsylvania to visit family, so being near major highways is great. Restaurants, shopping, and attractions are all nearby. From the roof, I can see the National Harbor complete with the Ferris wheel glittering at night. The staff from the leash office is friendly and know me by first name. Maintenance is always prompt if I ever have a problem. I look forward to coming home and relaxing in my beautiful apartment.
