Property Ratings at College Mall Apartments
Terrible management service, the place is dirty and unsafe. Thefts are common, and the administration doesn't care. Also, they're pocketing security deposits with overpriced fixes that nobody knows if they even do.
I really like its proximity to the College Mall shopping center. The bus stop is a 5-minute walk from our apartment. The rent is also cheap.
The apartment is an apartment, with all the joys and problems associated. What really matters though is the quality of the employees who work here. I had concerns with a person who isn't a resident coming to my hallway outside the door. What did they do? Put a code lock on. I had a cricket problem. What did they do? Sent an exterminator every single time I asked. AC unit wasn't working? Next day had a new one. Even if the unit isn't perfect (and they are kinda nice actually), the people make this place worth living in. Highly highly highly recommend.
Don't trust highly positive reviews. Normally, leasing office offers discount/concession for writing good reviews for the apartment. When you intend to move in, they will behave nicely but after that you will see the real picture. Even after all these, if you plan to move in, you should do the followings: 1. Take pictures of all walls, paintings. Even if there is any scratches, take a picture in your move in inspection, report to the office, and make note on move-in inspection report. Otherwise, the office will charge you while moving out for those unchecked scratches. It happened to me. 2. Check blinders very carefully, take pictures, and report. For any unchecked issues, you will be charged, mind it. Do not pretend to be easy going like me. 3. Check out carpets very carefully, especially if you are planning to move in to a renovated apartment. Check out all equipment very carefully, otherwise you are going to be responsible for any repairing costs. Last but not least, if you are planning to stay with a roommate, be very careful. My roommate made a hole on the wall that damaged paintings. When he moved out after one semester, I did not charge him for the damage. Later, I needed to pay. It's always not a good idea to be nice with bad/unknown/fake people.
These apartments were built with a strong architectural design. They have solid wood cabinetry and quality carpet, stainless steel double sinks, high quality appliances with a full power microwave, strong double windows (essentially burglar proof), and heavy stone on the outside (bullet proof, although it is a safe neighborhood). A single door, which is strong with deadbolt locks and strong frames. Fast Internet is available for $35 and it works flawlessly. Good amount of closet space. The grounds are maintained by an expert landscaper who plants glorious flowers every spring. There is a swimming pool. Laundry rooms in each building. The office staff are great people and easy to deal with. Rent can be paid online. Maintenance is fast and effective. I just had an air conditioner repaired yesterday. It was fixed within three hours of my calling the office. Required a compressor replacement, so it was a real repair job, but it was done before the heat of the day arrived. The contractor was very courteous and did an excellent job. These apartments are not new, but they are very strongly made and holding up well. With the exception of occasional Mall delivery trucks and garbage pickup trucks working at 5 AM, it is a very quiet neighborhood with a mix of young students, workers, and retirees. IHOP and CVS Pharmacy are next door, and BJ's Brewhouse is across the street, along with the entire Mall, fast food, and sit down restaurants. At the price and location, the best value in town. I have lived here several years and am very happy with these apartments.
When I recently moved to Bloomington I had limitations on what I could spend for an apartment. College Mall was highly recommended to me by a long time resident as a high quality yet affordable community. Three months after moving in, I am very pleased to be here. First, the value is real. I looked at several other communities at a similar price point, and they could not compete. Second, although College Mall has been here a while (I love the mid-century modern architecture), my apartment is modern and in great shape. The grounds are well cared for also. Third, management is very responsive to service and maintenance needs, with quick and effective resolutions. I highly recommend that you look at College Mall. I think you’ll be as happy as I am.
