Property Ratings at College Towers
this building is infested with roaches and mice, and you'll experience the occasional bats and birds. very disgusting. don't let the model unit fool you. the pool was never heated in the 2 years I've lived here and the cops are at this building at least 3 times a week. not a great environment at all . the building smells and many residents don't make it better by leaving full Trash bags in the halls. the water is always shutoff because of big clogs. and the elevators work when they want to. I've gotten stuck before . but it makes for great workouts always taking the stairs. it's cheap for a reason but if you don't mind this it's great!
I never had any problem with the office or anyone else here. People were friendly. I miss this place.
It's cheap and close to Kent State! My ground floor unit was warm in the winter, the AC worked well enough to make the living room comfortable but the bedroom remained warm sometimes. "Never a dull moment here at College Towers"- whether it was meth heads jumping from the 2nd story or domestic violence down the hall... look up the police records, they come here 100-150 times PER MONTH lol. With that said if you keep your head down and don't mind a building that is literally decaying before your eyes, it's worth it! The constant losing battle with the roaches in the kitchen were a big bummer, and the ceiling in the bathroom dripping/the ceiling chipping away, and the tub that looks like its 30 years old and has been painted (for some reason?!) and chips off were also a bummer. My neighbor who was on the other side of a boarded up door, I could often hear their conversation word for word, so if you have a neighbor that is loud or likes to call the police for noise complaints= possible bummer too. The building is essentially absolutely disgusting and smells of smoke in the halls. They only offer 12 month leases, they don't allow you to go to month to month after your lease is up.
Maintenance has only gotten worse over the years, not maintenance workers don’t show up for emergency calls unless they “feel like it” and it’s burdensome. The only covid precaution we have is an attempt of wearing a mask, office people no masks at all, and sanitizer in the broken elevators. Forget the hallway smell, fire alarm of the entire building goes off monthly and won’t stop because there is no air circulation. Parking lot.. icy to the point it doesn’t even melt if the entire world melts. They don’t do anything about it. Parking pass.. used to be free and management is getting worse and worse. False emails are sent, water is shut off without notice at times.. apparently emails are hard and printing paper and posting them everywhere is easier? I would hope this building just realizes it’s age and is rebuild. I can’t wait to leave. Also noise complaint is high.. they lie.
The property is riddled with potholes and falling apart. They refuse to salt during the winter so be prepared to slip and fall. "If they don't salt you cannot sue". You are basically guaranteed to have roaches. People also never pick up after their pets. So if you aren’t dodging potholes, you’re dodging dog turds. The entry doors are never secured, so any random stranger can come on in and roam the halls. The elevators NEVER work and when they do they always seem to have either throw up or dog poop in them. The other tenants are disgusting and never pick up after themselves.
I moved to college towers November 1st 2019 I admit I was kinda nervous after reading the reviews but it turned out to be a really amazing place. The units are spacious, pleasant neighbors and great staff. The complex is safe and secure, it's extremely close to a campus bus which is free to use and will connect me to local routes. It's close to stores, the library, hospital and entertainment.I haven't experienced any maintenance or pest issues of any kind. The staff is always extremely attentive and helpful, any questions or concerns are addressed in a very timely manner.I would definitely recommend if your looking for something budget friendly and near everything. It's also non driver friendly buses and bike shares are only a short walk away. If you'd rather have a place of your own instead of living on campus or having a roomate and seeking something that won't dent your wallet I'd suggest College towers. Don't get scared off by some of the reviews:) come by and check it out, you just might end up finding your new home. :D
Only pro's are that it's about a 10 min walk to the student center and super close to anything else you would need. Cons: cockroaches, foul smelling hallways, broken elevators, rude staff, no building security, and no heat all winter. It reached below 55 degrees most days in my apartment all throughout winter. Maintenance did nothing to fix it. Also, the area at night gets a little sketchy. After living a year at College Towers, I have seen the cops and paramedics at my building more than a handful of times. I have also had an intruder try to enter into my unit while I was home. Would not recommend this place..
Too many people in this building smoke weed. Frogs in the pool. Parking lot has serious damage. Elevators run poorly and sometimes will not work on specific floors. Hallways smell like bowling alleys. Place is cheap for a reason - when we first moved in there were huge/long cracks in the ceiling of living room and bedroom that they poorly spackled, tub was covered in spackling, many markings and tac holes in walls, and stains on the tiling of bathroom and kitchen. Cannot wait to move out.
My daughter rented here for the 2016-17 school year. Liked the location and the size of the one bedroom unit was great. That's the most positive thing. Elevator was broken, noise was bad (walls and floors are paper thin), and heat was either not working well or blasting even if she turned down thermostat. The worst thing was the cockroaches that they tried to make her pay to have exterminated, when they were present a week after she moved in. She continued to battle them and had to really go to extremes to keep them out. Others in the building told her they had them too. And so much for secure building, the doors to the outside were never locked. And when she tried using the workout room she had several occasions when some creepy guy was hanging out and even tried to follow her once. If you don't mind the roaches and noise this is a good place for the cost.
I've been living at college towers for over 2 years now and it has been an awful experience. The water is shut off for matainace at least 3 times a month, fire alarm is pulled at least 2 times a month and the management is rude. I could go on and on but my bathroom is dry rotted out. All the wood work. The entire apartment smells of mold and I put in a work order over a week ago and it still has not been fixed after management promised it would be. This place is a joke. BE WARE.
The only thing good about college towers is that it is very close to Kent campus and the pool in the facility. Its a good price for a reason you get what you pay for. Maintenance is lazy and staff is rude, been living here for a month and they fail to fix things that was wrong with the apartment, There is always a bug problem that they cant seem to fix to save their lives. I cant wait to move out. Please whatever you do save yourself from the inconvenience and spend the extra 50-100 to live somewhere else
This apartment should be considered by KSU students (particularly international students). The best feature is its location. KSU student center, most of the science buildings, tracks and fields, Office of global education, Ice arena, rec-center and many other relevant places are within 5 minutes walk. To get to the other parts of KSU very frequent bus service is available from bus stops located within 1 minute walk. Staff is OK and things are done if you have some patience. Elevators used to be broken very frequently in past but these days they seem to work fine. Rent is decent considering apartment's location and free heating (although not very efficient in all the units). Ample parking space, pool and gymnasium are also good points to consider.
