Residents of Outer Chapel Hill live in a forested residential area with tree-lined streets, spacious properties and Southern-style homes. Local churches sit on almost every corner and provide landmarks and inspiration for road names. A lot of residents have small farms on their property with horses, goats and cows roaming the fields. Some of the larger farms work to turn a profit, but locals enjoy the luxury of being gentlemen farmers who can enjoy the land and the animals as a hobby.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the sizable Carolina North Forest sit to the southeast, and I-40 runs parallel with the northern border of the neighborhood. This provides the Outer Chapel Hill area with a unique mixture of agrarian lifestyle and cultural richness.

Hey there - our pleasure! Happy you had a great experience.
Collins Crossing is affordable and perfect for students. There's accessible public transit, and its close to downtown Carrboro, several grocery stores, and bars and restaurants. The community here has been very welcoming and I've enjoyed getting to know our neighbors.

Dirty buildings, maintenance doesn’t show up, garbage is always piled up around the dumpsters, but priced like a clean nice place with actual pool facilities.

We understand the parking issue has been a problem. We are putting a plan in place for parking rules an policies. Thank you for your feedback.
A long-time close friend has a daughter who lived here for a year during college, and they said it was “surprisingly nice.” I do not know what may have changed in the past year or two, but the two weeks since I picked up the keys has been an abominable experience. I would not recommend Collins Crossing to anyone.

Please stop by our office so we can discuss what we can do to make your stay at Collins Crossing more accommodating. We look forward to meeting with you to discuss your concerns. Sincerely, Collins Crossing Team
I currently live in collins crossing, and they've been incredibly frustrating. We've had a broken dryer since december and they refuse to fix it. We've submitted 4 maintenance requests and they still haven't fixed it. Besides that, we have a messed up heater and they won't fix it. The tenants above us are incredibly loud and how low quality the floor is means we can hear everything they're doing. It's incredibly frustrating, the staff is very nice and welcoming but when it comes to actually fixing their customer's complaints, they seem to not care. I would advise just moving into another complex, as there are plenty in the area.
Property Manager at Collins Crossing, Responded To This Review
Hello! We are so sorry to hear about these maintenance issues within your apartment home here at Collins. We did discover that the dryer issue was related to an exterior issue, outside of your apartment home, and that has now been permanently fixed. This should have not taken so long to discover and repair, so my apologies on behalf of the entire staff here. The heat should also have been repaired by now. We think this has to do with a setting on the new nest thermostats, to which it reverts to an "eco" mode. Regardless, I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. This is not how we want our community or maintenance team to be represented here, so we will all make sure to do better moving forward, and have a quicker turn around time for our work orders. Thank you again!
Please don’t come here.I wouldn’t want anyone to be in my shoes.

10/10 do not recommend. I currently live in this apartment complex and I hate it. My roommate and I were naive when we signed the lease bc staff told us spaces were running out. That was a lie. 2 apartments beside me have been vacant for the past few months. 1) There is a terrible roach problem. My roommate and I clean daily and there were roaches when we first moved in. On the first day I moved in, I saw a roach. I also asked if pest control could seal up cracks in the cabinets and floora so roaches could stop coming in, but they just set up cheap traps that anyone can find at a store. 2) The rent is way too expensive for the quality of living. The gym is too small, the cabinets are falling apartment, and the walls are paper thin. I also had to mop the floors when I first moved in because the floor was covered in dirt. 3) don't fall for the positive reviews. Staff incentives people that leaves positive reviews. I saw a 5 star review from a personal friend that doesn't even live here. Please take my advice, live elsewhere, and do not make the mistake that I did. I cannot wait to move out.

If you could contact me back as soon as you can that would be wonderful: Collinscrossingam@laramarapts.com or give me a call at 919-929-2220 -Allie @ Collins Crossing.
First of all, they have their management staff write reviews on all platforms to increase their ratings (Dylan for instance). Second of all, their staff have TERRIBLE attitudes. They do not treat their residents with respect and love to speak over you if you have something to recommend them to do differently (especially Kelly-she will literally tear you apart because she has too much pride). I lived here before these new people started working there and the staff were pretty nice then (thanks Morgan, Katie and Maggie), but I can’t say the same now. When we moved in, the apartment was not cleaned. Walking on the carpet would literally stain your socks black, and there were dead roach carcasses at every corner. We asked for them to clean the apartment before we officially moved in, which they claimed they had done. They kept telling us they cleaned it but the same roach carcasses were at the same corners. Even after it was finally cleaned (took 2 weeks), the apartment was still filthy; the corners were filled with crust and there were grease residues in the cabinets, but we still moved in because we had to. First day we officially moved in, we found several live cockroaches in broad daylight. They have a roach infestation and they will not admit it; even though one of their staff told me that they have roach problems in basically every building and the people at the front desk aren’t allowed to say anything about it. We asked for pest control, which only comes every other Wednesday, and is useless. Roaches kept showing up, and my roommate was woken up by one crawling up her arm in the middle of the night. That’s when we felt like it was the last straw. We decided to move out and found a MUCH better apartment complex (where the staff members are actually nice and won’t talk to you as if you weren’t worth their time). We hired legal services to take care of termination, but it also took them a whole MONTH to get back to us about the situation at hand. We even paid rent for a month when we didn’t even reside at the apartment. Then they had the audacity to ask for the concession they offered us (due to us not being able to move in) to be paid back to them. We lost money and time, and went through countless hours of never ending worries. Please if there isn’t anything you took in, just remember to save your time and money and look elsewhere for a place that actually deserves your presence.

Our team works diligently to provide a comfortable environment for our residents and we invite you to stop by our office to discuss the steps we've taken as a community to ensure this. We want you to enjoy living at Collins Crossing. We hope to speak with you soon.
This is a great place to live in you need something temporary and like having headaches on a regular basis because of your living situation. Bring your own roommate because their “matching” program is bogus. The 5 yes or no questions got me two of the worst roommates I’ve ever had. But don’t worry. If you have an issue like that, all you have to do is threaten to move out and they’ll transfer you to another building. Maintenance staff is well-meaning but you can tell that no one else on staff has told them anything of actual importance. Lastly, office staff is kind and helpful, except for the office manager (or “landlord” as she calls herself) Kelly. Just be prepared for snarky, rude texts from her. I even told her how rude and unprofessional it was and suggested she call me rather than text me so there is no issues with her tone because I don’t want to have to give the same energy I’m getting. I turn in the keys today and Kelly decided to passive aggressively tell me that I was confused by her tone via text and that she didn’t have one. There is a way to speak to people you want money from. Texting in all capitals and telling me what to do (especially when I no longer live there) isn’t it. And if a tenant (which Kelly was so happy to make sure I knew my place in the hierarchy was below her) says you were rude and unprofessional, you don’t get to tell them you weren’t. Katie was a much better office manager.

Collins Crossing is one of the worst I have encountered around the area of Carrboro / Chapel Hill. I was matched with a confrontational, smoking roommate (I specified non-smoking), who used drugs in the apartment. We also lived across the hall from a couple who had the police called regular for domestic disputes. Collins crossing was made aware of the many issues I encountered while living there, and all they did to "fix" the situation was send my concerns to their "accommodations department." They refused to give me any contact info for the accommodations department, and it took weeks to hear back from them. I only heard back after threatening legal action against them. The amenities at this place are underwhelming - their "gym" has four machines and is extremely cramped, yet it is supposed to accommodate hundreds of residents. The complex is overall very sketchy with minimal outdoor lighting, eviction notices all over doors a few days after rent is due, and it is extremely over priced for what you receive. There are no light fixtures in the bedrooms or living room, and the appliances are not efficient whatsoever as my electric bill for a tiny 2 bedroom apartment ended up being $60 just for my half. If you live here you can expect to see cockroaches, stray cats, and dog poop all over the complex. The office staff will do their best to win you over and convince you to sign a lease, but once that lease is signed you can forget about the hospitality. All that this complex cares about is getting you on the hook for rent, and it shows through the behavior of their management. My recommendation is that you find one of the many townhomes or gorgeous houses in this area to rent from; avoid this place at all costs.

I moved in August of this year, and want to stay here while I'm in NC. I went to UNC and have lived in several different communities since I graduated, this one has the best set up and convenience for Carrboro. I drive a lot to see family/friends on a weekly basis, and even when I roll into the complex at odd early/late hours there's parking close to my building. The maintenance team has been awesome; they fixed our A/C in like 10 minutes, and we had some spiders making a web around our door that freaked me out and they came and sprayed immediately, plus put our apartment on for pest control, and I haven't seen any issues since. The office staff I think are super pleasant to chat with and always helpful. I see a lot of my neighbors at the gym and we wave and chat, plus our downstairs ones actually helped me and my roommate move a huge dresser up to the top floor. I enjoy living here, and can't picture myself living in another apartment unless I move out of the area.

We're pleased to know that your experience with us was a good one. Thank you for entrusting us with your home, and for taking a moment to recommend us to others. Your kind words are greatly appreciated, and we hope you won't hesitate to let us know is we can serve you in the future.
These people are the worst. Lived with them for two years and during that time witnessed first hand 3 shootings outside our apartment. Safety was not their concern though as they charged us for adding a chain lock to our door for protection at night. The ac unit in our apartment was producing black mold at an alarming rate and it took them a month to respond to the "ticket" they created in their system. They charged us for painting the entire apartment when we moved out but the paint was supposed to be discounted over the course of the time spent there and normal wear and tear accounted for! I even got paint from them at one point right before the move and did touch up paint on all our spots and they still charged us. Also charged us with completely replacing the carpet that was dingy and dirty when we moved in. For those that don't know carpet depreciates at a value of $250 dollars per year in apartments so if it costs $1200 to carpet an apartment and it was last carpeted in 2012 that would be $1200 - $1250 however they have held our deposit and not returned it. These people are the worst and will stick you with fees at the end!! Do not trust them!! I may be contacted at any point for further questions, I urge you to stay away!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I apologize it does not sound like it was a positive one. Thank you for the feedback, we will look into this further to ensure that moving forward all of our residents are taken care of, and work orders are resolved in a timely manner!
I've been living here for over two years, and as a UNC student sans car, I love the location! There is a bus right in front of the complex that runs every 15 minutes and another one across the street that runs every hour. In addition, it's only a short walk away from downtown Carrboro, so it very feasible to go places! As far as the apartment, I will put a disclaimer saying I think it really depends on the unit you get. I have enjoyed my unit and think I got a good deal, but I have had friends that have had roach problems that haven't gone away for months, and after a lot of THEIR (not the management's) hard work. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems. The apartments are very spacious, modern, and have everything you could possibly need (even a washer/dryer!). However, it is true that the appliances aren't the greatest quality. They'll get the job done, but they'll also break down every once in a while (and they were new when I started living here). Management is really good about fixing stuff in a timely manner, though. Since I moved in, they've continued the facilities' improvements, adding some flowers and decorations, as well as a bark park and pool (the latter were not completed during my first year here). Now, the bad. Sometimes you have to be on top of management when it comes to things like getting bonuses (i.e., they'll have a "promotion" for $100 if you recommend someone to live here or something, but you have to constantly remind them to give it to you and will NOT get it otherwise). Also, there will be an increase in rent EVERY YEAR. The first year it was only like $25, but the second renewal it was $60. They don't give any "discounts" to prior residents. Also, management personnel changes all the time. Don't be surprised to go in there one day and not recognize anybody. Overall, I've liked living here, but have had some issues when it comes to getting money back and/or some billing issues (bills come in late sometimes, so paying utilities on time can be hard). However, I'd recommend it!
