Billing itself as “One of Ohio’s Most Likeable Communities,” Mount Vernon is a small city located about fifty miles northeast of Columbus. Fairly secluded among the central Ohio farmlands, the community fosters a charming small-town atmosphere. The Downtown district is full of mom-and-pop storefront businesses as well as historic landmarks like the Woodward Opera House surrounding the Cooper Water Fountain in the Public Square.
The city is home to Mount Vernon Nazarene College and Kenyon College sits just east of town; collectively, the two institutions enroll around 4,000 students and employ hundreds of locals, heavily influencing the local culture. Every summer, the Knox County Fair sets up shop on the north side of town, drawing crowds from all across the region.

Property Ratings at Colonial Estates
There seems to missing information on this page. There are flats and townhouses. We have been living in a townhouse for a couple years and love it. Parking can be crazy at times and laundry areas could use some work. The place has really cleaned it up with the past few years. Got rid of the broken toys on playgound and took bushes out that made it hard to see. There is good amount of storage in apartments and kitchen has a nice eat-in area. Danette
My boyfriend and I are a young couple who moved to Mount Vernon from about an hour away for work. We live in the one bedroom apartment. Its a decent size for the two of us. Marian is amazing and knows us by name and not just apt number. My only complaint is that the kitchen is so small. in a sense of counter space and they only have one outlet for the counter tops. Other than that we really like it here.
This place has a great office manager who is attentive to any needs that you have. It is very affordable, yet spacious at the same time. It is dog friendly and it is conveniently located close to everything you need within a walking distance.
I have lived here since 1979 and presently have a 2 bedroom townhouse. Aside from cosmetic issues inside and outside, I find that living in a community-neighborhood style complex close to my job and to shopping is very enjoyable. Also having included utilities is a huge plus. With any corporate-run business, there will be issues but nothing is big enough to make me consider moving. Sometimes things take a very long time to be done, but all in all, it's better than a lot of places n Mount Vernon. And less expensive. No serious complaints.
As a family that has moved from NYC to Ohio we are beyond grateful for our home. We have been here for about 8 months. It is affordable and spacious which has been perfect for our growing family. I appreciate the friendliness of our neighbors and the manager. We are situated in walking distance to our hospital and stores that we frequent. This has been great for us since we don't have a car. There is central heating which warms well during the cold months. However, it can get very hot during the summer months without an AC. There are also stray cats towards the back building where we are which has caused the building to smell at times. It doesn't really bother me because it doesn't affect inside our apartment but it can be a little off putting for anyone who's walking into the building. However, it is an issue that isn't ignored and is being taken care of. If there seems to be any issue, the manager is always willing to talk, help out, and make sure everything is running and taken care of which is really appreciated. Overall, I am happy with the service at Colonial Estates. I can see our family living here for a long time.
I have moved here from past 7 months. It has been a good experience and there has been no issues
I would not not recommend this place for family because this place smells with smokes and you can't able to leave peacefully in your block.
I've only been here about a month but I can definitely say I'm glad we went with Colonial Estates! After I applied the manager was super nice, quick at getting back to me and quick at getting me in as soon as possible!! In a past review I seen someone say there is trash everywhere and not very well maintained, I'm not sure if there was a different manager when they were there but that's not the case as of now! I haven't seen any trash laying around the place is very well maintained just about a week ago they were trimming trees and pressure washing. There are also residents with dogs and their owners do a very good job at keeping their droppings picked up so no worries about stepping in anything! The rent is also super affordable compared to other places and all utilities are included which makes it 10x better, so no worries about forgetting a utility bill! And also I haven't had to deal with any rude or crazy loud people, everyone around me is super nice, welcoming and very quiet I forget I'm even in a complex at times. I'm so happy with our choice, I recommend to anyone looking for a cheap affordable bug free friendly environment!
I would not recommend this place to any one. although the office manager is a sweetheart, but no issues get resolved
The facility could definitely use some updates and cleaning. There is often trash all over the parking lot. Many other residents do not listen to the no smoking rule in the hallways. There were stray cats all over the property the first two months I lived there. The washer and dryers are always in repair. The overall cleanliness of the apartment buildings could use some improvement. However, it is very nice having all the utilities included in the rent. This is a huge help. Also being able to have a month to month lease is a bonus while we are in search of new jobs, unsure where that will be. It is a good location with all of the restaurants and stores on the same street.
I moved in two weeks ago and nothing has stood out as unsatisfactory. The rent is a fair price for what you get and people seem friendly enough. The washer/dryer situation could use some work and you need to provide your own AC unit.
My wife, 7-year-old daughter and I moved from California to Ohio and lived with my brother for a year because of poor credit until we found these apartments. With the help of the very nice and polite property manager we were able to move-in to a 2-bedroom townhouse. One of our favorite things about the apartments is that all utilities are included in the very low rent. When we lived in California we didn’t live in a rich part of the state but our rent for a 2-bedroom apartment about the same size was $1,000 a month no utilities included. Here at Colonial Estates we are just a short walk away from the Knox Community Hospital, McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and much more. And at least for me I have noticed that as a pay my rent Colonial Estates reports my payment to the credit bureaus as a paid revolving account in good standings, which is improving my credit rating. Friendly management, quiet community and no utility bills makes Colonial Estates a great place to live whether you have kids or not. I give these apartments my full recommendation.
