Historic Hanover Square, with its stunning architecture, brick-paved sidewalks, period lighting, and wide variety of locally-owned shops and restaurants, is the picture-perfect heart of the Village of Horseheads. But there's more to this village -- and the town that surrounds it -- than its quaint downtown shopping district -- Horseheads has a long history, dating back to an event that took place during the American Revolution.
In 1779, Major-General John Sullivan marched through the area on a 450-mile journey known as the Sullivan Expedition -- a Revolutionary War campaign against the Tories and the Iroquois Confederacy who supported them. Unfortunately, the long journey took a heavy toll on the horses, and many were put down. So many, in fact, that the Iroquois later collected the skulls and lined them up along the trail as a defiant warning. That stretch became known as the "Valley of Horses Heads," later shortened to Horseheads.

Property Ratings at Colonial Manor Apartments
I have lived here since they were built. Could not ask for a better place to call my home. All the staff are friendly and efficient. Any questions or problems they get right to it. I love my home at Colonial Manor!
Our new home here at Colonial Manor is spacious, classy, quiet and beautifully landscaped. These apartment homes have newly updated kitchens and bathrooms, thick cushioned berber carpeting throughout, showers that have a place to sit, walls that are thick and soundproof and windows that are large and allow plenty of light in. The best part is you never have the weather at your front door upon entering because you enter from within the building. The apartment homes are situated on rolling greenery that is near shopping centers, movie theaters, hair salons, veterinarians, restaurants, food markets and bus lines. Winter is no problem either, the staff comes out early to plow and clear the sidewalks and roads. At times, they will even blow the snow off of the cars. The staff is caring and compassionate and treat their residents with dignity and fairness. We love it hear!
These apartments are in a very convenient location, safe, clean, and the staff are friendly. I locked myself out a few times, and had to wake up maintenance to help me out, but they always answered my calls and came to let me in. It is a bit spendy for what I would expect of a small town, but because of the quality of the appliances, washer/dryer in unit, and the space even for a one bedroom, I can see why it's higher priced than other rental properties. I enjoyed my time here and was sorry to have to leave when my job transferred me to a different state.
We are just a few minutes away from shopping, dining and recreational areas. The staff is very friendly and quick to respond to requests.
These apartments are top notch. Close to everything but extremely quiet and peaceful. A unique private setting, generous living space. Brand new build, with luxuries galore. We love this property! The staff is always on-site and extremely helpful. They take pride in their property and it shows.
