In northern New York state off of Lake Ontario lies the city of Watertown. This affordable suburb is home to many substantial attractions such as the New York State Zoo at Historic Thompson Park. Spanning across 32 acres, the NYS Zoo houses a variety of native animals and is a great family-friendly location in Watertown. Downtown Watertown encompasses Public Square, the central plaza complete with a fountain, surrounded by restored buildings and diverse eateries.
Once you find your apartment in Watertown, be sure to visit Maggie’s on the River located in a former warehouse with incredible river views and crafty drinks. If you’re interested in learning more about Watertown, visit the Jefferson County Historical Society downtown for artifacts, books, and documents that reflect the county’s history.
Multiple parks exist in the area like Waterworks Park. The park offers open green space, a scenic hiking trail, and access to the Black River for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Everything is careless or haphazard, from the paint job to flooring. They replaced the carpet with vinyl flooring, but installed it incorrectly. It’s coming up where it meets the walls, especially the exposed brick wall. I’m on the second floor and the carpeted stairs weren’t installed correctly either, major tripping hazards as it’s only connected at the top and bottom of the stairs. Also smells weird, like either it was new carpet and not aired out, or some chemical was used to clean it poorly. They’ll also lie about maintenance being done when you’re out of the apartment. I have interior pet cameras and they’ll say they came out and did what was requested, but cameras show no one entering the apartment. Also, if you know anything about what you requested to be fixed then you’ll see it wasn’t even touched. The shared amenities are laughably horrid. Washers aren’t maintained or cleaned. And requesting it to be serviced doesn’t work, they just lie saying it was done but picture evidence proves the opposite. The “dog run” area is maybe 20 feet by 10 feet, and that’s being generous. Not enough room for even the tiniest chihuahua to get exercise. They obviously rely on high military turnover in order to get away with little to no maintenance. IF you must live here because of the reasonable price and location to FT Drum, try to get an apartment with a washer/dryer hookup and do your own simple maintenance. Otherwise, pay the extra money to live in a nicer complex. The only upside is that every neighbor I have encountered has been so wonderful and kind, look out for each other and their pets. Walls are pretty sound proof, unless someone is really screaming. But that’s because of the good people and not the management.
Alright, everything may seem good at Colonial Manor until the winter time and your car is hit by one of the communities snow plow that’s driven by one of the maintenance guys. That’s what happened to us as soon as we moved in back in January but there weren’t any witnesses, just plow tracks leading up to our damaged car and a dented number of the communities truck used for plowing. The community manager Danielle accused us staging the car in the parking lot. The police office that came out for the report said that the plow truck definitely hit it, they just didn’t admit to it and there wasn’t any paint transfer on either vehicle so we had to pay for the damages. On top of that, our ac froze over at the beginning of the summer when it started getting hot which the “fixed” but ended up coming back another two times within 2 weeks because it wasn’t. I tried telling them multiple times it needed more refrigerant but they didn’t believe me and they finally put more in and it started working. About a week ago our ac froze over again so we put in a maintenance request and they didn’t show up the day they were supposed to so I called again to set up a specific time the next day and they needed up showing up 2 hours late just to tell me they’re gonna have someone else come out another day to look at it because he’s not certified to work with acs. Now the ac guy said there’s a leak and they’re gonna need to replace it because the unit is from the 70s or 80s. Just got a call from Danielle(property manager) saying they’re not going to replace for over another month but they can offer one window unit for the whole place. Our electric bill has been through the roof because of the old unit leaking and us not knowing. And when we don’t have ac and it’s 82 outside, it’s usually about 85 inside which is very harsh on our dog. I definitely would NOT RECOMMEND renting at colonial manor or from any properties managed by Washington street properties
