Colonists first settled the area of Colonial Heights in 1620. The oldest surviving building in Colonial Heights is the Old Brick House, built around 1677. The area where the colonists settled, where the Swift Creek meets the Appomattox River, is now the Conjurer's Field Archaeological Site. The colonists named the settlement Conjurer's Field because a Native American healer (or conjurer) lived there and warded off evil spirits from the water. Today, the Old Brick House is open for tours. Colonial Heights is also home to Fort Clifton, a Confederate fort dating back to 1864, when it was used to defend Richmond. The fort contains three earthworks along the river. The fort is open for tours and is the site of the Fort Clifton Festival.

Property Ratings at Colonial Ridge
I have lived here for almost 5 years. When I moved in renovation’s were in place. Management was on top of things and the apartment wasn’t so bad. But once Covid hit management has changed twice. They are never open or answer the phone. The pool and other amenities have never been accessible to the residents. The gate has been broke for 1 1/2 years. They pick in choose when they want to pay contractors to come out. This includes landscaping, pest control & towing. My vehicle was towed twice with no notice. No1 but the new residents are in a real lease term! I have not renewed since 2020. There are snakes, lizards, flying roaches & birds that can get through the exterior into your unit. My fridge has been broke since 2021. My sealing has been leaking since 2021. My children suffer from ptsd because of all the fights, shootings and loud neighbors. Do not move here it’s not worth $1. I am soooooo happy to move!
Everything that is written describing the amenities here is untrue. We have had a swimming pool here for three years and cannot use it. The gym has never been opened. The clubhouse has never been put into use. We do not have 24/7 maintenance. No number to call in case of emergencies. It is useless to call the office. They are rude and most of the time do not answer the phone. I have complained about the kids knocking on my door and bedroom window all hours of the night and they say "if I don't like it, move!" I have had to call the police in the middle of the night because I can't get any sleep. If I could find another apartment I could afford, I would move ASAP!!!!
Being a resident for over 4 years and ready to move. The managers promises call backs and never does. Then you call back they don’t answer, screening calls. They have not updated my lease for 2 years and will not give me a copy for 2022. I’ve been by the office and saw a woman sitting at a table near the door and still did not get up to answer the door. They are always in “meetings” but I never known a place to have meetings 365. I believe that’s just their way of getting you off the phone. I’ve put in a request for replacement blinds and it’s been over a month, never heard back about the matter. This place gave us parking spaces and everybody parks there but the resident. Fights break out and the office knows about it, they still don’t correct the issues. It’s too many problems for this place to be mismanaged. Colonial Ridge Apts could definitely use a manager with experience.
Their maintenance don’t do anything, my freezer been broken for a week now. I had to go buy a deep freezer.I called property HR and they don’t even answer. The ladies in the office never answer the phone and keep the doors locked. Trash is everywhere in the parking lot but put notices on everyone door saying they are going to fine people $25 and of course trash is still everywhere. A lot of the parents don’t watch their kids and you’ll have to blow the horn for them to move. The kids be out to ten at night most nights. Some days the kids go around knocking on everyone door asking to do chores for money. Police only patrol in the morning and Sercurity just sits at night and don’t do anything. I can’t even break my lease here.

Towed my car while I was on vacation. Before I left they didn’t have parking passes, but I gave them my insurance, license and other car information. Claimed they put a notice on my door but did not. Very unprofessional rude front office and have a lack of communication and respect for their residents. Also smoke outside the front office and look at the residents rudely. Keep front door locked at all times, and never answer service calls or maintenance calls. Act like it’s an inconvenience to their life when you ask for a receipt for rent. Very lazy, unprofessional, and not a safe or enjoyable environment.
