About Colt Gateway
Colt Gateway is one of a kind. Our blue dome has been an iconic figure in Hartford for over 150 years. Originally the home to Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, this unique 17 acre property features 10 distinct buildings, all being restored to the National Park Service standards. Colt Gateway’s South Armory, North Armory and U-Shape apartments have all the key elements of industrial conversions to true loft-style apartments –- high ceilings, large airy open spaces, exposed building materials with oversized windows. These genuine loft-style apartments are beautifully appointed with modern touches while retaining the original charm, character and sense of history of Colt’s original armories. Colt Gateway is a mixed-use development offering both residential and commercial spaces. Located in our South Armory is a famous Brewery Tap Room and Cafe. Identified by its iconic blue dome, Colt Gateway is ideally situated due to its proximity to Colt Park, Front Street, the Connecticut Convention Center and Interstates 84 and 91. Walk across the street to the sprawling 106 acre Colt Park. Take a short walk a few blocks along Hartford’s new brick lined streetscapes to the shops and restaurants at the Front Street District. Come visit us and see why Life is Good Under the Dome! Additional fees may apply.*
Colt Gateway is an apartment community located in Hartford County and the 06106 ZIP Code. This area is served by the Hartford attendance zone.

Hartford enjoys a special place in American history as one of the most important industrial centers in New England for well over a century. Today, the insurance industry has taken over as the main pillar of Hartford’s business sector, but the city remains as vibrant and energetic as it ever was.
Many know Hartford as a college town, with the University of Hartford, Trinity College, and several UConn facilities operating in the city. Stimulate your brain by taking in a theater production, art gallery, or one of the newest exhibitions at the Connecticut Science Museum. Concerts at The Meadows and basketball games at Hartford XL Arena are always crowd-pleasers, and the local nightlife scene is brimming with bars, nightclubs, and live music venues.
The city is full of enormous public parks, including the lush grounds surrounding the state capitol building and Riverside Park on the banks of the Connecticut River.

Property Ratings at Colt Gateway
So much wasted potential. This should be an amazing place to live but it's not, especially if you have mobility issues. DO NOT MOVE HERE Positives: amazing view of downtown Hartford (great for New years and 4th of July fireworks) cool urban loft concept, mixed use site and preservation of historic building common areas are kept clean - cleaning and maintenance staff do a very good job in trying to maintain this large complex of buildings on site security patrols the parking lot on site restaurant - not really my taste as beer and bar food, but nice feature small gym on site garbage pickup and snow plowing contractors do a good job Negatives (everything that went wrong over the course of 1 year) no close handicap parking (management: "yeah, that was laid out years ago...and we aren't changing it"...just use the spot at the front entrance (which is on the other side of the building!) elevators frequently do not work for extended periods of time - 1 week to 1 month (really not good for someone with mobility issues) application process is long and involved (2 weeks to jump through all the hoops, even with excellent credit) not energy efficient - very expensive to keep heated/cooled $200-300/mo for 650 sq ft apartment ( mgmt did restrip/reseal all windows in south Armory this spring, so maybe it will improve) poor layout/design of the apartment. Narrow living space makes furniture placement difficult dim lighting throughout the apartment. Very cold and dark during the winter months electrical problem - power surges with kitchen appliances - microwave shorted out, and dishwasher needed to be replaced twice poorly installed and poor quality fixtures in bathroom and main room electrical outlets installed upside down, a problem when the bathroom only has one electrical outlet and only one appliance can be plugged in at a time. When brought to property mgmt attention as maintenance request, change was denied as "it's ok" Took five service requests to clean the high ceiling light fixtures and replace very scratched bedroom door COCKROACHES! no preventive pest management (management's take: "we can't help what tenants may bring into the building" Had to vacate my apartment 3 times with stressed out cat during pest control treatments which still didn't really solve the problem Entrances not clearly marked, poor signage, so difficult to direct visitors, delivery services, Uber, etc. to correct location in the large complex of buildings
I worked with Clarissa and she was amazing. She answered any and all questions, was patient, thorough and made the application process easy. I love my apartment. It truly feels like home. It is spacious and the windows are beyond gorgeous. The property is clean and the neighbors are friendly. I will definitely be here for years to come.
I’ve been at Colt Gateway since April, and I have to say, it’s been a great experience so far. The property is beautiful, and the staff goes above and beyond to help with any issues. Move in was a breeze, Clarissa was so helpful. The location is great, it’s safe, quiet and a quick walk to downtown Hartford. Perks include the brewery/cafe on the property and the parking included in the rent. No cons. I love this place
I had always been interested in the Colt Gateway apartments but timing did not line up until Clarissa stepped in. She helped me understand the application process start to finish and was incredibly patient and kind with me during every step of becoming a resident. The apartments themselves are beautiful but Clarissa was a hero in the process! I have never had a smoother move. I cannot say enough good things about her and the experience in the apartment so far!
I dealt with Clarissa when looking for an apartment here and she has been amazing. The move in was pretty seamless, except for the elevator closest to our room being down. Living space is very open with new appliances, high ceilings and big windows. Overall loving our first week here!
Moving into Colt Gateway has been an exceptional experience, thanks to Clarissa’s incredible assistance from the start of my apartment search through the move-in process. Her knowledge, kindness, and helpfulness were evident every step of the way. The space, views, and amenities here are simply outstanding. An added bonus is the Hooker Colt Brewery just a few steps away, with the friendliest and most welcoming staff. Thank you, Clarissa, for making the move seamless and stress-free.
First time renter moving in to this beautiful community. Process was exceptionally easy, and the staff there were incredibly accomodating and wonderful to work with. Clarissa the leasing manager specifically was very helpful and made everything so straightforward. Units are gorgeous, campus is clean and safe, responsive management, and great proximity to downtown Hartford.
Choosing Colt as my home has been one of my best choices in CT for living arrangements. The Colt staff are phenomenal with response times and resolving any inquiries, concerns, or maintenance related issues. It is very quiet and peaceful, you often can hear a pin drop! If you are near the train tracks/out-ter highway side of the building, you will hear the train pass by daily/nightly, a long with consistent traffic that can a bit loud. There is a little ways to the parking lot. Also, Handicap Parking spots are in the far lot, which is not convenient for residents who need to access it. It would be nice if Handicap Spots could be added in for residents closer to the entrances of all the Colt buildings. I would say that would be some of the only downsides to Colt. Big thank you to Clarissa for her customer service, patience, and kindness. She goes above and beyond to make sure you are helped a long the way to make sure that Colt is the right choice for you! And it certainly was.
Apartment layouts, ceiling heights and finishes are well done. The Maintenace Staff and Leasing Staff are customer focused and very professional. Unfortunately, the surrounding neighborhood is very unkempt and usually unsafe. If you don't mind walking in the parking lot, you will enjoy living at Colt Gateway. If you prefer a more walkable, safe cityscape, Hartford is definitely not the place to be.
I had the pleasure of working with Clarissa, the leasing office manager, and I must say that my experience was exceptional. Clarissa's professionalism and dedication made my move-in process incredibly easy and smooth. Her attentive assistance and commitment to customer satisfaction were truly impressive. From the start, Clarissa provided outstanding customer service. Her friendly demeanor put me at ease, and she expertly guided me through the leasing options that perfectly matched my needs. Clarissa's attention to detail was commendable, ensuring that I fully understood the leasing agreement and addressing all my questions and concerns. What stood out the most was Clarissa's efficiency and organization. She streamlined all the paperwork and procedures, keeping me informed every step of the way. Her genuine care and support were evident throughout the process, making me feel valued as a tenant. I must also mention that the apartment itself is absolutely amazing. The quality, design, and amenities exceeded my expectations. It's truly a remarkable place to call home.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Clarissa for her invaluable help in facilitating our move into our first apartment. Not only did she provide us with exceptional guidance and ensure a seamless process, but the apartment itself lived up to its advertised description. It is truly beautiful, impeccably clean, and wonderfully quiet. Clarissa’s assistance, combined with the apartment’s outstanding qualities, made our move a delightful experience. We highly recommend her services to anyone seeking a smooth transition and a remarkable living space.
This was my first time moving out and I was nervous and had a million questions. Clarissa, helped me with every question and she provided a sense of relief during one of the biggest transitions of my life. The property is clean, exactly as pictured. The building is quiet and the vibe of the community of residents is pleasant. I already recommended two friends who are also excited to live here!
Recent new move-in here and so far so good. The units are very nice/modern, the common areas and grounds are very clean and safe, and the parking is ample for both residents and guests. Clarissa was/is an absolute pleasure to deal with from the beginning, through move-in and now being a resident. She's awesome. Couldn't recommend Colt Gateway enough.
Before moving to the COLT neighborhood I was super suspicious as to why the complex looked so good online. As I’m sure we all do! I thought it was too good to be true, But in fact it was SO good I Needed to be apart of the community. I was in Awe! I was in search for many apartments in the area and nothing seemed as clean or as up-to-date as the COLT buildings! I was super impressed. The transition into moving here was seamless. Everything was communicated well and working with Clarissa made it super easy! The guidelines were clear, the contract was clear, everything about moving in was super clear and that’s how I knew I needed to be here! I’m currently in my 2nd year here and may be doing a few more as I’ve considered this a comfortable place to call home! Every week maintenance takes care of the hallways and the building and outside areas are always clean! They also take care of you as they are just a call away. The Leasing Office is right on campus and if you ever need anything, In my experience, they’ve taken anything I’ve ever inquired about seriously and made sure my experience here was first and foremost important. The surrounding neighbors and park are also pretty clean as well. I take walks just about every day and it’s perfect for walking your dog or hanging out with your family, having a drink by the brewery or heading to an event right around the corner. Literally the perfect location for any neighboring festivities. Honestly this ride has been super pleasant thus far and I highly recommend coming to COLT if you’re looking for something refreshing. It’s quiet, feels safe and the community events are pretty cool! Definitely a community worth being apart of.
I just want to start off by saying that everywhere that I went to see an apartment they either were small or they were dirty. I came to see an apartment at Colt and was very pleased to see how clean and spacious their apartments and buildings are kept. From my initial view of the property I was very pleased. I was glad to go in and was able to rent an apartment. I love it here!! I have lived in apartment buildings with elevators and I know about the issues when the elevators are not working but just keep in mind that the elevator is a working machine. It will breakdown just like your car will when its in constant use. We as residents need to understand that repairs might be out of peoples hands but in the time that I have lived here any issues with the elevator has been rectified within hours or a day. I was here when the cars got broken in to and I had spoken to the police officer that was there that day and he told me that we weren't the only property that got hit that day. There were multiple properties around our area that got hit too but these things are happening in every town. Enough said about what could of would of. I just love living here and in my opinion the staff is amazing. They care about you and how things affect you. The office staff and the maintenance staff are great genuine people. GO COLT!!!
Apartments are nice. But management is condescending and ineffective. Elevators are constantly breaking down. They don’t want to renew the service contract, so we’ve been without elevator service for over a week now. They also did nothing when over 20 cars were broken into in their parking lot.
Don't live there if you have trouble climbing stairs or have young children. The two elevators are constantly down without warning, one or the other or sometimes both at the same time. They also stay down during weekends. Good luck if you are scheduled to move. The management's attitude is one that nothing they can do, it's all depended on Kone, however the rent keeps going up without any significant improvement to the property.
Living at the Colt Gateway building offers upscale living, nestled in the downtown setting of Hartford CT. The city of Hartford is going through a major revitalization. In the next several years living in the downtown Hartford area will not come on the cheap. So I beseech you to get in now! And there’s the perfect place to settle. The Colt building! The burgeoning city serves as the scenic back drop for Colt Gateway. I’m serious not only is the view amazing but the Colt building is literally within walking distance of a beautiful riverfront park, which is surrounded by the Connecticut Science Center, convention center, movie theater and many dining options. Furthermore, for all of you carbon foot printers out there, getting to work is a breeze. No seriously, I see three of my neighbors walk to work every day. Enough about the city, let’s get back to what you really came here for, living at the Colt! Aesthetically you’ll be hard pressed to find another space of this caliber in Hartford, I dare you! This space is an open floor plan, and keeps many the industrial accents in play. If you’re lucky enough to nab a unit on the fifth floor, you’d find yourself living in a loft style apartment, beautiful. High ceilings, hardwood floors and large factory bravura windows enhance the décor of the colt apartments. If the sure beauty of the apartments isn’t enough, the amenities take being a part of the colt community to another level. For starters your building has a café, called colt café. Once your cravings are satisfied, indulge in some physical aspects of life. Get ready to say Namaste, yes there is a yoga room. Colt also has a game room, equipped with billiards, chess and other recreations. During the summer months you’d be hard press to not utilize the deck area. Hmmm a good bottle of wine and lite music will definitely set the mood. The surrounding area doesn’t provide you with much confidence about security, but the mobile patrol should ease your mind. There’s an on call security guard that patrols the premises from 4pm until 7am. Colt gateway is a very posh and affluent apartment community. The amenities, the flare, soirees and friendly staff make colt pop. I’m always eager to invite friends and family over to show off my abode. So if you are looking for a modern, chic and quiet living space, The Colt Gateway may just be the place for you. M.A Lawrence , Hartford CT
Everyone gets nervous their first time, right? I must say Colt Gateway is the one! From the country to the city, both Brian and Nathalee (property managers) have helped me make the seamless transition. Two months in, I can finally call Colt Gateway my new home. Friendly neighbors, gorgeous architecture, great location, and all that I could ask for and need. Each space is unique and you are encouraged to make it your own. Luxury views, and most importantly CLEAN!
Downtown Hartford living is awesome. Close to my work. Neighbors are awesome
I've been living in colt gateway for about two months now and love it. The building feels very upscale industrial and clean. It's also nice living in a place that's a landmark for the area, you feel like your apart of history. The building has all the amenities you need on each floor including a small cafe with good food downstairs. The only draw backs for me personally is the lack of covered parking, if your a motorcycle or nice car owner bring a cover! Also although the facility does have a gym it is rather small and limited in equipment so if your a moderate weight trainer keep your gym membership. Overall though these are relatively minor things. I've had a great experience here thus far and plan on staying for a while.
Luxury apartments right in the heart of Hartford. All the amenities one would expect and more!
I can honestly say I feel like I picked an amazing place for my first apartment. With me only being 18, and having no clue what steps I had to take to actually get approved and get into my lovely apartment they helped me along the way. The leasing office made the process quick and really easy. I love the features we have like a gym, a yoga room, a game room and the beautiful view of downtown Hartford. Not to mention everyone that lives here is so friendly and made me feel welcomed into the community. I'm so glad I picked colt gateway apartments :)
Beautiful, luxury apartments in the heart of Hartford with a stunning view and lots of natural light.
Excellent amenities- full gym, yoga room and rec room. Lovely cafe at entryway. New upscale restaurant being placed downstairs. Fantastic hospitality on part of the staff. And wonderful neighbors! Quiet, clean neighborhood but quick access to the hustle and bustle of downtown Hartford.
Colt Gateway is a charming, contemporary live-work community with a historic essence on the banks of Connecticut River in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. It has great residential lofts With architectural accents like wall-to-wall hardwood floors and beautiful oversized windows, you can enjoy great views of the city, Colt Park, or the Connecticut River. There aren’t many things cooler than a downtown address. Downtown living puts you in the heart of the action
Loft apt, view of the city, historic building. Nice amenities, friendly people, clean and new. Central air, up to date details, the larger the apt the better. Nice location, on site cafe, nearby walkway on CT river, also has river cruise boat. Many great things to do in the city, access to other towns and NYC/Boston.
Amazing building located in the perfect area - 2 minutes away from Hartford's entertainment district. Designated as a national park, the building itself is historical and it looks that way! Beautiful views and comfortable apartments. Very cozy and friendly place to live. Would definitely recommend if moving to Hartford!
Updated, efficient apartments with nice features located adjacent to downtown Hartford. Located in the Colt Building as part of a now-historic landmark site, complete with ruins! The site offers a mix of old and new I find charming, with friendly neighbors. Convenient parking, a small fitness center, a game room, and a helpful staff (no, really!) round out the experience. Only thing missing is the pool!!
Love the building, the management and my apartment. If you love the modern industrial feel for an apt, this is the building for you. The elevators are kinda slow and the gym could be bigger, but it has a yoga room and game room which I think are great amenities. I also love the coffee shop in the lobby! Overall love the building.
The South End of Hartford is has always been beautiful with its spectacular view of the Capitol and the beauty of the CT River. Throughout the years it has been waiting for a revival and now that the Colt Building has become a Historical Landmark, the South End is happening once again. Along with the great multicultural foods of Franklin Ave, the explosion on Front Street with food, live music a Convention Center, a Science Museum makes this a special place Yes, Samuel Colt's vision of community is now starting to come alive again. Living in Colt Gateway Building with the school for the Arts and the influx of new businesses, makes Hartford living a joy. Thank you Elizabeth and Sam Colt. Living in Hartford is fun again.
I love it here. The apartments are beautiful. All new hardwood floors, high ceilings and windows. One of the best parts, you can never hear your neighbors above or next to you. Also, gym laundry and a cafe right in the building. This place is prime.
The converted units are all unique and have amazing character. Everything is updated with great appliances and you don't hear the neighbors around you. I have enjoyed my time here so far with having a gym on site and a game room that is always clean. Also, parking included which is rare in Hartford. The maintenance is fast to fix things but on their off hours be prepared to wait for them to show up. IOver all I have great things to say about being here. It is a great place to call home.
Having no previous urban living experience, I must admit that I was skeptical with the change of environment. The historical grounds in which the building resides has been consistently improved for residents while meticulously preserving its authentic industrial era charm. Amentities include private off street parking, roving security, resident only building access, a laundry facility on each floor, gym, yoga room, rec room, and and a street level independent cafe managed by several building residents. The warm atmosphere has certainly left me content and often recommending to someone in search of the same.
I moved my life of 25 years in California across the country to Connecticut for a great job opportunity earlier this year. I knew it was crucial to find an apartment that I would be excited to come home to every day after work. I could not be any happier with my darling "studio with a den" in the old Hartford Colt Factory. With 24 hour parking lot surveillance, a cozy Colt Cafe, pet friendly neighbors, and overall good-feel environment, I see myself as a long-time happy resident here at Colt Gateway.
Colt is a great place to live. If you are looking for a place that's close to downtown and all the action, Colt is the place to be. Great amenities including a gym, game room and yoga room. Plus you have the cutest coffee shop downstairs so you don't have to go far to get a great cup of Joe.
The community is vibrant and active, everyone seems to contribute something original to the building. The maintenance guys are the best you could ask for, and repair requests are responded to immediately and efficiently. The cafe on the first floor has great food and is reasonably priced. The gym on the third floor is clean and equipped with the necessities. The game room is spacious and a great place to bring visitors. There is a security guard on staff in the parking lot (which was recently paved) all night looking over tenant vehicles. There's a laundry room on every floor, and I've never had a problem getting my laundry done due to overcrowding. My only regret is that I lived in Hartford for two years before moving into this building.
I recently moved into Colt Gateway located on Huyshope Avenue and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Moving from a house to an apartment I had many concerns. I viewed several apartments in Hartford before deciding and it was clear none compared to this building. The parking is amazing! You are always able to get a close spot at any time and there are no issues with visitor parking. Many other places in Hartford had no parking or parking issues. They also have a security guard that patrols the parking lot throughout the evening hours. I have late work hours myself and I have never come home and felt any concerns in the building or the area. The location is also great. The building is close to all major highways. Although,it's not completely in downtown it is only a few short minutes away. The building its self is very quiet, clean and well kept. Since it is mostly studios or one bedroom units it's more of a business professional crowd with busy schedules; which I think a lot of people are looking for when moving to the area. So far this has been a perfect place to live. I highly recommend Colt Gateway to anyone looking to move to Hartford!
I have recently moved into colt gateway and immediately felt welcome. The staff made my transition easy. The apartments are beautiful and the area is really beginning to look modern. The building has a cafe and is within walking distance of the downtown area. The residents are friendly and make you feel welcome in the colt family. I recommend Colt Gateway if you are looking fo a community of people that are genuine and a building that supplies everything you need from a gym to laundry facilities.
"Home Sweet Home" is how it feels every day living at Colt Gateway. Colt is the most beautiful apartment building in Hartford with so much history to offer. The building is a renovated factory which makes each unit unique from the next, with a great story behind them. While being in a quiet, suburban-like neighborhood, you are also seconds from downtown Hartford filled with incredible restaurants/bars, a brand new movie theatre, parks, and so much more. There is literally something to do every day! I could not be happier where I am, with the people I am with.
I moved into the apartment in June. The building is wonderful, everything is brand new and finished beautifully. There is a fitness center and a yoga room that are great added features. I would recommend this apartment to anyone.
By the far the easiest move I've ever made! Looked at different models (so much variety), chose the apartment, and signed lease. Happened fast because no other complex in Hartford offered me what Colt Gateway did! Got more bang for the buck. Apartment is gorgeous, quiet, and, at very convenient place. Deli , yoga, and gym downstairs; near highways, not too close or far from downtown. It's perfect!
The Colt Gateway building houses many young professionals. The area is well maintained and I've heard there will soon be a soccer stadium right down the road. There are two unfortunate parts: I can hear my neighbors clearly whenever they're home and if you're up in the loft you better watch your head, as it could come clean off due to the beams and pipes that run across. I've seen some other floor plans and there are much better layouts than the one I am currently in (so your head won't come off in the loft). The security is great and they're quick to fix any issues that may arise. The best part is to be able to make fun of the traffic on the interstate and being able to say, "Ha, I live in Hartford, and won't need to spend an hour in traffic like you fools!"
