Property Ratings at Columbus Plaza
Elevators take forever. Cockroach infestation Spiders outside windows DO NOT MOVE HERE
Management is horrible, elevators always out. They try to make life harder for tenants.
Been here for almost 3 years, and I can def say its a great building to stay, not the best, but remember every place has its own issues. The elevators are an issue at times, and so is the building renovations drilling noises, but thats just a few times in an year, mainly when you're at work. But apart from that, maintenance staff is very sweet - like Alen and Paul - always ready to help, and overall never had to wait longer than a few hours to a day to get things fixed(depending on the urgency). They do have fun holiday parties and stuff with good food and drink options. Building is maintained well, and is kept very clean. Package pickup is very easy and never ever had any issues with them sending back mails or anything. infact they very sweetly agree to send your return packages. Laundry is clean and much cheaper than so many buildings i've lived in.I would recommend this building, amazing neighborhood and a nice building to live in.
In addition to the front office being extremely rude and impersonal, the absolute worst part of this building is the inconsistent and painfully slow elevators. They’re always broken, always over crowded, take for ever to run, and the building has no service elevator so maintenance workers further add to the traffic, slowing things down for everyone. Before moving here I never thought elevators could make this big a difference in quality of life, but they can and they do, I would advise against anyone moving to this building for that reason.
I'm definitely impressed with the improvements recently made - staff is friendly, compassionate and very helpful! I highly recommend it to anyone who is loving to be in a comfortable, caring , and respectful environment!
This place has excellent maintenance crew and very poor management. They lure you in with teaser fees and then at first renewal your rent jumps by double digits making many people to leave. The building has very limited amenities (4 computers in their internet room for over 500 apartments). If you use the common areas more than occasionally, management tells you to stop and if, like me, you ignore their warning they refuse to renew your lease.

Dear Resident, thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback and are disappointed to read that your impression of us is not the best. Our team’s priority is to provide you and all residents with a wonderful community, so we’d like to take steps toward that. Please take a moment to stop by our office so we can discuss ways to make your stay at Columbus Plaza more enjoyable.
Columbus Plaza has excellent amenities starting with the best location in Chicago, access to the Pedway, 24 hour security, great gym with views of Chicago, new exercise equipment, and wonderful employees. I am really looking forward to the upgrades to the patio this spring. Its the place to be!!
Property Manager at Columbus Plaza, Responded To This Review
Thank you for giving Columbus Plaza a 5-star rating! We appreciate that you, a valued resident, recognize the efforts of our hard-working staff. We look forward to continuing to provide you with a beautiful community for years to come.?
Columbus Plaza is an old, dingy building with very expensive apartments and no utility is included in the rent. There is no pool or spa and just a tiny gym. There is a fire department right next to the building and IT IS LOUD!!! They have a package delivery room that will send your package back if you don't pick it within a few days. So you pay for return shipping and also for getting it shipped back. You can find a better apartment for the same price at the Marquee, 73 E lake, Shoreham, Aqua etc with better amenities and move-in deals. The day I moved into the building their elevator crashed with a free fall from the floor 48 - floor 16. Scared the hell out of me but the leasing office said they have the best elevators. You will run into people in the elevator who have clearly smoked weed because they are smelling of it and talking to you for no reason. Hallways and apartments will smell of cigarettes or weed and the management will do nothing about it. They will raise your rent by almost 20% every year. Once you are in the lease they will stop helping you with any requests. I moved out after a few months because even after multiple requests they failed to act on any requests. They charge you two months of rent if you want to move out. I had the worst experience with these people in all of Chicago. Please read all the low rated reviews before you make a decision to move here because they all bring up real issues with this building and its management.
Location can't be beat. Right on the river a block from Lake Michigan. Bus service is excellent, door to door for most of my shopping and dining. Just a block from Millennium and Grant parks and a few blocks walk along the lake to the museum campus. It's an older building than many in the neighborhood but beautifully maintained and with much larger rooms than the newer buildings. You get a lot more sq. footage for the money. Onsite management. Top notch maintenance. The staff are wonderfully helpful and genuinely nice people. Love it here.
You will definitely get the best value in this apartment building. The location is perfect. It's close to everything: Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Bars, Restaurants, Movie Theaters, Grocery Stores, and much more! The apartments are all updated, the staff is great, and maintenance guys really do a great job! They also have a gym which, is a plus, but river walk and lake shore are walking distance, for your summer time workouts. Overall, it's a great place to live.
I love my apartment. The location is fantastic, the residents, staff, and management are all incredibly nice, and there is no shortage of activities in the area. I couldn't be more pleased.
This building has been around awhile and has seen better days. Only 4 elevators for 48 floors and no freight elevator. Many new families with young children and students. It has a computer room with computers (or wi-fi for free) but they are not kept up to date and are frequently out of order. The maintenance staff are great as well as the security people.
Living downtown Chicago can be expensive and can be an overwhelming experience when choosing the right place to live. If you want somewhere quieter, within walking distance to shops, grocery stores and restaurants then Columbus Plaza is the place to live. The maintenance crew are fantastic, the staff are attentive and helpful and the building's facilities are perfect if you want functionality and practicality. While the gym is small it offers everything you need. I have never had to wIt for a washer or dryer and you can even have a furry friend! The apartments have some of the best views of the city and youare right by the river walk and Michigan Avenue. I love living here and wouldnt trade my older model apartment for one of the new high rises. CP are constantly improving and they offer newer modelled apartments at the best prices around.
The air coming from the vents of my apartment smells smoking, all the time. The hotel next door got a smoking area right below the area were the air for this entire building comes from. If you do not enjoy having your apartment full of smoking air, you might want to look for another place. Awful...
