Norwood is a fairly large town about 45 minutes southwest of Boston. The downtown area surrounding the intersection of Washington and Nahatan Streets is a true slice of vintage Americana, with the town common, the local theater, a grocery store, and several cafes and specialty shops all within walking distance of one another. The low crime rate and the abundance of large parks and playgrounds add to the small-town appeal, particularly for families. Multiple MBTA stations and an airport in town make it easy to travel across the region or across the country without a hassle.

Property Ratings at The Commons at Windsor Gardens
This complex is not that bad. I have found that staff and facilities are very kind, polite and quick to respond. I have had several upgrades done to my apartment while living here since 2021, and the fact that you can control your own heat/AC is pretty incredible when you hear about ppl living in Boston that don't have AC until mid June. Parking is easy, the landscaping is beautiful. Upstairs neighbors can be heard walking etc but you get used to it. You also cannot beat the location, very close to shopping plazas and a gas station.

Hello there, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! We’re glad to hear that you’ve had a positive experience with our staff and facilities. It’s great to know that the responsiveness of our team has made a difference for you. We’re also pleased that you’ve enjoyed the upgrades to your apartment since your move-in! Having control over your own heat and AC is definitely a big plus, especially during those warm months. It’s wonderful to hear that you find parking easy and appreciate the beautiful landscaping around the complex. We understand that noise from upstairs neighbors can be a part of apartment living, but we’re glad to hear it's not a major issue. Finally, we agree that our location is unbeatable, with convenient access to shopping and gas stations. If there’s anything else we can do to enhance your experience, please let us know! Warm Regards, Sidney - WeCare@udr.com
Horribly managed, incompetent staff, steep rent increases. Every single neighbor I have talked to has had bad experiences living here and only stay because they have no choice. Read all the negative reviews, and don’t make the mistake of renting here.

With property managed groups like these there’s an emphasis on their bottom line. As a shareholder it’s great but as a tenant or being part of their community, it really sucks. Places like these remove the human element and draw big from enforcing policies and systems that often place the tenant at a disadvantage. Such as parking, ending your contract fees, requesting your move out, cheaply made units, under staffed, mass emails. Serve you best to be attentive and precautions before renting UDR properties such as this one

when i moved into my unit there was a handful of damages that needed to be repaired off the bat... then one month into my lease we had a leak and they are telling us it will be a week until someone can get in to fix it. upon being given a lease you will also find out that you cannot hang anything from the walls because there is asbestos in the walls. yum. management just sucks in general. DO NOT LIVE HERE

the noise generated by people walking on the top floor can be extremely bothersome. The walls are quite thin and the floor is in poor condition, exacerbating the level of noise.
Property Manager at The Commons at Windsor Gardens, Responded To This Review
Hi, We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing noise concerns in your home. We understand that the wood flooring can cause more noise to transfer, so we do have a provision in our lease that states "To help alleviate noise/sound generated by Residents, including, but not limited to walking noise, from disturbing persons in apartments below/ adjacent to the Premises, Residents agree to keep at least 80% of the total sqft of hard flooring surfaces in the Premises covered with suitable rugs at all times during the term of the Lease.". Units can have more or less noise depending on the location. Noise is sometimes something that cannot be completely eliminated when it comes to apartment living. We will always encourage residents to reach out to the team during office hours or police after hours to report any excessive noise concerns. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your feedback! Kind Regards, Madison WeCare@udr.com
You don’t get to see your actual unit until you sign the lease and get your access. The photos that you see online are not of your specific unit. I was sadly disappointed when I walked into my unit and realized this. They don’t clean or swap out badly worn items or make sure everything is in working order between tenants. There is a BIG rodent problem and there isn’t much being done about it. Honestly probably not much can be done as these buildings are old, built in the 60’s. The floors are old, noisy and raggedy. So old in fact that should you need a tile replaced, it can’t be done because they no longer make these tiles and maintenance doesn’t have any extras. They charge for parking yet you aren’t guaranteed a parking spot anywhere near your unit. If you get home after 6pm, plan on walking a quarter mile to your door. Cars are often vandalized and management can’t do anything about it. There are no cameras in the parking lots and even if there were, I don’t suspect they could do anything. It has now come time to renew the lease and our rent was increased by $360!!! We have no idea how we are going to pay it but we aren’t in a position to move right now so we had no choice but to renew. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT move here! Not even if you’re desperate. You will regret it!
This complex is a nice, convenient commute into Boston. The townhome we rented was spacious, and seemed reasonably priced when we moved in. However, between the neighborhood noise (thin walls so neighbors can be easily heard, screaming children throughout the neighborhood), the old, outdated bathrooms in the townhome we rented, and the fact that we were charged high fees for needing to end our lease early, and charged additional surprise fees to reglaze the old bath tubs after we moved out, our experience overall was not positive. Would not recommend.
Worst experience I've ever had viewing an apartment. 1st day we arrived on site to a sign outside requiring you to check in via QR code (no one on site will help you the entire time). Since no one would talk to us we didn't get to see the unit style we were interested in. After talking with their off site rep, and scheduling another viewing, we returned to view the townhouse we really wanted to see the first time. Upon arrival of trip number 2 we were told the townhouse was just leased out and we couldn't view any. I work over nights and flipped my sleep schedule to see the unit, and my girlfriend took the morning off from work. This place does not care about prospective tenants, I can't even imagine how they treat their current tenants. I would give 0 stars if it were possible.

Hi, We're truly sorry for any trouble or confusion with your experience visiting our community. It's our goal to always provide our prospects with clear and accurate information, and we're disappointed to know we dropped the ball here. We will use your feedback as an opportunity to reflect and improve moving forward. Kind regards, Rachel - WeCare@udr.com
Lovely community, few places for the kids to play, Gym, Greenery is great, Pool is great in summer time (although you need to pay extra for that) and best of all the commute. I would give it 8/10 if it wasn’t for the poor UDR management. The buildings are old, very thin walls, with asbestos. Many times you can’t tell the difference if someone is walking in your own apartment or the upstairs apartment. You can hear everything, even the vibrator of the phone of your neighbor's phone. You need to be lucky to get a neighbor that will respect you and try to keep the noise down as much as possible or get the top level apartment. Old buildings mean rodents. Few people are lucky without this problem, but most people are unlucky. UDR doesn't do anything active for the problem, they do things passively. Once a week, a pest control person comes in and just lays down traps. It doesn't take a genius to understand that it would only be a matter of time till you get your next rodent visitor. We suffered for 14 month like this. Maintenance person came and put that blocking foam all around the dishwasher from the outside, ugly, messy on the floor near the dishwasher, instead of pulling the dishwasher forward and plugging behind it. A while later they had to remove the foam and when he pulled the dishwasher to the front, you can see thousands of Mouse droppings! I sent the horrific video of the mouse droppings to management, the result? I didn’t even get a comment on it. When I moved out, they deducted $380 for replacing 5 window shades. These shades are the cheapest you can find, basically 15 - 25 dollars max per shade, Walmart has them for 15. When I emailed back to complain about this, they didn’t even reply to my email and my check was sent to me with the amount they decided was fit. To keep a long story short, UDR successfully makes this community rating go down to 2/10 or at best 3/10. When it comes to maintenance, UDR doesn't care, they do the bare minimum. If you are the sort of person who complains nicely and expects them to be professional, you will suffer a lot like I did. If you are comfortable with shouting and constantly complaining, perhaps you will get better results.
This complex is beyond describing. I will try to do my best to condense it in this review. I have been living there for 2 and a half years. The complex was bought by UDR in August of 2019. Things started progressively getting worse since then. Maintenance team is extremely cheap and ineffective in their repairs. We've had a dishwasher that was melting wires and smoking for the whole time we were there and they kept fixing it and a month later it will start melting again. They had their regular maintenance team deal with the wires, not a licensed electrician. We are lucky it didn't burst into flames. This place is a disgrace. Dog poop everywhere, just really poor living conditions, there's mice and bed bugs in some of the units. The parking situation is beyond describing, there is never a parking spot available, simply because they don't have enough spots for all of the units. It's a mess trying to find a spot to park. Kids are always riding their bikes without looking out for cars, simply waiting for an accident to happen. Management ordered HVAC replacement and all residents were expected to vacate for 3 days for the work to be done and have their whole living room torn apart or stay in the unit and sign a waiver that you agree to breathe in asbestos and let it get all over your furniture. I bet there's a good amount of lawsuits coming their way about that. Please save yourself the time and money and keep looking.
Lived here for a year. Couldn’t take any longer. Constant construction and loud noise. Trash overflowing dumpsters always. Appliances repaired but you have to basically beg and wait weeks. Parking is a joke! they charge you to park yet the lot is always full with visitors. Tried to call and discuss you get passed around on the phone to finally get an answer..Of deal with it or move out... guess what I did.
Property Manager at The Commons at Windsor Gardens, Responded To This Review
Hello, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. The only way we improve is by listening to our residents. If the construction was going on at our building, I'm sorry for the noise. As far as construction outside of our community, we are not able to control that. The trash dumpsters are emptied on a schedule determined by the trash company. The amount of trash depends on how much trash residents are throwing away. We ask residents to please not pile up trash. I'm sorry for the length of time it took for our team to address your concerns. I'm not able to see your name to look into why it took a number of days to be resolved. Our community offers unassigned parking spaces as well as reserved. Reserved guarantees you will have the same spot every time. We encourage residents who would like to have an assigned space to opt-in for their own parking space. I'm not sure who told you to "just deal with it", but that is not what we expect from our team. I'm sorry you experienced that. We hope to have the opportunity to gain your trust back. Kind regards, Quay Neach 720-348-7620 WeCare@udr.com
Very old property....full of rats....maintenance very poor...not at all worth to rent here
Property Manager at The Commons at Windsor Gardens, Responded To This Review
Hello, We value your feedback. Our community offers pest control, please request treatment of your apartment through the resident App or by contacting the leasing office. As far as maintenance, I'm not able to see your name to look you up in our system. We would like additional information on our maintenance team so we can use your feedback to improve. Kind regards, Quay Neach 720-348-7620 WeCare@udr.com
Since I moved in there has been ongoing construction everywhere and contractors entering my apartment, parking in my parking space and leaving constructin garbage everywhere. Nails in the parking lot, they replaced the roof and it leaked epically for days, now they force me out to install a HVAC system and if I can't leave my apartment for 3 days, I have to sign a release for asbestos exposure, appropriate because the management company is cancer.
Come here if you are ready to live with lot of Rats, running everywhere in your home, rats poops to clean every morning and evening. Lot of houses in this community are having this problem, due to the very old buildings and maintenance people who don't care and close your complaints without resolving the issue.
There is no parking violation rule. Cars with no resident parking permit can be seen every nights in the resident parking area. No tow cars or random checking are there. Being a resident I had to park on overflow parking which is guest parking as well. After informing the issue to leasing department with the photo of rented cars, no resident sticker cars or cars parking in no parking/driveway, no use. Again same thing can be seen next day/night. I am facing this almost 3 years.
The power goes out once a week for no reason. There is not enough parking unless you want to pay for it. Everything is an up charge. Oh our first apartment flooded and we had to fight tooth and nail to get our destroyed belongings replaced. Also the apartment above us had their sewer line leak and that was directly above our closet, ruining our wedding things and causing black mold. Don’t rent here.
The units are priced very high for any one wanting to do a 12 month lease . It make me wonder if they have them high like this to keep people with section 8 vouchers out . I've been try to move here for over 7 years i have no voucher but i only want to rent for 12 months and the rate are crazy compared to other developm
The worst apartment I've ever lived in!! Do yourself a favor and keep looking!! They'll show you a beautiful model but you'd be lucky if the one they rent to you look even 1/3rd like that! Of course you won't be able to see it until your move in date, which by that time it'll be too late. Management is rude and inconsiderate of the tenants. The walls and floors are paper thin and you can hear every single sound coming from your inconsiderate neighbors. If you're looking at anything on the 1st or garden level, don't do it!! I live on the first floor and have complained to management about the guy upstairs pacing very loudly from 11pm-3am. They haven't even bothered to respond! The cabinets and appliances are old, rusty and cheap. There's nothing luxurious about this place!! Will definitely not be renewing my lease when it's up and that day can't come soon enough!!
Since we moved to the town-house we had mice problem, and it has not been solved. I am paying too much for two bed room and I feel like I am living in one bed room because I can't stay down stair as I have seen a lot of mice downstair (in the kitchen, living room), and upstair (in the kids room). In addition, very unprofessional management.
Horrible living situation. Walls are paper thin and everyone is extremely loud and inconsiderate of others living around them. There are over 5 people in a 1 bedroom apartment. There are playgrounds onsite but residents insist on having screaming children running around the property. I cannot keep my balcony door open most of the time. Worst experience in an apartment. Management office is of zero help.
We moved here from nc and had to get everything set up thru email and phone. The folks in the office were a big help and make us feel very welcomed.
I was sorry I signed a lease one month after I moved in. The rules go unenforced and if you complain nothing is done. I have horrible neighbors who are so noisy. The walls are so thin you can hear conversations that neighbors are having. I am moving in 5 days and it can't be soon enough. They will show you a beautiful model when you come to see the place but you get an apartment that looks nothing like it.
