Property Ratings at Compass at City Center
DO. NOT. MOVE. HERE!!! This is the most disgusting, unsanitary & just flat out filthy place that I have ever lived. We have seen every type of cockroach that you can imagine both inside and outside. In every room. Literally. The management team here will tell you that they are “palmetto” bugs or “water bugs”, (don’t be fooled, this is a cockroach…you can easily google it) but I am not talking about those very large black cockroaches or “water bugs”. While those are literally crawling outside everywhere & often make it inside as well - I am specifically talking about actual brown house roaches. It is so extreme, that I had to tape a net to the ceiling exhaust fans in both bathrooms, close the shower drains when not in use, and put duck tape over every single crack and hole in this apartment that I could find….and they STILL COME IN. Just last night I walked into the bathroom and found a large brown & red cockroach on my 1yr old sons toothbrush. Nothing feels sanitary here at this point. I literally want to throw everything away when we leave. There are reviews going back a DECADE about roaches, and all the management team will reply with is that “they do a weekly pest control spraying”. Additionally, when we moved in - our apartment had a terrible smell of cigarettes, and there was literally visible TRASH in the kitchen, dirt and junk all over the floors…and this was a “renovated unit”. As others have said, they slapped on some lipstick at best. The pictures here are VERY deceiving. They sent a cleaner over as we were moving in, but it’s still just filthy. Mind you, I have lived in several third world countries, and as a former Marine have been all around the country & experienced a LOT…but nothing quite like this. There is a laundry list of issues with the apartment, things broken, dirt & grime, and the cockroaches…but I won’t even bother going into more detail about that. ***Here’s what you really need to know: If you are Active Duty Military, STAY AWAY!!!*** We received PCS orders to move across the country recently, and were informed that we will have to pay the following month’s rent in FULL…even though we will be long gone well before October 1st. This puts us in a financial hardship situation, as we are now paying for an apartment that we don’t live in, in addition to housing costs at our new location. Just ridiculous. I deeply regret choosing to live here, and honestly thank GOD that we are leaving soon.
On top of rent, you will be charged for freakishly high monthly water bills ($60/mo for a one bedroom!), weekly trash service ($25/mo), and liability insurance ($15/mo)? The location is great but the apartments and amenities are NOT worth the price.
There are roaches in the walls, in the appliances, in the plumbing and in the ceiling. Management is told us they would schedule a "special" pest control appointment for our apartment but we never heard back from them. Unless you like bugs, don't live here.
If could give these folks a 0 I would. The biggest concern I have is the SQUIRRELS in our walls. We put in work orders, called, and emailed several times. We were at one point told nothing could be done because it "was mating season" Another time we were told the issue had already been addressed. They never came to fix anything. I have pictures that how where they tore up our balcony and the insulation. There is hole in the roof where the tore up the roof to get inside. There is a urine stain by one of the vents in the bedroom. We would wake up hearing them scratching the walls in the bedroom and the ceiling in the kitchen. This went on for at least two winters. We have email communications to prove this. Further, we had big cockroaches outside and inside all the time. It took the whole building to complain about the cockroaches/water bugs outside and inside the building before they did anything. When they did do something about the cockroaches, they put a note on the door on a Friday evening to say we had until that Monday to remove our belongings from the cabinets and pets from the apartment. They did the same thing the next Friday evening. Communication was shoddy at best. When we moved out, we were told that we had to get the carpets cleaned and we could use any company we wanted, but they would assess damages and send a bill for cleaning. They ended up replacing the carpet and charging us over $200. I suspect this is a thing they do all the time. We requested to be there during the inspection. We never got a call regarding this. We were just sent a bill for over $400 dollars with different fees for electric, water, etc. We just paid it because we are just FED UP and tired with the whole situation. I'm sure this whole review will go unnoticed. But maybe someone will see it and think twice about renting here. I just hope they get the squirrel situation fixed at our apartment because I swear it sounded like some nights they were going to come through the walls.
Enjoy the spacious size of the 3 bedroom apartment with a large patio, Enjoy the once a month parties by the office staff engaging with the community. Office staff is always courteous and engaging as well as the maintenance staff. The grounds are always maintained in which I greatly appreciate .Nice community to reside and relax to call home., Love having dog park and play ground for our children to enjoy. Seeing many upgrades and changes on our buildings is a welcome sight for our community! I would absolutely recommend this place.
We are a military family and we have lived here 3 yrs and counting at Waypoint. My husband is stationed at Norfolk and I refuse to move because I like living here and the staff is great, from the office to the maintenance. The apartments are spacious and walk in closets. We are located to everything , and being new to the state made it so much easier for me and my family to navigate around. So yes 100% I would recommend ,for Way Point at City Center to be your new home.
We rented a one bedroom apartment for two and half years. We truly enjoyed living here. We didn't hear our neighbors that we shared walls with, the layout was nice, utilities were reasonable, and there's plenty of storage. The front office staff were great, and maintenance was always timely and friendly. It's a good location without being right on top of that mess at the intersection of Jefferson and Oyster Point. We didn't renew our lease only because we were expecting a baby and wanted something more appropriate for our growing family. I would absolutely recommend this place.
These apartments are in a great location being directly across the street from City Center, which has a lot of things to do (bars, restaurants, movies, gym, etc..). The staff working out is here is great, especially Travis, and always makes sure that you have what you need. All maintenance requests are handled very timely. For the most part, everyone living here is professional and there is not a lot of partying going on in the apartments, at least in my building. The apartments probably have some is the biggest bedrooms in the area and the price is great too. It's pet friendly, there is a dog park at the front of the neighborhood right next to the kids play area. The only issue that I have is extending the office hours. They close at 5:30 which makes it difficult, getting off at 5, to get to the office if you need something. Other than that, I would recommend these apartments to anyone.
I have lived at Waypoint at City Center for 2 years and I love almost everything about my apartment. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and the bedrooms are almost the same size and across the apartment from each other, which is great for roommates. I have the master, and it has a bathroom attached and walk in closet. We also have 3 (3!!) shared closets in the apartment. A good sized hall closet, a linen closet, and a good sized storage area off the balcony. It isn't noisy, maintenance on the grounds is always kept up. The only down sides is the kitchen is kind of small and ugly and they raised our rent $80 after our first year was up. I would definitely recommend living here.
I lived at a previous apartment complex for 13 years, so I was skeptical about moving into a new place. I checked alot of apartment reviews before moving into waypoint. Some reviews about these aparments were not so good and some were. I decided to go with the good reviews. I'm very happy I did because by far, this has been best place I lived. I have been here for 3 years now and plan to renew my lease for a 4th. I couldn't be happier. The grounds are very well kept. The office and maintanence staff are great. Its very spacious and quiet. I'm very close to the highway and all of shopping centers. I wish there was an option to buy an apartment unit because I would. I really enjoy living here.
I've lived here for 9 months and haven't run into any problems. It is right across the street from city center and the bars there and is also much cheaper than the apartments in city center. Just around the corner from CNU as well.
