Michigan City is a fairly small city overlooking Lake Michigan, positioned about fifty miles east of Chicago and forty miles west of South Bend. Historically one of Indiana’s most vibrant communities, Michigan City maintains a thriving local culture with museums, breweries, a casino, and numerous popular performance venues providing endless options for your downtime.
The waterfront location gives the city a beautiful scenic quality, and both the lake itself and the nearby Indiana Dunes are popular recreation venues for locals and visitors alike. The South Shore Line offers affordable rail service to both Chicago and South Bend, allowing you to travel to two of the Midwest’s most distinctive cities without having to drive.

Property Ratings at Coolspring Estates Apartments
I just moved here and I love it , very quiet and very nice apartments. The ladies in the office went above and beyond to help me through the process of moving here. They are so nice and amazing . Oshe ,Tina and April thank you so much for everything you did for me . If I can give them 100 stars I would .
Love Mark! Gret management team now that he is back. The secretary is always friendly. I love how appreciated I feel here and welcome. Very attentive and thorough. Love this team.
Quiet and pleasant environment. Prompt maintenance service.
I've been a long time resident of Coolspring Estates, I have moved out and back in a couple of times. Mark and his staff are professional and easy to deal with. It's also in a great part of town.
I’ve been a resident here for over 20 years and still love the fact that the community is quiet and respectful of one another. The spaciousness of the apartments are great and I enjoy my view from the balcony. The staff are incredible and have always met my needs immediately upon request. They provide great teamwork! I love that they come and vacuum the hallways clean in the laundry rooms weekly. I would like the snow & ice removal to be done more often to help prevent falls as many of us are older residents. For me, this has been an ideal community to live in and is close to every thing you need. All I would ask is that they stop increasing the rent each year for residents who have been loyal tenants for many years. Great place to live though! B. Jackson
The fantastically cozy and spacious floor plan, abundance of trees and native wildlife, friendly and diligent management, and proximity to the Indiana Dunes National & State Parks, Michigan City beaches, and local antique shops/restaurants have kept me a happy tenant for over two years now. I’ve nothing but good things to say about Coolspring Estates.
If you want to slum it for a couple years it's fine, but don't get your hopes up if you want a nice place to live.. The apartment was NOT cleaned upon arrival, you have to bug the staff just to clean the place before moving in (which will take a week or two.) ---WARNINGS--- 1. DO NOT SIGN THE LEASE BEFORE SEEING YOUR APARTMENT PHYSICALLY The apartment that they do your "tour" for will ABSOLUTELY NOT be the one you receive. We toured the model in a different building and thought they were nice, only to receive a DISGUSTING smelling unit (wet dog mixed with mildew smell.. which was unbearable.) The floors were a MESS, they did not even vacuum, let alone steam clean. There was filth in every crevice of the kitchen and bathroom (it took 3 days to get this place in livable condition.) Other than this, after reconciling all of these issues, the stay has been fine. They are old apartments, and the community is slightly loud, but it is a safe place where we had no issues other than move in. 2. THEY WILL NOT WARN YOU IF THEY WILL/HAVE ENTERED YOUR APARTMENT There is no warning when they will enter your apartment. If you ask for maintenance and you are not home, they will just waltz in without any indication of them having been there (no note or anything.) We realized one day that we had a new A/C, and we were not home when this happened. 3. THERE IS LITTLE TO NO UPKEEP ON THE GROUNDS They mow the lawn only once every three or so weeks, and it looks very shaggy at times. They take FOREVER to plow the parking lot and salt the sidewalks, which can be dangerous if you work early. The place is an ice rink in winter. A light that is not in a unit (as in, in the hallway or outside) could be dead for a month before maintenance repairs it. The same goes for fire alarms beeping that the batteries are low.
I have lived in many places in my life, ranging from good to bad. I have been in places that were perfect but had bad management and in places that were horrid with great management, but I never had both. I have been living at Coolspring Estates for almost two years now and I will tell you that I finally got the perfect combination. The apartment is awesome, the management is both kind and super helpful, and the environment is incredible. I am very happy to finally be in a home that I can feel safe in. I have a small family that needs to be in a place that is safe and secure while I am at work. I couldn't be any more happy with Coolspring Estates. I thank the management and everyone that keeps this property safe, clean, quiet, and peaceful. I am happy for the opportunity to be a member of a community that keeps an eye out for each other and makes sure that the evil elements stay away. Thank you for taking care of your tenants. I will be sure to recommend this property every chance I get. Well done!
Was pleasantly surprised to see the size of these places. Stopped to visit a friend from high school and was not expecting her apartment to be the size of my house. Could use some touchup here and there, but for the price, these are really nice places.
i moved in about a month ago, they asked me to give a revuw after one month here when i signed my lease. this is a nice apartment. i like it here. my brother lives with me, he likes it to. only thing i don't like is the maintaince guy. he is to slow and just comes to look at problem and leaves. he did come back and fix it a couple days later. he was nice. nice apartments. nice people in office to.
I am a young professional and looking for my 1st apartment. I talked to Ms Barber today, told her I was nervous and didn't know what I was doing. She was polite to me, and didn't treat me as if I were a dumb kid. I live in Chicago and do not have a car at this time. She instantly offered to email me the link to the online application .I plan on completing it after I am off of work. I'm writing this review because this is the only apartment complex I called that treated me with respect. If that is important to you, please do consider calling Ms Barber.
I left a compliment on the contact form, but just found this review section, so I'm going to leave one here as well. We can't get enough good compliments, right? I have lived here for a little over a year or so now, and really do still love our apartment. It is roomy, comfortable, and the community is very nice. All of this is great, but without a staff that treats you nicely, it doesn't mean a lot. Katherine is very well liked and respected here. I don't think I've ever seen her or the office girl (Jenalee?) without a smile on their faces. I've been in that office when it was mad crazy with people all over, and Katherine is calm as can be. I've seen her handle some really rude visitors without any problems. She keeps things in order but lets you live. That is very important to me. I've seen her work with neighbors to solve their problems quite a few times. I've also seen her have to get stern with a few residents, too. She does it with respect, and that is all any of us want, really. This is why you see a lot of people grabbing applications, and why I want to say thank you to them for all they do for us residents every day. They probably don't hear "thank you" enough, so here's one from me.
I just left Coolspring's offices and felt I had to write a review. First time I've ever done this. I have problems with stairs, use a cane to get around. I had an appointment to see an apartment and was greeted by a very pleasant young woman named Catherine. She met me at the entrance and walked with me down the stairs. The office is very nice. Catherine made me a cup of coffee, and then we walked through two apartments, and went back to the office. I was surprised by how big the apartments are. The laundry rooms on every floor was nice, too. I really do think these are one of the nicest, and biggest apartments in the area. I have visited a few others, but I was not treated as nicely as I was here. Jennalee was the person I spoke with earlier, and she was very sweet and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone.
I previously lived in Coolspring Estates and I had a fantastic living experience! The staff was friendly and the apartment I had was spacious. Looking to move again and will be contacting them first! Great place to call home! -Mel
Definitely the biggest apartments I've seen, for the money. Staff made me feel welcome and important.
We visited this apartment community. We toured the office model. Unfortunately we were not able to move into this community due a timing problem. We also toured an apartment in Edgewood Apartments which is owned by the same corporation. We rented an apartment in Edgewood and are preparing to move.
