Known as San Diego’s second downtown, University City is one of San Diego’s best places to live. Named for housing the University of California East Campus, University City is also known for being home to multiple medical facilities and technology companies. University City also has excellent public schools. Westfield UTC, a sprawling upscale mall in the center of the neighborhood, provides residents with upscale retailers, trendy restaurants, a year-round skating rink, and more. Renting in University City places you minutes away from the amazing outdoor opportunities SoCal is known for. Go hiking at the Rose Canyon Open Space Park or travel miles a few miles west and spend some time in the water at the La Jolla Cove. For even more shopping, dining, and entertainment options, Downtown San Diego is about 20 minutes south. Rentals in this charming, laid-back locale are mid-range to upscale and include everything from Mediterranean-style single-family homes to luxury student housing.

Property Ratings at Costa Verde Village
I have lived here for nearly 6 years and can confidently say this is the worst place to live. The leasing office is horrible. Don’t bother calling them if you are locked out of your apartment because they will not help you. They will, however, offer to give you the number for a locksmith you can call yourself. There is no security so be prepared to have your car broken into numerous times. If you live on the ground floor be prepared to have sinks & bathtubs back up regularly with dirty water from the above apartments. Also know that if your have a crazed homeless man screaming & kicking at your door late at night security will not come. They are too afraid and you will have to call the police. Why do I stay? Because it’s the cheapest apartment I have found for the location. And the free gym and laundry in every apartment is great.

I have lived here for almost 2 years now and without exaggeration, they seem to have some loud noise going every other day. For the longest time, the apartment had various construction work going on throughout the day. I thought it would be okay after that but nope! there is loud machine noises like 2-3 days a week at least - whether its from water pumps, leaf blowers or tile cleaners. Even as I am writing this, there is an incredibly loud noise going on and I'm not sure what it is from - but even with my XM4 noise-cancelling headphones it still feels really loud. For most high-rise buildings I don't think this would be an issue, but the design of the building is an open square so any noise in the middle/surrounding gets amplified throughout all rooms facing inwards and any room facing outwards has the road noises all day. I really don't understand why they need so much machine work all the time! It is absolutely unbearable to work in during the day unless you have godly noise-cancelling headphones or are okay with constant tinnitus.

AWFUL PLACE- My car got the bumper scraped in the parking lot, hit and run. My upstairs neighbors are a nightmare and stomp at all hours and seem to only do housework between 10-3am. I am sleep deprived. I have complained so many times but nothing results in a change- seems like people just get away with no consequences. Im only a few months into my lease and it’s unbearable. I am not going to renew my lease - Maybe this place is great for some but not recommended for adults with actual jobs- AVOID!!!!!!
SO MUCH CRIME AND STEALING IN THE PARKING GARAGES. My husbands friend came over for not even 20 minutes and his surf board got stolen off of his car. We have packages stolen, mail delivered to us that is already opened, homeless sleep in the halls near the elevator, we’ve had to deal with bed bugs, water damage on the ceilings, ant infestation, rowdy partying neighbors , a big dumpster that looks trashy sitting right outside our patio for people to throw their furniture and things they don’t want in, we have lots of maintenance issues, the place is just really getting run down. Someone tried to break into my car a few months ago and ripped my door handle off. Our friend getting his surf board stolen was our last straw and we’re looking for new apartments as I type this message.
Really old construction. Worst interior and exterior quality. Pathetic staff.
Management is very rigid, we have child with aasthma issue and high risk to covid. Our 1 lease was done, we asked if we can re-rent at market price which they refused and offered us to rent another unit with specials. After multiple request refusal by management, we had not choice but to change unit as our rent is much higher than there current rate. We booked a unit in bldg 8950 but today stay at home order came in, we requested if we could rent same unit at same floor level in our bldg 8540, so as to avoid lot of external movers and reduce exposure to two building. This also they denied. Every email it's same reply from management that "we understand your concerns ", but they are not willing to do anything. I hope in this covid situation Costa verde management can ease up policy to avoid unnecessary move by renters and help communities to lower covid number.
The apartments at Costa verde are really good. They are located at a nice accessible location where we have all type of stores and food and park nearby. The apartment is also nice and spacious and is very well planned in design. Even though these apartments are a bit old but still these are well maintained and looks like newly build. It feels nice to be staying here.
Very close to UCSD and UTC mall. So it has a good entertainment value to it with nice restaurants, shopping and bars. All at a walk-able distance. Very spacious rooms and maintenance is very prompt. Great amenities like pool, Jacuzzi, racquetball court, tanning bed and a Great Gym! Downside is the lease-break options are not good.
Costa Verde is a nice apartment. Modern, mostly clean, and responsive to needs. Only down fall is the loud neighbors and sirens that you can hear in the early morning!
i live in a 1 bed 1 bath apt at costa verde village aptments north side. It's alright overall. No bug problem, good maintenance, etc. It's kind of small for how much we're paying ($1775) but recently the prices of these apartments shot up about 300 dollars. It's probably because the influx of students admitted to ucsd which increased the demand for off campus housing. but it's a good location cuz it's close to the bus stops to campus and it's nice to have UTC and costa verde center near by for food and other stuff.
