North Highlands, California, sits along an industrial area bordered by McClellan Air Force Base. Since the closing of the base in 2001, the site has been converted into a commercial park that has housing and hosts many annual events. The quiet streets of the neighborhood are lined with modest single-family homes, and residents enjoy access to many restaurants and shopping opportunities nearby. Located just 10 miles from Downtown Sacramento, North Highlands is an ideal location for those who work in the city.

Property Ratings at Cottage Meadows
This place… where do I begin? Cockroaches, lizards GALORE (found a family of them in my ceiling light fixture?) and wasps, yes wasps! Water leaking into my bottom floor apartment and making an electrical socket explode :) Packages constantly being stolen, gas siphoned, my car was broken into, my boyfriend’s truck broken into and subwoofer stolen, a lot of homeless digging thru dumpsters (they never bothered me tho) but there was an instance where a man (most likely tweaking) decided to rip out the bushes in front of my building while yelling and cursing. Another instance where a man literally busted through the fence? Lots of kids playing around the complex along with grandparents that walk around all day and will stare you down. Almost every night a loud explosion/boom? Lots of crime in that area. Super noisy. Good luck!
Man! been here a several years now and don't think there's ever been a single day without construction. My girlfriends moved out because of this and safety reasons. It sucks! Management Can do better with notices because we don't receive them at all and this causes a lot of difficulty with everything in life considering it's an everyday thing now. they can so better with maintenance too. Lots of kids like to play outside and it's pet friendly so that's nice for families, but the units are very small with little storage. I'm allergic to animals so that's not that great with all the dogs. just wish it wasn't so loud with construction tools and dirty with debri all the time. Gate stays open till 9pm. Alarming considering all the children that play outside. Sometimes homeless people come in for the dumpsters with their pets but they are non threatening and can be friendly. Overall it is what it is. The area is the main problem with some sketchy stuff going on but if you're a dude who can handle himself you should be fine. I do not recommend this place for single females and advise small families to really consider the limitiness of space. the neighbors are nice. they were diverse a few years ago but now I see more and more russians. it's cool I have russian origin
It's not our ideal living situation as far as space and location but it is pet friendly (up to 20 lbs) and has been a great place to be at our current income level. The area surrounding the complex is a little iffy but the apartments themselves are nice enough and the gates are generally closed every evening for added security. There is only one assigned parking spot for each apartment and it seems that either nobody likes the location of their assigned spot and/or there are just several units with no cars and several with multiple cars since there are many consistently empty assigned spots with the full visitor parking. Management is relatively lenient about many of the terms, presumably with the assumption that everything will either be fixed or paid for so there are several units that smoke, barbecue, etc. None of these impact the quality of life though and other than occasional LOUD children noises outside none of it gets inside the apartment. Our unit's kitchen counter was redone with some sort of epoxy paint put over the top that despite our best efforts is flaking off in some areas and may be an issue when we move. It also is not heat tolerant which means extra consideration when cooking. Additionally, the bar in our unit is replaced by a wall with a small window. This is aesthetically pretty weird and may be a downside for anyone looking to using the dining area for eating. However, for us it actually worked out well as we use the dining space as an office. We fit a queen in our room but you may want to opt for something smaller if you want any other furniture in your bedroom, which you likely will since storage is slim, although you get a bonus closet if you don't have w/d. The only major problems we've had with the unit are the AC going out and not being able to be fixed for over a week and way more house flies and ants in our home than one should ever have to deal with regardless of cleanliness and traps. Also an inconvenience is that it can be difficult to meet with management about maintenance or to pay rent if you work during the week since office hours are only 9-5 M-F, although if you communicate before hand she is usually willing to come in a bit early or stick around late. You also may or may not be able to view a unit before leasing so be sure to ask lots of specific questions about the available unit(s) you're interested in to make sure that any modifications/quirks of that unit are okay for you.
You know, I'm a man of little means in this world. I recently got separated from my wife of about four years. After a few months of mom's cookin', I realize i need to move on with my life. I love my mother to death, but if i stay,-- with her washing my clothes and making me meals , I'm dying inside..cus I'm a MAN!!! and I need a cave!!! So.. I spotted Cottage Meadows Apts....Although i haven't actually 'seen' the apts., they look like just what i need. Trees, clean surroundings, sparkling pool, elbow room ahh...Hey I might need a cave, but i want a cave i can be proud of living in! They even got a cave for my dinosaur!! No my car is only 5 years old.
