While there is a variety of rentals in the Wausau metropolis, the early bird catches the worm. The city’s rent rates are often more affordable than those in surrounding areas, which makes it even cheaper to rent an apartment with roommates or a growing family.
Converted warehouses downtown offer unique apartments that are in walking distance of everything, such as Limericks Public House and Red Eye Brewing Company. Several large apartments have popped up near Northcentral Technical College’s campus, and you may want to live near Stewart Avenue if you’re attending classes at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.
Wausau has been named one of Wisconsin’s Bird Cities – and a renewed effort to add bike lanes in addition to its many walking paths has enabled residents to get in touch with nature. There are many parks, several blooming gardens, and multiple fresh markets that afford residents fresh produce weekly.

Property Ratings at Crabtree Park Townhomes
Looked at these townhomes and not happy with what we saw. They are dated inside. The outsides are not well maintained unless maintenance is done by tenants. Otherwise it does not get done. Rent is well above the fair market value for a 2 bedroom apartment in the area. Much nicer available in the area for lower price.
My husband and I moved and lived in these town homes for 6 months and cut our lease short because we were so unhappy. Upon moving in we were assured this place was up to code and ready for move up. Shortly after our move our front door was rotting off the hinges and we experienced our first leak in the unit. We have had three leaks a broken heater and a faulty garbage disposal. Every time we would call for maintenance it was a big deal that we were “complaining” about the unit. Our garage door would not close and the bottom was rotted off. The drains would drain so slow and have still not been fixed. Nothing was kept up with like promised. The landlord who lives in Madison never comes around and is very rude and hostile to deal with. I could go on but overall awful experience do your research before moving in to these units. Not worth the money!
This secluded community of townhomes are nestled amongst beautiful white pine and crab trees. It is truly the best kept secret in Wausau, Wisconsin. Crabtree Park Townhomes offers spatial units, friendly neighbors and exceptional management. The townhomes are close to schools, shopping and the city, yet you feel as if you are in living in a resort. I am very happy to call Crabtree Park Townhomes my home.
