The city leadership in Wilkes-Barre has worked hard to promote a “walk-to-everything” lifestyle, with a general layout that is very friendly to pedestrians. This is particularly noticeable around the downtown area, where apartments, businesses, and public parks are all easily accessible on foot.
Just behind King’s College, River Common offers walking trails, a boat launch, an amphitheater, and plenty of space to just relax and enjoy a view of the Susquehanna River. The Public Square serves as the venue for outdoor events throughout the year, from the weekly farmer’s market to the annual Fine Arts Fiesta. Mohegan Sun Arena hosts larger sports and entertainment events regularly.
The ski areas and state parks surrounding Wilkes-Barre are very popular with tourists, and residents get to enjoy full access to these natural attractions year-round.

Property Ratings at Cumberland Apartments
I recently moved to Wilkes-Barre and chose a studio apartment here. It’s been a great place to live, offering almost everything I need. The in-building laundry facilities are a big convenience, and the controlled access adds a sense of security. There’s also a Dollar General right infront of the building, and the building offers paid parking spaces. The area is quiet, though you might hear fire engine sounds sometimes since it’s near a fire station. My studio has a private closet and washroom, and it also comes fully equipped with Wi-Fi, heating, and cooling, so there’s no need to buy anything extra for comfort. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, electric stove, conventional oven, and microwave, which makes cooking easy. I’ve had a great experience with the management—Sara is always just a call away if you need anything, and maintenance is hassle-free. The only thing I miss is having a gym on-site. Overall, it’s a comfortable and convenient place for someone living alone.
