Located on Lake Erie’s western shore, Monroe sits on the Detroit-Toledo Expressway, just 17 miles north of Toledo and 35 miles south of Detroit. Michigan’s third oldest community, Monroe is one of the most historic cities in the state. Monroe was the site of the River Raisin Battlefield, the bloodiest battle of the War of 1812.
Aiming to balance the stewardship of historic preservation with the opportunities of economic development, Monroe is quickly becoming an arts and cultural hotspot. The River Raisin Jazz Festival draws tens of thousands every year in addition to the Monroe County Fair. Downtown Monroe is home to the Monroe County Historical Museum and the River Raisin Centre for the Arts as well as plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. Monroe’s Sterling State Park on the shores of Lake Erie offers residents and visitors access to boating, swimming, camping, wetlands exploration, hiking, and fishing.

Property Ratings at Custer Estates Apartments
The apartment became very hot in the summer due to only having one AC unit in the main living room, so master/guest bedroom doesn't get any are. A credit is that the place is well maintained however the landlord is NOT easy to deal with.
Apartments don't have any air units besides the one in the living room, so in the summer it gets very hot. Landlord is also extremely hard to deal. Would not recommend..
The apartments are a decent size for the price. The two bedroom is significantly bigger than most others around Monroe (especially the main bedroom, bathroom, and living room), but is either about the same price or only a little more. The area is decent, with the mall and Walmart so close. But honestly, other than that, I can't say much else good about them. The women that work in the office aren't too great. One is older and kind of rude, and the other doesn't seem like she knows anything is basically just there to say when the other woman will be back. The people who live here are all pretty rude and disrespectful. Everyone is loud all the time. A lot of people who live here have parties a lot (and this is coming from someone who is college age) and it's just not a pleasant atmosphere.
This is a perfect place to build a growing family. This neighborhood is so quiet and peaceful, I have never had any problems with noise, especially with a newborn that's a very key thing. The staff here are always so kind and always very helpful with anything we needed; anytime any thing has gone wrong with our appliances the staff would send someone the next day to fix it. It's also a plus that you live right on the outside of town, so your close enough to the city but still far away enough away that you don't get the busy traffic of the city. This is the first home I paid for myself and I'm so happy that I choose Custer Estates to be my families first home.
