Nestled alongside the Missouri River, Dakota Dunes is a scenic master-planned community in the southeastern-most portion of South Dakota. Dakota Dunes touts a bevy of elegant homes in between large swaths of lush landscaping, in addition to a peaceful atmosphere and numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The community is home to the prestigious Dakota Dunes Country Club, which was designed by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer and praised by both Golf Week and Golf Digest as the best of its kind in the state. There are also plenty of parks, trails, basketball courts, and green spaces to enjoy in Dakota Dunes.
While the community offers a secluded feel, Downtown Sioux City is just a five-minute drive away. Sioux Falls, the largest city in South Dakota, is an hour’s drive from Dakota Dunes as well. Quick access to I-29 makes getting around from Dakota Dunes easy.

Property Ratings at Dakota Prairie Apartments
Apartment located right off interstate, miles of biking/walking paths throughout Dunes area & golf course, apartment has vaulted ceilings, lots of light, awesome appliances and fireplace. Allow dogs and there is a huge open area next to the apartment which has been great for tossing the ball with our dog. Nita, the property manager, has been the best. We've lived in many apartments in various states over the years - and this is the only POSITIVE review I have written. She made the move in process effortless and made the exit process simple as well. Over the past year, any issue was addressed immediately. No automated or outsourced call center - just a simple call, she answered & someone was at our door in literally minutes. WOW!!
Family friendly, safe environment, and great place to call your home! The apartments are very spacious and are a great set up for any family. A big thing I always look for when moving into an apartment is storage and the water pressure of the showers. This apartment will not disappoint in either of those areas. The apartments come with garages which make for great storage as well as a nice shelter for the vehicle from the elements. There is tons of closet space, drawers, and areas for a growing family. During our time living here we had our dryer go out and within 24 hours of submitting our maintenance ticket we had a new one brought and installed. I haven’t seen a turn around like that on maintenance tickets before and was extremely impressed with the management and maintenance crew. The staff here at Dakota Prairie Apartments have always been nothing but professional in nature and want what is best for their tenants. I recommend these apartments for any family moving here!!
If you live a generally quiet, boring life and enjoy little social interaction, this place is for you. The apartments are plain, yet clean and very sensible. The amazingly neutral colors are sure to attract even the most vanilla of all renters. The fireplace keeps you warm in the brutally cold winters of South Dakota and the air conditioning in every room is a plus during the sweltering summer heat. The property managers are wonderful, if not a tad older than you would expect for property managers. They try their best, always delighted to come fix a broken toilet handle or leaky pipe. Their dogs are equally as adorable. The bad: the water is as hard as a rock, staining every kitchen utensil and bathtub. They suggest a water softener, which they will gladly provide for an additional charge. The toilet handles are tightened, as tight as a the drum line in Drumline. I broke two, just trying to flush the toilet. Small dogs are allowed and while I love dogs, I never did get over being barked at by my neighbor's dog, every time I left or came home for a year. The poor dog was a broken record of anxiety. Overall, for an introvert who enjoys the quiet, my year living here was pleasant and uneventful, exactly what you expect and desire in an apartment.
