Shelbyville, also known as “The Walking Horse Capital of the World” and “The Pencil City,” has produced well-known congressmen and Academy-Award-nominated actresses, but the city’s real calling card is its small town allure. The city has plenty of parks to enjoy, from HV Griffin Park and Never Rest Park, to the Duck River Dam that’s been seen in movies. Shelbyville’s annual horse show excites residents and brings in visitors from all over Tennessee, but U.S. 231 and U.S. 41A are rarely overcrowded.
