Built in 1879, the foundry shop served its original purpose for the C.A. Lawton Co. until 1971. During the 1980s, the city of DePere slated the downtown area, including the foundry, for redevelopment and revitalization. According to the Wisconsin Main Street Program-a statewide effort to promote historic preservation-a small work force from Lawton remained downtown, using the foundry as office space until it closed up shop for good in 1990. Years later, the abandoned Lawton site attracted a slew of developers, but most had plans to demolish the deteriorating structure and hammer out a new building. Eventually, the structure was slated for the wrecking ball several times. Enter the Alexander Co. After being spared from destruction, the Lawton Foundry buildings were renovated into 70 one- and two-bedroom flat-style apartments and town homes, ranging in size from 574 square feet to more than 1,820 square feet. Property Ratings at Depere Lawton Foundry
I've lived in 5 apartments and Lawton was easily my best renting experience. The unit itself was terrific - spacious, new appliances, great aesthetics, and right across the street from Voyageur Park and the Fox River. Was sad to leave when I moved states. In addition the management was outstanding. Prompt replies to all questions, very accommodating and friendly. Maintenance was also very helpful and painless on the few occasions we submitted requests. Overall this place is a diamond in the rough of the rental market.
I can not say enough good things about this wonderful apartment that my husband and I lived in while temporarily working in Green Bay. I would recommend these unique, spacious homes. It feels like a true loft in a large city but right in the area of Green Bay. The management and maintanence where always attentive and helpful. I really miss living there. I had to be transferred and wish I could go back.
