East Village is known as Des Moines’ most vibrant and diverse district. Located between the Iowa State Capital and the Des Moines River in downtown Des Moines, East Village is a charming place to call home. The neighborhood is highly accessible by car, bike, bus, and even foot. History runs deep in East Village, recognized by historical museums and landmarks. The State Historical Museum of Iowa is a must-visit location to learn more about Iowa’s rich heritage. Historical landmarks can be found throughout town and include the Liberty Bell Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and American Revolution Memorial.
Shopping, fine dining, and an upbeat nightlife are perks of living in this wonderful downtown area. If you’re looking for live music, check out Wooly’s, a town hot spot for live entertainment. Get a drink before a show at the Iowa Taproom, a historic, industrial bar with an array of craft beers and locally crafted eats.

Property Ratings at District at 6th Apartments
Staff is generally very available but the pool needs more care at times. All in all a great place to live at a great price. I would refer again.
The community here is so welcoming! Anthony the manager does an amazing job making you feel at home and welcomed! The apartments are spacious and cozy.
We absolutely love living here. We couldn't ask for better staff, neighbors, or amenities. Our expectations are not only met, but often exceeded.
I have lived at District @6th for a couple years now and have loved the amenities and great staff!! Maintenance requests are handled extremely quickly, the office staff are extremely helpful & accommodating, and the community is respectful & welcoming!
Quiet, friendly neighbors, beautiful view from my terrace! The shared spaces are in great condition and always well-maintained. Maintenance is quick and helpful. Anthony is the best!
District @ 6th is a pleasant place to live. Located in the East Village, it is close to fine restaurants, bars, and shopping. The units are well-designed. Appliances and cabinetry are good but not top-of-the-line. Parking is available underground, at a designated surface lot, and on the street. Two pet limit. The facility has a swimming pool and green space outdoors in the center of the complex. An exercise room is available for tenants. I recommend this complex to others.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Units are clean and modern. Complex is quiet and comfortable
The staff and community are all very friendly, helpful, go the distance, easy application, and timely on any requests. If there is ever an issue, they resolve it and show they care about you. Quiet building, beautiful views, clean, amenities rock, and close enough to walk anywhere downtown. 24 hr gym, vending machines, underground garage, elevator, pool, court yard, grill, exterior sitting with fireplace, pet friendly with outside walking area. Private entry also using key fob so I feel safe here and the location after several months has proven safe to me also. We will stay awhile.
The building is quiet, beautiful window views, quiet neighborhood, city sleeps, clean apartment, spacious, open feel, parking underground in secured garage, 24 hr gym, confrence room, and courtyard. Vending machines, elevator, staff on site regularly, safe feel, quick maitanence, pet friendly, and close to many different businesses within walking distance of downtown. Management offers community perks and points. Easy leasing options and quick move in time.
It’s a nice place to live very friendly and quiet , management engages on holidays very helpful and lenient. The communication here is top tier. Over all a 10/10
For the amenities, location, square footage, upgrades and finishes, view, ease of leasing, quiet building, and on site management, you won’t find another place like this one for this price. I signed a 15 month lease.
District at Sixth is a welcoming rental community with a beautiful East Village location. The pool and gym are well maintained, secure underground parking (plus the benefit of EV chargers!), and wonderful management staff to help with any living needs. The units are easy to maintain cleanliness and the energy efficiency helps keep energy bills low year-round.
Well-designed apartment residences at a prime location in downtown Des Moines. Higher-grade appliances, underground parking, and units with direct access to the street are unique features of the apartment complex. Large private outdoor area for grilling, relaxing, and wonderful in-ground swimming pool are additional features.
Moving to District at 6th has been very convenient and I love being in East Village where I can walk to lots of activities easily. Staff has been very friendly, helpful, and accessible through moving in and my first weeks in the building. Highly recommend!
applying here was made so easy with the help of friendly staff, and since moving in i have enjoyed every day of living here.
There are so many amenities to maintain and manage and this team does the very best to maintain them. The residents bring the ratings down. The air BNB’s will be gone soon in 2023, which will bring the resident rating up. The location is great despite some units being vulnerable to indistinguishable train noises and the traffic on SE 6th street. The parking may be difficult to manage for particular residents, despite their wide open parking garage. The appliances are top tier including the granite countertops, in-unit washer/ dryer, microwave, glass stovetop, and balcony, etc. The gym is my favorite amenity along with the potential of the community room.
Great experience here thus far! Happy with my apartment and any issues I do have, are quickly answered! It’s close enough to everything but far enough away where you don’t feel overwhelmed.
District at 6th is great. Has the basics, good location, good people.
district at 6th is the most perfect place to live in Downtown Des Moines! So clean and quiet! If you’re lucky enough to get Anthony as your leasing agent you won’t regret your decision!
Great place to live. Convenient to all things “East Village!” Tracey and Anthony take good care of us.
Management signed off on a third party's development of over 27 new Airbnb rentals on the property, compromising building security, cleanliness and waste management, and community amenities like the pool, gym, courtyard, and more. Not only did management fail to notify any residents of this decision, but they still haven't. The Airbnbs have been incredibly disruptive. Aside from the noise, renters have attempted to enter my home on three separate occasions (just while I was home) and messed with property outside my door to the point of me paying to install a camera. There's also a mice infestation in this building, yet management does not hold the Airbnbs accountable for leaving garbage in the hallways or on the trash chute room floor. My lease agreement states, "residents are prohibited from subletting or renting to any third party, or allowing occupancy by a third party, of all or any portion of the premises, whether for an overnight use or duration of any length—which includes advertising the dwelling on Airbnb.com or other similar sites." It also says the lease agreement "allows for use of your dwelling as a private residence only and strictly prohibits conducting any kind of business in the premises." I'd love to know why management gave HSSH Properties and Frontdesk the green light to use this property as a makeshift hotel. I'd also love to know why management did not communicate this change to current tenants because this is not the community we agreed to live in.
It’s a great place to live. Location is perfect for enjoying the East Village and Downtown activities without the noise and congestion. New owners are taking steps to really make it a great place to live.
District at 6th is a great place to be. The location is convenient if you work close to downtown and the building has some nice perks you should definitely consider.
Everyone at the front has been very helpful. The main guy working in the leasing office is very knowledgeable at what he does and always willing to listen.
The apartment is so good and has a lot of space and it also has a pool what a good apartment
My studio has been well-maintained and is very spacious, especially in comparison to other alternatives near the downtown area!
The buildings and apartments are nice. However, for the price of rent it ridiculous, especially since residents pay for all water, heating, and electricity. You also must pay a ridiculous amount per month if you want to park in the garage. One nice thing is pet rent is not too expensive and they do not have any pet restrictions.
I have toured what feels like almost every apartment complex in downtown Des Moines and I had by far the best experience at the District. The property managers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Tracy showed us a handful of open unit options, ensuring we found the one that fit all of our needs and we liked the best. The amenities were also great. We can't wait to move into our new place!
I toured the District at 6th a couple weeks ago and had a great experience. The property is very well maintained with a variety of floor plans. Not only were the apartments nice, but the property management company was very helpful. They were able to help me find a new apartment that checked all the requirements I was looking for in a new place. I can’t wait to move in!
Fairly nice apartments, but do not live on the top floor.
Went to tour property, and it was beautiful. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to moving in, in a few weeks.
I have been here for a month. Electrical outlets do not work. Microwave and stove do not work. I do not have access to pool without walking 2 blocks because my access door does not work. Although people from all over sneak in to have large loud middle of night pool parties (when the pool is not green -- pool poorly maintained) . There is garbage everywhere -- I have picked up 3 large bags. The trash rooms are overflowing..I did not have AC for a week. There is stagnant standing water in garage No response from "management" despite repeated attempts. DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!!
