Navy Yard extends along the Anacostia River, from roughly Capitol Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. It includes Nationals Park, home to the MLB's Washington Nationals, and the US Navy Museum. The neighborhood contains the Washington Navy Yard, a National Historic Landmark. Established in 1799, it is one of the country's oldest operating naval facilities. Navy Yard is a popular, exciting neighborhood with fantastic brownstones and incredible river views.
Due to its industrial past, Navy Yard contains a variety of renovated factories converted into lofts and office space. The neighborhood also offers a terrific blend of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. After choosing an apartment in Navy Yard, you'll want to visit Canal Park, a terrific park with artwork, a restaurant, gardens, interactive fountains, and a wading pool. The Anacostia Riverwalk Trail extends through the neighborhood, following the river and providing the ideal space for walking and jogging.

Property Ratings at Dock 79
Fantastic Staff. Great Property. Better Residents.
Excellent option for living with a great view to the river; and nice restaurants and pubs around
Jorge and everyone on the building maintenance team are efficient, friendly and accommodating all around. They are the best!
Dock 79 staff is very responsive to requests. It does not take long for maintenance to respond to call and fix the issue in an efficient and professional manner.
Overall an excellent living experience I'm at my home and LOVE IT
Submitted a maintenance request Sunday evening, and Monday morning someone was knocking on my door to resolve the issue. The responsiveness alone is worth it! Awesome job!
This is an amazing place to live. I wish there were more community activities, but we are in the middle of a pandemic so I understand.
I had a great layout and a balcony overlooking the water. When moving in, I received wonderful customer service. After about a month, the truth started to reveal itself. Positive things: -Decorated for most holidays -Variety of events -Security team was courteous -About half of the concierges were very personable Negative things and a few personal instances as a resident: -Consistent fishy smell throughout the halls that will stay in your clothes until you move (except in the common areas with the toxic migraine causing plugs and the staff refused to remove or lessen the smell) -Immature, inexperienced management staff -Maintenance would have ‘routine’ checks almost monthly, claiming they need to replace vents, but what they actually do is go to your apartment and look around. I watched this on my nanny cam -Unreasonable office hours for people who work -My first day, I was promised they would put a Verizon tower since I only got service on my balcony and it was never installed -Events occur during traditional work hours -No vegan OR vegetarian options at events. -No non-alcoholic beverages at all events -Lack of customer service included not believing residents. I had a large package that was wrongfully placed in the refrigerator, ruining about $400 in products for my business. I had to argue for three months with the PM's boss to prove damages even though I sent pictures. As a result, I lost customers and they couldn't care less. -Printers either do not work -Spotty Wi-Fi when you are in the gym -Blatant favoritism towards certain residents -Claims to have off-site events, but registry links never worked -Treats and giveaways only apply for dogs -They allow children’s screaming birthday parties to continue nearly 24 hours, despite the many phone calls to security and the many residents actually in person complaining, they did nothing because it was a ‘private event’ -Restaurant noise will go on past quiet hours without staff intervening -When the world series occurs, good luck getting sleep and even more luck in getting to your apartment -You have to pay for guest parking (even when it is not baseball season). If there is a game, they have to pay the ‘game day’ price, which can exceed $50 for just 30 minutes -The pool is very loud with lots of intoxication, nudity, and children will squirt everyone with water guns including people with books that are far from the pool
Dock 79 is an idyllic living environment. The staff and residents are very welcoming. Its conveniently located within walking distance of number of restaurants and stores. Additionally, the experience of living in a community along the water has a therapeutic affect!
The community is well kept and clean. Also, the staff is very professional.
The apartments are well-designed, the amenities are high quality, and the staff is fantastic. The front desk and maintenance staff are very friendly and helpful. I can easily call this place home, for the foreseeable future.
Great location, beautifully situated on the Anacostia River at the head of the boardwalk. Great restaurants and retail shops close by. Friendly and helpful staff, providing a very modern (and clean) living experience. Great building layout; and it might be strange to mention but the elevators are on point! Ive never stood in any lobby more than 20 seconds waiting on an elevator. Very zippy! This resort-like complex is also very canine-friendly with a dog park just outside the door. Highly recommend Dock 79 if you find yourself relocating to the SW DC area!
All staff are very professional and try hard to satisfy clients/tenants needs. The were some slight miscommunication between the staff in leasing and billing on my account. My welcome letter was sent to me three times with changes made, and still does not accurately reflect the additions Ive made since moving in. I like the autopay option, and will enroll in that when my ledger has been updated to the correct amount.
Dock 79 is truly a home. The amenities provided are amazing along with the location. Everything is right there - - amazing restaurants, Harris teeter and view of the river. Rooftop has an amazing view.
My boyfriend and I were initially looking at several other buildings in the neighborhood, when we decided to check out Dock 79. We were a bit unsure at first but after viewing the building, going over various floor plans and our experience with Ahmed, we were immediately sold! It has been an absolute pleasure working with Ahmed and the rest of the Dock 79 staff who has been super helpful and has made this entire moving process stress free and fun. We look forward to calling Dock 79 our home!
I highly recommend Dock 79. I looked at almost every building in Navy Yard before settling on Dock 79. After living here for over a year, I can say without any reservations it is by far the best apartment building in the area. The units, amenities, staff, location and design are all very high quality. The staff really goes out of their way for their tenants' needs. Tenants are friendly and there is a good sense of community. Forbes just ranked Navy Yard as one of the top 12 coolest neighborhoods in the world, so definitely a good area to be in. I plan on living here as long as I rent in D.C.
It’s a beautiful location but building has many downsides. Ability to enjoy your living space is highly dependent upon neighbors in your hallway. Apts are not well insulated from noise so many residents have frequent and on going complaints. Also, contrary to the rules there are several pit bulls in the bldg. if you have one, you will like it. If you don’t, you really won’t.
Waterfront building, river views, rooftop pool, ample community space (both indoor and outdoor), and brand new everything in an awesome part of town: it doesn't get much better than this. I've loved living at Dock79 since Sept. '16. I'm in a one-bedroom facing the river and it is a spacious layout (the same layout as the model unit). The building is super social with rarely a week going by without a leasing office, resident or promotional company happy hour, like the Opening Day Pig Roast, Holiday Ugly Sweater Party, or happy hour celebrating our new wellness coordinators (who host weekly yoga and HIIT classes). Bonus points: the building is super dog friendly, with a dog park and Bardo right outside (also right by is Wagtime Too). Did I mention the free coffee machine downstairs? Or the flat screens on the roof and the fire pits downstairs? Or the bikeshare program and dry cleaning offered through the building? Really - I can't say enough great things about Dock79. It is the best of the many, many buildings in the Navy Yard area. I can't wait for spring to be in full swing and see the neighborhood come alive!
Dock 79 was my first apartment in DC after moving from New York and I could not have asked for a warmer welcome! Having a spacious, beautifully designed apartment was all I needed, but Dock 79 goes above and beyond. The location is awesome, and provides a calm area right outside your back door with the river, but also doesn't lack things to do with a baseball stadium right on the other side! There are also lots of fun new restaurants and attractions in Navy Yard, which is very "up-and-coming." The building is also super pet friendly for my fellow animal lovers. :) It's been a pleasure working with the management here, and the handyman, Jorge, is super nice and always responsive. I've loved living here and would happily recommend it to anyone!
We were 1 of the first units to move into Dock 79, and we've absolutely loved it! Location, amenities, apartment layout, everything!! It's a great place to live. Brand new, awesome rooftop with an infinity pool, across the street from Nats Park, walking distance to everything in Navy Yard and Capital Hill, metro accessible, the list goes on and on! There's also a dog park, garage parking, a new beer garden next door, and new restaurants opening this Spring! We enjoy our neighbors and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to live in DC!
I moved in to Dock 79 last November and I couldn't be happier. My boyfriend and our two dogs love living on the water, and the complex is lacking in nothing. The staff are the friendliest, the apartment beautiful and well thought-out, the amenities top notch (yay for opening the roof!), and the location perfect. Everyone should live here!
I love living at Dock 79! I moved in as one of the first move in because I was so eager to check out Navy Yard life. So far it has exceeded my expectations- and Spring has just started! There is so much within walking distance, I can walk to a number of bars and restaurants in less than 15 minutes. Plus the walk is beautiful! The building is next door to a beautiful bridge that connects us to the Yards Park. The metro is also a shirt walk away! The apartment itself is modern and sleek and was so fun to decorate! I plan on being here for a while! And I can't wait to see how the area develops.
