The dragon legend dates back to 1894, when a group of residents living along the lake claimed to be terrorized by an enormous, 80-foot-long "dragon" that lived in the lake. The festival, which is held in August, includes live music, art, wine and craft beer tasting, and dragon boat races. Downtown Lake Orion is home to two bicycle trails, the Paint Creek and Polly Ann trails. Residents also enjoy several beautiful parks, a boat launch, and a variety of shops and restaurants.
