Property Ratings at Drake Apartments
I lived in this apartment for 2 years. At first everything was great, then eventually with time there was wear and tear. There was a critter living in the walls at one point but they did remove it within a day. The ceiling wall was starting to concave and management didn't do anything. As well as they do paint over anything/everything. Our windows were painted shut and was a struggle for me to open it. The one thing that bothered me most was that our kitchen countertops is simply old wood, and not proper countertops so I would had to buy additional items to place over it so it wouldn't get ruined. The apartment was very dark inside, and the sun would pop through for about 45 minutes a day during the summer. What I did like about the apartment was that it was very spacious and open, the neighborhood is walkable and plenty of things to do, but the cons of the apartment outweighed the good.
This apartment has been the most disgusting place I have ever lived in Milwaukee. My college apartments were better than this. The heat is inconsistent and there is always bugs. Centipedes, ants, fruit flies, etc. I have to call or text the building manager many times to even get a response, he rarely gives a solution to any problems. When I call the main office they try to refer me to the building manager. The building is filthy. There was mold in my apartment and their solution was to paint over it. A homeless man was living in the filthy "courtyard" and they refused to take action. I would never recommend this building and I would never recommend renting from Shoreline.
My fiancé and I have lives here at Drake Apartments for over 2 years and we are more than pleased with it. The location is fantastic because being at the end of a quiet city street, it feels more like a home than an apartment complex. It is also close to everything from work to shopping needs, making life a little simpler. The management and maintenance team do an excellent job with all repairs and lawn care and are always quick to fix any issues on rare occasions they arise. There is just no reason not to love this place. I believe we are here to stay until we are ready to move into something bigger!
The Drake was built in the 1900s so it has a very old feel, but lots of character. The rent is extremely affordable and the neighborhood is in the upper east side of Milwaukee. Unfortunately, a lot of repairs are needed on a monthly basis. There is no garbage disposal and the laundry room is located in the basement. It's a great place to live for young twenty somethings with not a whole lot of disposable income.
