Property Ratings at Dutch Village Apartments
Extremely noisy. You can hear every thud from people walking down the stairs, to people slamming the door constantly. Thuds from the hallway keep me up at night without earplugs. Can't open the windows a lot because of the leaf blowers, lawn mowers, and traffic outside. I live in one of the older buildings. Don't listen to everyone else claiming this is quiet. I can, from my apartment, hear my neighbor across the hall having a conversation in his apartment. I've lived in student housing with better noise insulation. The apartment was also not in great shape upon move in.
I've been living in Dutch Village on and off for almost 35 years. The Historic buildings are not only quiet, but constructed with brick. wood floors plus lath and plaster walls. You can't hear a peep from the neighbors. The grounds are beautiful, and the atmosphere stately, much like an Ivy League University (Think Brown U meets Harvard). As a writer, I've written dozens of novels here and hundreds of articles. Even when I've owned homes, I've rented studios as a quiet writing space. If you're looking for a party atmosphere, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for units with all mod cons, check out the new buildings.
POTENTIAL TENANTS PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING A LEASE. While my stay there at the apartments was okay there were issues with management along the way. When I first moved in a year ago I had to do a virtual tour because of COVID and being out of state. The apartment looked great so I signed the lease. When I finally got to see the place in person it turned out my building was a smoking building and was drenched in the smell of cigarette smoke. When I asked them about it, it was too late and I was told I can move to a “newer apartment” because those were the only ones available but would have to pay more for rent. I had to purchase several air purifiers on my expense which attempted to help keep the smell out of my apartment over the year. When I moved out I requested to do a walk through tour as it was recommended but when the manager came she said she couldn’t go through because there was too much stuff in the apartment still. I attempted to reschedule with her but the hours were unforgiving to a normal working schedule. She was not helpful and therefore had to succumb to having her go through without me there. I asked to be notified if there were any issues and only found out about them when I received my security deposit in the mail $800 short because I apparently had to replace the carpet due to pet stains I was not aware of or notified of despite vacuuming and shampooing the carpets before leaving. When I reached out to management they were not at all reasonable. My cat did not once have an accident on those carpets. IF YOU HAVE PETS BE PREPARED TO PAY FOR A NEW CARPET! The carpet that I had when I moved in was old already and when asked for proof that the stains weren’t there from a previous tenant they refused to provide it. I would recommend staying here if you are looking to be ripped off to help pay for updates to an old building that you should not be responsible for.
Apartments are fine haven’t been updated since the 1980’s. Maintence is slow. Have had multiple issues fixing the outside lighting where it takes months to fix the broken lights. Hard to get in touch with management to have any maintence done

Thank you for your review. Since you wrote it, we have made many updates to our apartments (flooring, amenities, groundwork, etc.). We actually even built four brand new buildings that we call Dutch Village IV. As for maintenance requests, we've hired a lot of staff since 2018, which has created the positive effect of getting much faster and more responsive to requests.
We have been living at Dutch Village for one year now while building a new home. It has been the best experience. The apartment itself is spacious and has tons of character with hard wood floors and a working fireplace. It never felt like an apartment. We have a two bedroom penthouse with lots of storage and closet space and it has a very nice flow to it. The surrounding residents are very nice and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. It is extremely quiet,we NEVER hear our neighbors and is set in a park like environment. The buildings are maintained exceptionally well and immaculate, even the laundry room which has its floors washed every week. They also wash the hallway floors every week. The maintenance staff can not do enough for you. The management staff is the same. They are extremely helpful and kind and do their best to make you feel at home right away. The property is on the historical registry so it is maintained accordingly. You won't be disappointed and the pictures do not do it justice. Take a ride over and see one before you choose your next home.

Thank you for your heartfelt review. We couldn't be happier that you enjoyed your experience at Dutch Village. On a side note, we are currently getting new professional photos this year, so now our pictures will do Dutch Village justice!
Right off the bat, dealing with staff and grounds management is phenomenal. They get what you need and work hard to make living here a luxury experience. The buildings are maintained very well, clean, spacious, and quiet. We are set in a great area, literally, close to everything. (malls, outlets, shopping, interstate, city) In addition, the surrounding area is very well developed and nice to look at. Sprawling mansions, wooded areas, and little to no traffic. If you're looking for a spacious, luxury living experience - check out the Dutch Village Apartments.
