Property Ratings at East 12 Lofts
This location is amazing and it is almost worth suffering through the shortcomings of the units at East 12th Lofts to live in the Buckman neighborhood. It is obvious that the developer of the property only cared about making money and gave zero thought to indoor air quality as the units are laid out shotgun style with a single window to ventilate two virtually separate spaces. There is also no easy way to install an AC which is definitely needed in the summertime and the units do not come with. Sound can also be an issue as the walls are incredibly thin, so while noise should be expected in urban living be sure to prepare yourself to hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are doing. While the units are awful the amenities and staff here are great so if you just need a place to crash after hanging out at all the places in the area this is a good spot (if you can afford it).
Since I have lived here 3 cars have been broken in to and 2 have been stolen. Still no form of security guard. The property management is not helpful and skimp on cost anytime they can, I would say about 4 months on and off the front door has had issues opening and the door to the community room has been broken even longer. I was once trapped in the community room for over an hour till someone opened the door to let me out seeing as the handle on my side wasn't working. There are a lot of section 8 people that live on the bottom floor and I have had mail stolen repeatedly. I also watched a homeless an use a key fob and load up his bike ith mail while I was talking to the police. A friend of mine who also lives here has had his bike tire stolen from the locked bike room. The apartments are nice and the area is great but the crime and lack of care from management has been obsessive. I don't recommend moving in.
New loft complex in the missile of the desirable Buckman neighborhood in Portland. There's a lot to like. Modern features in an older neighborhood. Nice community room and awesome deck with views of downtown Portland. The units are family expensive for their small size. My unit is approximately 400 sq feet. Nice modern kitchen and washer dryer in every unit. The downside is, the walls are verrrry thin. Better get to know your neighbor because your lives will be very intertwined. Also, though it is Portland and the weather is generally cool, there is no A/C and there is no way to cross ventilate your apartment with only 1 big window in each apartment. This means that to cool your apartment down you'll have to have your front door open with all your neighbors and their guests looking in, or just suffer through it. Portable a/c units are an option but since the windows aren't traditional shapes, you'll have to do some rigging to make that a viable option. All in all, I love the location and I like having modern appliances so I give East 12 a thumbs up, but it's pretty expensive and you'll definitely have days where you question your decision to move in.
