Considered the cultural capital of the South, downtown Charleston contains the French Quarter on the east, sporting cobblestone streets and gaslight lamps, and Market Street on the west, where the famous Charleston City Market operates. Because the downtown area sits between the Ashley River and the Cooper River, residents can walk from their apartments to Waterfront Park, a few blocks south, for a little rest and relaxation or wander along the narrow streets, where historic homes and buildings proudly sit.
Locals enjoy spending time at the Charleston Crab House for both the fresh seafood and the homey atmosphere. They can people-watch on the outside terrace while enjoying good food and cold drinks.

Property Ratings at The Charleigh
Although the location is great, one of the more walkable locations in Charleston and central to many things to do, I had a pretty miserable experience living here. When I initially moved in the floor in my apartment vibrated every time the tenant below me used their HVAC. I was told there was nothing they could do to solve the problem and after a couple weeks of living in a hotel and having to get corporate involved, the problem was finally resolved but no offer was ever made to compensate me for not being able to live there during that time when I asked the asst. manager about it. Otherwise, the walls are paper thin and I could hear my neighbors listening to music, watching tv, and just talking every time I was there. For the amount of rent I paid, living almost daily in noise cancelling headphones was awful and I was happy to move out when my lease was up.
Currently going through some pains in terms of proper building and tenant management. This usually happens when a change of hands occurs of ownership and unclear guidance on where people's jobs begin and end. Hopefully in a few years time this can be worked through but as of now would feel this apartment is not the greatest place to live
so dog friendly, except the pool situation, but for service animals supposedly there is an exception, and i don’t mean emotional support, service animals. but the dog facilities and park and community of dog families is amazing!
Elan is a fantastic community of friendly people. The building is quiet and clean, and the amenities are beautiful. Located in the center of downtown, walkable to anything you want to do! On top of that, staff is absolutely amazing!!
Elan apartments are a great place to call home in downtown Charleston. Conveniently located to King St. and a short walk to the market. The apartments are very nice and the courtyard and pool are a great place to relax with plenty of room. The front staff are friendly and helpful with any issues. Great place to call home in Charleston.
I have only been at Elan Midtown for a few weeks, but everything has been great. My apartment is very nice, very clean, and very new. There is a trash service at your door which I like. I also like the pool and the fitness center. I like to exercise and do different workouts but the fitness center fills all my workout needs. I also like the parking. Then there is also a friendly community that one can meet at events.
I have loved it so far - the staff, unit, amenities, and great location! Looking forward to the next year here and feel that it is well worth the money

I moved here from CA, so my tour was virtual, and all information was by phone or email. Brooklyn was great. She provided everything in a timely manner. Move-in was as painless as possible with a moving van on a Saturday to a multi-level building with elevator. The location is great, within walking distance to good restaurants and possible nightlife when Covid isn’t an issue. Lots of dogs, so my pooch is happy. I have a very quiet apartment. The staff is very laid back and doesn’t make an issue out of minor things. They handle problems discreetly with a smile. Great communication from the staff. I look forward to attending some social events, which they provide monthly, after Covid. I made a good choice.

Can hear right through walls, towed my car after I paid over $100 a month for a spot since I parked in a reserve spot when none of the other spots I pay for were available

Excellent place to live! We are in our 70s, former S of Broad homeowners, have lived here for over 4 years, and have high expectations for cleanliness, maintenance, security, and renter responses. We have lived at the Elan for about six months and have been very happy. It is is a wonderful location. Our favorite part about the Elan is the management staff and people who work there - they are always willing to help out and are reliable and super friendly.

It's got its good points: location, grocery store across the street, close to dining and shopping, trolley and bus stop across the street, what looks like a nice pool, cabana, etc. However, what has bothered me about this place is: A) the horrible smell throughout the building (trash valet contributes to this problem); horrible chemical smell in my apt., which has never been addressed - no fresh air; B) the extremely LOUD construction outside my window which I was not warned about before signing my lease (one of the leasing agents actually told me they're not required to provide a quiet place for their residents to live); C) extremely LOUD air-conditioning - so loud that I can't talk on the phone or hear my TV; C) dirty elevator and homeless panhandlers literally outside the door; D) no concierge or system where you can buzz in guests, delivery people, etc. (You have to physically go to the lobby to let people in); E) no guest parking. If they did something to solve these problems, it would be a great location in which to live. The management is not exactly supportive.
Elan Midtown is the best apartment building in Charleston if you are a student. great location, incredible amenities. Only downside is that the are around the building is still developing. It is very uncomfortable to walk around at night, as there are a lot of sketchy panhandlers. Overall, beautiful apartments for the price.
