West Des Moines is located in three Iowa counties. Residents of this area enjoy perusing the local shops at Valley Junction, which began in 1893. Today it serves as the city’s business district, flavored by undeniable community tradition. With more than 100 specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants, there’s always something new to discover.
On the other side of West Des Moines, Jordan Creek Town Center occupies a large fashion space that includes a 3.5-acre lake and boardwalk. Many apartments are just minutes from the mall’s stores, movie theater, and lakeside restaurants. The city is located in America’s heartland and has cherished quilting since its existence. Quilt-making goes back to the 18th century in West Des Moines, and many people proudly display their creations at city craft expos.
In addition to quilting, residents of West Des Moines enjoy the local productions at Tallgrass Theatre Company on Vine Street.

Great management, spacious apartments with great upgrades, nice community.

Your review means so much to us! Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback. We appreciate your kindness and are pleased to read that you love your living experience at Element at Valley West.
Yes, the apartments are very spacious & for a good price but let me tell you it is not worth it. If you value your necessities such as reliable plumbing & air conditioning, this place is definitely not for you. If you have an issue, you will be unable to get ahold of ANYONE. They make it impossible to get to management. You will talk with a representative on the phone that will then pass your issue to maintenance and then you will be lucky if they ever show up. If they do, the issue will just be temporarily fixed. The grounds are disgusting. If you have any pets, it's incredibly hard to take them outside without them eating trash, cigars, or even stepping on broken glass. There is no security measures at the entrance to buildings (a key, keypad, door code, anything). I can't recommend this place less.

Your time is important and we hope to ensure a better experience moving forward.
I have lived here for two years and I recommend to anyone that will listen to please consider living somewhere else, on the surface it looks great but even the remodeled units are floppy, maintenance has always avoided my requests, I can NEVER have any luck getting someone to call me back from the office. Although it is under new management now they work out of the office and phone calls are filtered though another party that has no idea what complex we are calling from. I’m not a picky high maintenance person but even the bare minimum is a challenge to receive here, there are better options for the price range.

No one answers phones or responds to emails. Went to office one day and the maintenance guy was the only person there he said no one ever comes in to work. Not sure what's going on here but save yourself the hassle.
Of all the emails I sent this past month for many questions/important info, not a single person from Tricap Residential Group has replied since April 19th. I submitted a maintenance issue that was resolved without any work actually being done on the apartment. The office is always locked and their number is impossible to reach (if they reply to this review with the same email as previous replies, it will conveniently have a typo) I will give a higher rating depending on how they reply to my countless attempts to contact them, including one email chain still in limbo after they towed my car in January during the holidays (the day after I asked if their scheduled towings included my car, to which they assured me it was not). If you want to live in an environment when each and every issue from critical to petty involves a months long struggle to communicate with any human being while they consistently remain deliberately evasive, then this is the apartment for you.

Every time I call for the last three months I receive a different price, availablity and different answers to questions about the place. It is a call center and they have no idea about apartments! Someone is to call you back and it's been 3 months and no contact with actual property manager!

Everyone is so nice and its always quite at night.
These apartments feel more like a home rather than just a place to stay. The floor plans make you feel like you're in a house, not an apartment.
Deluxe apartments at a low rate. Good community. I was looking for a long term home instead of a temporary residence and I found it here.
This complex has gone downhill since I moved in seven years ago. Too many problems to comment on. Im sad about it because this complex should be well maintained since it is in a prime location. My apartment is very nice but also deteriorating. Most repair done is the minimum they have to do.
My experience at Washington Heights so far has been alright. I feel as if some if the staff could have been a little more clear and honest about certain situations. However, i understand there are always flukes no matter what, therefore, my experience overall has been a little unpleasant with the staff but my apartment does feel like home and i do appreciate that.
Encouraging, a pleasant environment to make life comfortable.
We started out with several minor issues. The staff did an excellent job responding to our needs.
Washington Heights is a great place to live for animal lovers, single, and families. Great community.
It’s a very old apartment complex. The apartment we live in had old window and we would have to hold the up with wood. I told the office from day 1 we moved in that our windows were broken and they wouldn’t stay open. I had to be really careful when my grandkid came over when they were by the windows. Our deck outside was unsafe to walk on and never got fixed. When it rained water came through our patio door and got the rug wet. Told them our air conditioner didn’t work well & they never fix it. Had 5 different properties managers from the time we move in and left. The 2 apartments below us got water inside and they tore out drywall and never came back to fix there apartments. 1 of them had to live with a dishwasher in the middle of her apartment for almost 6 months until she moved. The other apartment had mushrooms growing in her apartment and they tore out carpet & dry wall left it that was so she couldn’t even use her 2 bedroom. The garage doors a lot are broken, When you drive by they seem new because of the new deck but that let that fool you drive through the apartment complex and you will see old windows & old deck. So no I would never tell anyone to live her. It would be the last place I would tell anyone.
Washington Heights is great place only maintenance needs to speed up. I understand they rank service needs by priority or emergency. Nice dwelling, comfortable space for families, recreational facilities, awesome place to live.
Its not great living here anymore. I wouldnt recommend it.
I really enjoy the spacious 2-bedroom layout and looked all over the Des Moines area before finding this affordable option. It's located very close to the interstate, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. and just a short drive to downtown or the airport.
Friendly people who seem to want to help. However I have had my air conditioning go out three times for a substantial amount of time within the first month of living here. Some outlets did not work when I moved in and I still have had no mention of them being fixed any time soon.
I enjoy Washington Heights. Even while apartment living isn't always easy because living "in community" with others is an exercise in giving and receiving grace, this has been a great community of people to live with. I see adults and kids playing out at the ball/turf courts together, people sharing and helping each other. Office staff and maintenance staff are responsive, receptive to questions and ideas, and provide assistance very timely.
Choosing to reside at this apartment complex for more than 2 years was one of the biggest mistakes of our lives. We’ve dealt with people scratching our vehicle to people shaking our door knob before entering the laundry room to an unrepaired hole in the bathroom ceiling to them removing the foundation in the master bathroom and kitchen and never repairing it (which cause bugs, rain and snow to enter our home). The staff provided empty promises of them agreeing to fix the issues but nothing was ever resolved. In addition, the apartment homes are over priced, the foundation of the homes are shifting, the amenities are outdated; and people steal your packages left in front of your door. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone; and hope that prospects check the surrounding area first before selecting this place.
Living at Washington heiight is a worthy experience. My family feels secure. Clean environment and strategically situated in terms of reaching to some of Iowa's best business locations
We have been here 4 weeks and wish we could move. The air conditioner has leaked water on floor 3x. Pipes leaked in master bedroom closet. At this time there is a hole in the wall and the carpet needs fixed. It took maintenance 8 days to pick up industrial fan that dried out carpet. I feel we deserve some kind of compensation for the hell that we have been through in the very short time we have been here. Please consider this...
The only thing that's great about this place is the property itself and the open spaces. The work order management is extremely poor.
So far, they have been great! They have been super fast and friendly when attending to our service calls. We appreciate their quick service!
Crappy Apartments.
I must say that the property itself is quite nice but I have never been very impressed with the management team. Without going into much detail I just feel they are apathetic towards the needs of us residents.
Amazing place to live, love the staff and the people in the community !
Twice I have had to call Maintenance late for an emergency issue, Both times they responded immediately were very professional and kind. They kept me informed through entire process and wanted to be sure I was ok with anything that needed to be done! Tony and Jeremy are both amazing at their jobs and I know that if I have a problem I can count on them to take care of it! Most everyone I have dealt with in the office or maintenance are wonderful and truly seem to care that residents are happy and taken care of.
Staff will tell you things and sound convincing just to get you to rent an apartment or to get you to leave them alone for a while. It doesn’t matter how nice you are to them. They tell lies and make promises they have no intention of keeping. The maintenance is very poor and half done, dirty, holes in walls for years and issues with water (which they charge you for but not based on your own apartments usage, it’s based on everyone in the building.). Door frame around entry door has been broke for months. Pool has been closed more than it has been open and often times no reason as to why it’s closed. Air conditioners are 30 plus years old. Rent is not cheap and they charge extra for every little thing. Can hear neighbors yelling, fighting and slamming doors all the time. The only thing good about the place is the size of the apartment and the location. BH Management is a joke and they do not care about tenants once they sign a lease. RUN there are plenty of other apartments in the area.
The new staff is amazing! Funny and fun to be around. They are very genuine and always willing to help! Drew, jared and Stacey are awesome! You’ll have a nice laugh with them, they’re funny! From my tour, to move in they helped me along the way and actually cared! Highly recommend these apartments!
I generally don't write reviews but I felt compelled to with my negative experiences here. In addition, I emailed management telling them how unhappy I was and that I would be writing a negative review and never received a response. When I first moved in there were no issues. Management was understanding and easy to work with. In the past year things have gotten worse. Getting ahold of management is a struggle, multiple work orders were put in that weren't dealt with for a of couple days or went unanswered all together, and I wrongfully received $100 late fees on my bill multiple times. If you're looking for an apartment I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
This place is a joke, The Management promises everything to get you in, then you are just income. Apartments have roach problems, and maintenance is very slow and their is no way you are getting help on the weekends. Please don't make the mistake we did, cant wait for the lease to end and get away from this nightmare! Freeze all winter with frozen pipes, no hot water, the list is endless. You have been warned
Maintenance takes forever. They never show up when they say they're going to and when they do, they ate rude. The office staff say they well follow up on things, but they never get done. They won't answer phone calls and when you leave a message, no one calls you back. One girl had mice and roaches and didn't even live there a month because they did nothing. People leave garbage on their patios and no one says anything. DO NOT LIVE HERE! YOU WILL REGRET IT LIKE I DO!
The staff is horrible and unprofessional, there is never open parking, they never repair things the right way or right away, I can't wait to get out of my lease it's been a nightmare!
The worst complex you will ever live, buildings are so old and repairs aren't properly made. You'll freeze in the winter, you'll flood in the spring, summer & fall. Neighbors can behave however they choose, management does nothing!
I lived there for 2 years. Bedroom kept flooding with every heavy rain. Management did nothing but replace the carpet. By the time we left, we had headaches every day from the mold smell. Never again.
I moved in to these apartments with two friends right after we graduated from college. We have experienced great service. The entire staff has been very helpful. The buildings around us have great people and great environment. The entire complex is pro-pet and pro-family. Would recommend for almost anyone.
I currently live at The Club at Washington Heights and really enjoy it. Even though it is so close to I-235 it is very quiet and peaceful. The neighbors are friendly and it is the perfect location. Great for heading to Downtown DSM or over to WDM. The floor plans are spacious and can't be beat for the price. Although a bit older you won't find anything with this much space in some of the newer built communities. Requests are taken care of in a timely manner and the staff is friendly. I enjoy living in this community.
