Nestled beside the Charles River, West End Boston is the city’s premier neighborhood with waterfront views, historic museums, luxury apartments, and more. West End Boston is packed with high-rise apartments, but there are also quaint historic condos that are available for rent as well. This is one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods, but it has plenty of modern advantages. The Massachusetts General Hospital and several doctors’ offices dominate the neighborhood, so you won’t have to go far for a check-up or emergency.
What is it like living in the West End? Well, this neighborhood offers riverside parks for the community. After the sunsets, catch a Boston Bruins or Boston Celtics game at the famous TD Garden or watch a 3D film at Mugar Omni Theater in the Science Museum. Grab a meal at the plethora of restaurants found on the east side of the neighborhood.

Property Ratings at Emerson Place
Disappointing Experience: Not Worth the Money If you’re looking for high rise luxury housing housing there are many other better priced apartment building with better amenities. Emerson Place is not it. The cost is too high with outdated amenities. 1. Inflated Rent: The rental office consistently raises the rents exorbitantly each year, and the rates are significantly higher compared to other apartments with similar offerings in the area. It's frustrating to pay so much more for a subpar living experience. The building doesn’t have any common spaces except for the gym and the gym is pretty outdated. 2. Inconvenient Laundry Facilities: Laundry is pretty expensive at $2.50 for washing and another $2.50 for drying. On top of that, you are required to purchase a $5 laundry card. Furthermore machines not only ruin clothes but also fail to dry them properly at times, leading to an added inconvenience and expense. 3. Noise Pollution: The proximity to a highway behind the building means residents are subjected to loud noises and disruptive construction activities during nighttime. This constant disturbance severely affects the quality of life and peacefulness within the apartments. You cannot open your windows in the summer without loud noises. Furthermore the windows in the apartment don’t have screens which is both a safety hazard and allows bugs in all the time. 4. Unreliable and Unpleasant Elevators: The elevators in this building are frequently out of order, making it an ongoing inconvenience for residents. Moreover, the odorous smell of dog urine in these elevators is both unpleasant and unsanitary. 5. Lingering Odors: The hallways of the building often have an overwhelming stench of marijuana, creating an uncomfortable and undesirable living environment for non-smokers and families. The only redeeming aspect of this apartment building is the maintenance staff and front desk, who are remarkably helpful and friendly. However, considering the numerous shortcomings, I strongly advise against choosing this apartment building. If you have the budget, I urge you to explore other options that offer better value for your money.
Emerson Place gives off the illusion of being luxury when you go there, and the price tag certainly makes it seem like it really is. They show you amenities and the apartments and it seems great. But once you move in you will find it to be a very different story. Packages constantly stolen from the main lobby. Maintenance requests going unanswered for extended periods of time. The elevators being out of service at random intervals when there are hundreds of people who live on high floors. The place is also falling apart. They have done the typical move of repainting and putting in crappy flooring that looks expensive. But when you look closely the walls are falling apart, the appliances are cheap, they break constantly, and this place will be a much bigger headache than it is worth. And considering they're charging thousands of dollars per month to live there, it is NOT worth it.
The management team is awful, and will ignore all complaints. They keep your heat at 80+ and there’s nothing you can do. You will be plagued with construction noises, wall shaking, and hammering and management won’t lift a finger to help you. You do not want to live here, it’s not worth it.
This place seems wonderful when you tour, but don't judge a book by its cover. I have been living here for about seven months now. For the amount you have to pay to be here, you would expect that it would be "luxury." Sure, my apartment is large, which is great, and the location is nice. But the building is falling apart. I've had my ceiling leak, along with about a dozen other things breaking from the window to the door handle literally falling off the day I moved in and trapping me in my apartment. The concierge staff are all wonderful, no issue there. But when things break, it takes forever to get fixed. As an example, the elevators have been broken for almost a week now, so everyone in this massive building have had to use the freight elevator, meaning you're waiting about ten minutes for it to show up because it is slow and has to stop to pick everyone up, then it fills up. When you live on the 20th floor and have dogs or a suitcase or a big package, you can't exactly take the stairs all the way down. If you want value, look elsewhere. If you work at the hospital and want to walk to work, sure maybe it is worth it. But otherwise if you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere because you will be very disappointed. Don't let the nice lobby fool you, this building is not luxury and should not cost as much as it does.
Only the location is optimal. The building is old and they’re always doing renovations and causing so much noise. The building is so old that I cannot use my stove and the outlet next to it at the same time! It’s way too overpriced for what it offers because it’s in a nice location
Ideal location with well kept and attractive grounds. The studio apartments are huge, and mine has the best view in Boston (it looks out over the Zakim Bridge and the Bunker Hill Monument.). The astro-turfed dog park is wonderful and gets a lot of use. There are many dogs in the building and they play together daily. But the building is showing its age. For weeks at a time only one passenger elevator is operating. This can mean 5 to 10 minutes waiting and over -crowded cars. The heating and cooling systems give you a choice between too hot and too cold most of the year. In the spring and fall there will be two weeks or more when they shift from heating to cooling, and at these times there is no heat and no air conditioning. The big windows open but are not screened. This summer and last summer one of the two buildings had repairs to the exterior. From April to October it has been a noisy, dusty construction site.
I've been living at Emerson Place for almost 5 years. Overall, I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The pros are that it is in a great location right behind MGH, in the West End. It is located in a location that is accessible by both the red and green lines. It is also very close to North Station and Cambridge. There are also a lot of stores etc. Also, being on almost the top floor has a great view of the Charles River and Science Museum. Unfortunately, the buildings are blocking 1 Emerson during the July 4th fireworks. The cons are that despite living for many years, the price keeps steeply going up. Additionally, if you don't live on the top floor, expect the people above to be very noisy when walking. Overall, the condition of the apartments is not bad but is a little dated. Remember that this apartment was created in the 1960s.
I just moved to Emerson, the apartment was clean and modern when we moved in, the Emerson staff have been incredibly helpful, and the doorman already knows my name and my dog. They have events for the community, the pool is beautiful, only a short walk to basically all lines on the T. Plus there is so much outdoor space in the area, my dog LOVES the two dog parks, and we love the "Great Lawn" outside our building. Five star so far!
A building of young professionals and new families, Emerson Place offers great promixity to downtown Boston without all of the city hustle. Shared amenities include laundry in the basement, a community pool, gym, movie room, and basketball and tennis courts. The building itself is a bit dated with warnings for lead paint in the stairwells and its position across the street from the infectious disease ward of Massachusetts General Hospital is always a fun anecdote for visitors. But all in all, it is hard to beat the value and location.
