The apartment is located in the West Pine-Laclede Historic District, a separate National Register of Historic Places neighborhood within the larger Central West End. The apartment consists of the entire first floor, and half of the basement. The first floor has a large living room, two bedrooms and full bathroom. It features a large front porch and lots of storage space. The kitchen and dining room are in the basement. The kitchen has been updated with ceramic tile flooring and abundant cabinet space. All appliances are included in the rent. The apartment has central air conditioning and heat supplied by a gas furnace. This is an impressively energy-efficient building. Residents pay their own gas and electric, which typically totals well under $100/month. All other utilities (water, sewer, trash and recycling) are included in the rent. A basement laundry room has two washers and two dryers available for your use (these are shared with the second-floor residents and the owner, who lives next door). A limited amount of storage space is available in the basement. Parking is free and on-street in front of the building. The location is on a quiet residential street with a cul de sac at its eastern terminus. The block has been well-preserved, with a mix of rehabbed historic properties and new "high end" construction. The main campus of St. Louis University is one block east. Washington University's medical campus is one mile west. A short walk takes you to the Cortex district with its new Metrolink station. Also footsteps away are several supermarkets, popular coffeehouses, restaurants, pubs, and shopping options too numerous to name. This is a bicycle-friendly building and neighborhood. Smoking is not allowed in the apartment or anywhere on the premises. If you do not have your own renter's insurance policy, there is an additional fee of $9.50 per month for "Tenant Liability Insurance." Such insurance covers accidental damages to the apartment and the building, but not to personal possessions.
