I have lived here in two different apartments since 2009. The Maintenance staff that I have had the pleasure to get to know over the years are knowledgeable, courteous and very professional. The Lakes Maintenance staff responds expediently to any issue I may have. Today, I would like to address my most recent experience with ADRIAN (my first encounter with him). He responded to my call within ten minutes. Although my maintenance call was specifically for one electrical problem, I asked him if he could correct another electrical issue. He readily agreed and took the time to explain what had caused the problems and how he was going to correct them. Kudos to the Lakes for hiring young and talented people such as ADRIAN!

My best friend and her roommate live here, you get one parking pass per person, your guests? FORGET IT! They have a towing company on standby all day and guests cars can only park along the fence, otherwise you’re towed in .2 seconds. The fence is not long at all, so basically expect to never have company over. The doors to get inside the actual complexes are broken so the buzzers are useless, anyone can walk in. Dog poop everywhere. This place just cares about getting paid, they don’t care.

We hope you'll understand that our Residents are our top priority at The Lakes At 8201. Which is why we have a strict Guest Parking policy in place; to ensure our Residents have adequate parking. We believe one Parking Pass per Leaseholder is quite fair. Apartment living is shared living, which unfortunately means you won't have all the perks of living in a private home, including ample parking for your guests. We encourage our Residents to call the Leasing Office if they are planning a get-together or a celebration.
This apartment was great when I moved in but progressive got worst. I experience rats,leaking water, no air conditioning or heat all in a matter of months. Management was completely horrible at communication and was rude often. Save your money and stay somewhere worth the money.

I moved in January of 2019 . So far it has been cars blown up a total of 8 . 2 cars destroyed by vandalism . The tow company comes and picks up my company cars . I have them a total of 942 for her car THREE TIMES and she was only here for a couple of hours . The walls are so thin I can here the people talking, baby’s crying and kids running around playing from the up stairs . Every Sunday they play Sunday service loud so I’m glad I don’t miss that .The people up stairs didn’t turn there air conditioning on right so I woke up to my furnace closet leaking like it was raining inside my home . In the winter my bedroom floor gets soaking wet from the outside . And the property staff are unorganized BAD ! Keep all your receipts because they will definitely say you didn’t pay for something and you did ! I hate it here . I have been wanting to move out since the first day I moved in ! Not to mention that if you come home late you won’t be able to find any park .

I’ve been living at the lakes since December 2017 and it has increasingly gotten worse. Kyla was one of the best staff members The Lakes had. Very knowledgeable and helpful. They allowed the racist property manager to fire her (and yes I say racist with excess because instead of firing Ms. Stephanie for her racist comments toward her staff members they sent her to Ohio for training)This property has no property manager to be completely honest. Stephanie is incompetent. She hired a bootleg cleaning service to maintain these buildings. I watched them walk into 2 buildings within an 8 minute time period. There is no way you can EFFECTIVELY clean a 3 story building in 4 minutes. I complained about cleanliness and sent SEVERAL emails WITH pictures to the incompetent property manager and the corporate team. The cleaning crew cleaned ONE TIME after I sent the emails and went back to their disgusting ways. Even the staff in the office including Rosie said she has mentioned the cleaning crews nasty habits but they are still getting paid.... To do nothing. A tenant brought roaches into one of the apartments. The roaches were dealt with immediately but it’s scary knowing the kind of people you are living around are filthy. The maintenance crew is lazy. The only maintenance workers who actually WORK is Ed and the Caucasian lady. I feel like the biggest reason these buildings are deteriorating the way they are is because of the property manager not managing the property. They are selling units that are not properly maintained because maintenance half does their job. I feel like their goal is to sell as opposed to making sure these buildings are up to par. I wish I was allowed to upload pictures so people can see how filthy these buildings really are. Your best bet would be to seek something better especially if you have little children because they also do nothing about the weed smokers. The buildings share ventilation so if someone is smoking pot you will smell it as if they are smoking it in your unit. There is so much wrong that it’s hard to compliment anyone here. I have zero tolerance for people getting paid NOT to do the jobs THEY applied for and I would’ve hoped the corporate team would to. They keep switching management companies for a reason. The root of the problem is the staff. Want to fix the problem? Fix the SOURCE! Fix the reason that these buildings are not being managed well because the VALUE of these units are not worth what we as tenants are paying.

I moved into the lakes in August 2018. During my showing, Latoya failed to mention that the doors in my future apartment wouldn’t close all the way. Me, none the wiser, failed to check this for myself, as most would assume a shown property to be fully functional. My naivity came back to bite me when I noticed the problem & contacted the front office. They told me it was a known issue with the entire building & they were trying to resolve this with contractors. Three months went by with no resolution and I asked again. I received the same response except now they were irritated. As of right now I’ve been living here for 7 months without the slightest indication that things will be resolved. I am effectively paying for something below my expectations & not what I thought I was agreeing to. These people will TRICK you into signing a binding legal document. Never have I lived in a place where the staff is so eager to intrude on your privacy. Maintenance will be watching to tag you with excess fee’s & fines & might even show up at 2 AM while you’re in the middle of sleep to bang on your door without a form of identification. The absolute worst. Don’t move here

I have been a resident of the Lakes @ 8201 Apartments almost three years. Kyla was the agent who processed my application-very professional, friendly, professional and knowledgable. The managers, mantience crew and staff are awesome as well. I love my apartment and the community as well. Lawns are exceptionally beautiful. Snow removal thumbs up. Very prompt with maintenance calls.

My boyfriend and I were shown various units by Hannah from the leasing office. She was really great - not pushy, but informative and extremely professional - just a nice person overall. She worked with us from putting our leasing deposit down and then got the lease approved and we were able to sign and get in THE NEXT DAY. I haven't had any issues so far within the month we've been in our new place. Roger from maintenance is very sweet and good at his job as well. Overall, I love living here so far and am extremely happy with the decision to move into this apartment community.

I lived here almost 3 months and i like it. Staff is real nice and helpful. The community is pretty quiet. Apartments are really pretty and spacious, great features and closet space. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because there is SO MUCH geese poop by the ponds that you can't enjoy the grassy area, especially if you have a first floor lake view apartment. So i would take that into consideration. I would reccomend a 2nd or 3rd floor lake view apartment because its nice to sit outside and look at the water.

Though my stay at the Lakes was short, it was a pleasant stay. The balconies are large and spacious and the lake views are beautiful. The apartments are really nice and spacious. The only confusing thing would be the pricing on the units. They dont have set prices here, it all depends on what date you’re willing to move in on.

I am currently residing here and have a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom upgraded unit. I have lived here for a almost a year now and It is a avereage apartment at best. If you are not home by 8pm, you will not find a parking spot near your apartment and will have to park up to a block away (Which results in multiple residents parking in Fire lanes). I have also made Multiple maintenance request, which said were completed but not one has been fixed since I've moved in. Even had a request for a running toilet completed where they came out and made the situation worse where both toilets now run. Windows and Sliding Patio doors are old and make your Nipsco bill over $100 for the winter. Other than these problems, its quiet and a very convenient location. I do not see myself renewing my lease until I can see some improvement.
We moved in over the summer. Loved our apartment and building. Now however the smell of weed coming from the common hallway seeps into the apartment making it extremely difficult to breathe on oxygen. Chunks of ceiling paint are peeling in that hallway. Also cigarette butts are ground into the floor in the building. The office doesn't care at all. They don't do anything.

I can only give this place three stars because my family and I are being totally inconvenienced. I have not lived here a year yet, and I love my apartment, I love my building, my neighbors, and the maintenance crew responds quickly, but I don't know if I will renew my lease. Someone had the BRIGHT IDEA to put hardwood floors on the second and third floors which was a very very BAD IDEA. The noise and the sounds that you hear constantly are unbearable. So, if you decide to move here please make sure that the apartment above you DOES NOT have HARDWOOD FLOORS.
I moved in approximately 9 months ago, despite many negative reviews. I absolutely loved the setting and location of the property! I wanted a large upgraded 2 bedroom apartment and other community sizes and finishes didn't compare. Upon moving in, there were some small issues, however, the management staff, Cyndi, Latoya and Amber were extremely helpful in getting all issues resolved. The maintenance staff responded quickly and have been very helpful and professional. I would highly recommend The Lakes and now have one of my best friends living here as well, not to mention getting a rental referral fee of $300.
I have lived in Streamwood now the Lakes almost a year now. From the day I moved in I've had issues and problems with the apartment: nonworking appliances, cabinetry off hinges, unfinished work in the bathrooms and malfunctioning heat ( just to name a few). I have contacted management and the corporate office-NO RESPONSE ! It's been almost a year now and these problems still have not been repaired. Unfortunately, I've fixed a few of these things myself due to my background but it should not be my responsibility considering this is why I pay them rent. The issues and problems that I fixed I didn't bother to mention. I have spoken with several neighbors who have expressed the same concerns. Many have already chosen to move out and others say they are planning to leave when their leases are up. Basically, "if you don't live in a newly remodeled apartment you will be put on hold if your servicef at all". Quoted by one of the staff members. Is this enough information for you ?
I would STRONGLY advise you to reconsider renting here. This was formerly named Summerwood Apartments. I've had a litany of nightmare situations that happened while renting there. I've experienced numerous floods in my apartment. Both maintenance and management were slow to respond and the problem was never resolved. The installation of the washer dryer unit never happened, even though they cut a huge hole in my ceiling and left it untouched. I moved out in August and the hole was still there...nearly two months. It's now been two months and I still haven't received my deposit yet they took the time to send me a letter saying I owed a negative amount and failure to pay will result in my account b being given to a collection agency. The front office. .... unprofessional and in need of much training.
The staff at the Lakes formally known as Summerwood are very nice and hard working. I like living here but rent free for life sounds to good to be true. We have a pool and a recently built work out center. The grounds are upgraded and kept neat.
I love my completely remodeled 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment! Hardwood floors, new appliances, countertops, bathtub surround...all georgous! Quiet neighborhood, pleasant office staff. The new playground, pool, fitness center, and clubhouse make living here perfect for me and my children.
These apartments have been in Merrillville for a while now, beautiful view of ponds right out the bedroom window, perfect location near the highway, grocery & retail locations. Really great community!
I love this apartment it's very spacious and roomy. The cleaning staff always have the halls smelling great and clean. Management has been amazing.
