Property Ratings at Excelsior & Grand
The staff at Excelsior and Grand are the best! I cant stress how much I appreciate all they do for the residents. They are so hands on... The activities are a great way to meet others in your community. They continue to upgrade these apartment buildings which is appreciated.
Our family needed a place to stay here while we remodel our home. Marie and Meagan are nice women to work with, and receptive and accomodating. They helped us get furniture through Cort. Cort set up our place in l5 minutes! It was great! The area is quiet (we live on 4th floor) and the people around me couldn't be nicer! I love that we have a mix of little kids, older generation of people and middle age people living around us. It is nice. I also like living next to Kindercare. Hearing cute little voices throughout my day is nice and assuring. The fireplace is very nice and warms up our place fast. Management has come to fix things and has done a great job. Marie and Meagan have helped our family to make a transition into a home and have been receptive, warm and just nice ladies. I appreciate that as moving is stressful. Thank you!
The management team wants to take your money as soon as they can. DO NOT BOTHER TOURING THE WILL GET YOU TO SIGN A LEASE BY DISGUISING IT AS A PRE-LEASE AGREEMENT
The management and maintenance is unreliable. I’ve had issues with my apartment that have not been fixed after multiple attempts. The apartments are incredibly overpriced for the quality.
We asked them to sub-lease an apartment months in advance. They said no one has tried to rent the apartment. When you call them on the phone, they said no apartments are available. Legally they are required to attempt to rent the apartment in “good faith”. Clearly they don’t have the ability to uphold their end of a contract. They want $18,000 US dollars to get out of a lease. So if you sign a lease here, don’t plan on getting a job out of state during that time. I would provide Excelsior and Grand as well as the ownership organization “The Connor Group” a star rating with a negative number if possible.
Management is terrible. They don’t tell you when they’re going to charge you more and they keep finding ways to charge you more money! Don’t move here!!!!
We made a reservation on the call because we were interested in their 1 or 2 bedroom units and then we went to a leasing office for a tour. They showed up 5 mins late. They interviewed us for 20 mins for what features we were looking for. Then, they made us wait for another 5 mins and then told us there are not any available units for us even though other people were still being offered for a tour. I didn't think that statement was true but well I didn't want to live there anymore either so I gave up. They wasted us to come their office and lied to us because apparently there are many available units even for now which is one month later from then.
I have been here for over a month and my experience has been so stressful and disappointing. Its not a luxury apartment. Everything is outdated. My apartment wasn't ready to move into because so many repairs were needed. Upon moving in I immediately noticed a crack going across the entire bathroom sink. I notified them as soon as I saw it and they didn't care to respond or check it out. Well I did their job for them and checked it out and it was leaking. After sealing it from the bottom I asked for a replacement sink. No response. And we have a lovely broken sink. I have stepped on exposed nails in the carpet. The shower stall. Unusable. Grimmy and frosted with hard water stains. They will not tell me what they will do for me. I asked for a replacement and they said they didn't know where to start to get one. All the showers come with outdated hardware. Looks like its from 1990. The fridge stopped working and our food spoiled 2 weeks into living here. They didn't compensate us for spoiled food and the repair left a high pitched ringing tone that has been on for hours everyday. They tried to fix it but can't locate the issue and remind me repeatedly that fridges hum. I know fridges hum............. this is a skreech. I still am living with it with no resolve. They lied to us about dog breed restrictions before moving in so our adoption for a dog fell through after they called the apartment. I can go on and on. I feel like I am contacting them every other day to ask them to fix this place up. I'm tired and I want to live in peace and get what I paid for. If you like nice places, with good water and updated looks, and no maintenance issues upon moving in, This is not the place for you.
This is the most poorly run apartment complex I have ever experienced. The "luxury apartment" tagline is a joke. Paint is dirty, light fixtures in common areas have fallen down and are left un-repaired, carpet and furnishing in common areas hasn't been updated since the 80's. The maintenance staff turned over COMPLETELY -- TWICE in the year I worked there. I went two months in the hottest part of the summer without air conditioning and zero willingness to take accountability or reimburse me. Front office had complete turnover also. Not for the better. You can find a much better deal in the neighborhood. Be warned.
Agree with other disgruntled renters. This place is out to make a profit with no consideration of its renters. It's a hot mess and lots of hidden fees. You will be mad at yourself if you choose this place.
Listen to the bad reviews, we lived here for 2 years because of the location. We had leaks in the ceiling of my closet, the ceiling never fixed and the damage I cleaned up by myself. The bathrooms are dated, walls paper thin. There was a drug bust two doors from our apartment and I heard the commotion contacted the front office and they said we will look into it. They never eased my worry by saying the police have been contacted, so I stayed up all night. It took them over 6 months to replace the door even after new tenants and they only replaced it after I moved. There are often drunk people in the foyer. Maintenance is horrible, my smoke detector needed batteries and I'm still waiting for them, the front desk told me to put it in the freezer. I moved out 6 months ago and still waiting for my deposit back I've contacted them via email and several phone calls and still nothing.
Management is absolutely terrible. Completely unorganized in every aspect. The apartments are NOT luxury. I had up to 6 leaks in my ceiling and I didn't even live on top floor. They raise your rent by 500/month yearly. Maintenance - TERRIBLE. Excelsior & Grand and the Connor Group are unable to tell the truth. They should be reported to the BBB.
DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE. This place needed a ton of maintenance, and they even charged me double rent one month and blamed the app that they built. It’s more expensive than they say and everything they pretend to offer is beyond subpar. Please don’t my mistake. Rent out a used cardboard box. It will be more honest than these people.
This is the second apartment I've rented that is managed by the Connor Group - they do a great job and are very responsive. Property is very well kept & the pool/underground parking/fitness center are perks
I loved Uptown....however it is so nice to be treated as a Customer and with kindness and respect! The Conner Group appears to have trained their Staff that the RESIDENTS are not just "RENTERS"! This my HOME and I appreciate that they treat us as RESIDENTS and Neighbors. The Common Area and the Grounds on the Property are keep up very well....flowers are planted....and can't wait for pool season. The location is super and Wolfe Park is an amazing park and place to walk my dog. Couldn't be happier!
I have lived at Excelsior and Grand for 4 1/2 years and I couldn't be happier. The location is fantastic and everything is in walking distance. The staff is super friendly and always willing to help! Annabelle and Amanda are always so helpful.I can't imagine living anywhere else!
We recently moved back home to MN and needed a place to rent until we could our feet on the ground. We had toured Excelsior & Grand and we liked it, plus we really enjoyed Mikala, one of the front office staff who showed us around. Fortunately, Mikala stayed in touch and in the end, we chose E&G over a couple other properties. Thus far, we've enjoyed living here. The amenities are good, including the gym, which is fantastic. I appreciate that they do a daily cleaning of the grounds, the other tenants seem nice and we REALLY love the area in terms of getting around the Twin Cities area. Is apartment living 100% ideal all the time? Probably not, but E&G makes it as close to be 100% excellent in every way they can.
This location is superb. We love the city but didn't really want to live in Minneapolis proper. We had toured these apartments first, then looked at others. Mickala is a queen of follow up and knew we would be a good fit here and she and the staff worked their magic so that we could have our 2 bedrooms, and room for our dining room table and have a balcony. All, if a no go, were deal breakers. We are grateful for being in this neighborhood (can walk to anything we need, even in the cold, grateful for the heated garage and grateful for the staff. Thank team!
We recently relocated from Chicago and had no clue where to live in the Minneapolis area. We researched apartments on line at Apartments.com. E&G looked interesting so we did the tour and signed a 1 year lease. Now, after being here almost 1 year, what do we think of our decision? Pretty lucky to have found it! Our 2 bedroom, 2 bath has enough space to support our daily living as well as accommodate our in-town visitors for overnight stays. We had 1 issue with a toilet handle malfunction but the staff quickly took care of it. We always could use the gym whenever we wanted to use it. The common areas were always clean. The outdoor space remodel turned out to be exceptional. The location is convenient for everything you need on a daily basis as well as easy access to Wolf Park and the bike trail to get some exercise. We often went to experience the nightlife in Uptown and enjoy Lake Calhoun...but then appreciated coming back to E&G to relax. The staff was friendly and helpful on day 1 as you would expect, but they were friendly and helpful every time we saw them. We recently built a house and will be moving out...but we will miss E&G.
I've only recently moved into Excelsior & Grand but am loving it all. This place has literally everything you need on a day to day basis and the community spirit is obvious. I was dealing with Mickala from the beginning and can't rate her high enough as she's made everything so much easier.
Worst management company I've ever interacted with. Staff is very unprofessional, slow to respond, and at times lacks integrity and honesty. I would never recommend someone to live in these apartments. Way too expensive and you are not treated well by staff.
The building lacks some modern amenities such as high speed elevators, ceiling fixtures, ice maker, etc. The showers and blinds are a little dated, but everything else about the units are of high quality. It's a bummer that the pool is outdoor and only open for limited hours during the summer, but the area is beautiful place to spend a sunny afternoon. Staff has been helpful and friendly, neighbors are kind and quiet. Overall, they offer spacious, well-maintained apartments.
I started living at Excelsior and Grand 3 years ago during the summers in between college years with my parents. Once I graduated I liked it so much that I decided to rent a place with a roommate. I think the staff are excellent and are quick to respond to questions or requests. The units are upgraded and look great. My parents have lived in 3 different units, all which were well maintained. I currently live in a two bedroom. I also have a dog and they are very pet friendly. With Wolfe park across the street there are plenty of places to walk my dog. Wolfe park also hosts events every now and then which are fun to attend. 99.9% of the residents are very nice and friendly. Having lived in multiple buildings throughout the years I can confidently say this about each building. I have never had issues with noise at anytime of the day/night. I am a nurse who occasionally works nights and sleeps during the day and have never had an issue. The location is prime only being 5 minutes from uptown and a short distance from highway 100. The convenience of starbucks and mccoys is also great. Parking is never an issue with the free parking ramp. My visitors never have to worry about parking which is a relief. The area is very safe and I have never felt unsafe. The amenities have all been newly updated from the work out room to the pool patio furniture and grills. They are also planning many more updates from new hallway carpet to a dog park! I would absolutely recommend Excelsior and Grand to anyone who is interested!
We are recurring renters at Excelsior and Grand. The fact that we keep coming back is a testament to how well we like it here. There are many reasons for that, including the upkeep of the property, the community atmosphere, and the location. In addition, we find the business and maintenance staffs to be extremely friendly and responsive to our needs. The proximity to grocery stores, Target, CVS, specialty shops, and anything else you need on a daily basis makes the location desirable, plus it's a short drive to downtown Minneapolis, 50th and France, The Galleria, and other attractive destinations.
We have been tenants for the past 2 years and have found it to be a great experience. We have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit, and it has truly met our needs. We have had a very good relationship with the staff personnel and have found them to be quite responsive to inquiries and requests. We also have had fast and complete response to the few maintenance needs. The location is ideal for us for most all of our shopping needs, most of which can be reached by walking. Other needs to drive are very doable, with 2 of our children and families nearby.
At this point after one the office staff has been helpful as asked. I informed of some of door not being secure. I think the maintenance should review the operation frequently. As of this morning I had to pick up cigarette butts on the patio. I suspect there were dropped from above. People need to be ore courteous, but that issue is anywhere. The biggest issue issue is performance on internet using wifi and ATT services, There error rate causes many restarts, Jitterbug and there provider did not work in the apartment. There is noise in our apartment that needs to investigated as to cause. The inspector and repairs could have been done before move in. Items were found that did not function as expected. As everywhere let renter beware.
I recently moved to Excelsior& Grand luxury apartments. I enjoy staying here. For starters they are a pet friendly place. A park is located right behind my building so it's very convient to take my dog for walks. He loves it. It's also very well kept and clean. With free parking available and a parking garage for residents that's heated, so not having to wipe snow off your car, truly helps in the morning. The only con, but It's not to bad is that you have to go to the main building to pick up packages the bright side of that you get to see the friendly staff they energy is so positive and wonderful. The gym is also very well put together and spacious. Lastly so many shops in walking distance it's very convenient. I'd totally recommend this place to all.
I currently live here and I have to say the reason there are even 2 stars is the amenities and layout of my place. Otherwise the reason for the missing 3 other stars is the staff and their in ability to respond to any request period. We moved in because we are a young professional couple and saw that there were others like us in these buildings. Little did we know a month later we had a family of elephants move in above us who like to let their small child (less than 4 years old) run around and scream until about 2 am playing and bouncing their toys off the floor. It is so bad we can here it from the first and second level of our apartment and they too have a two story unit. The office has been contacted 3 times in the past week begging to address this with the neighbors and at least let us know they got the message AND... Nothing! No acknowledgement of even receiving a phone call or email. I should have realized something was up when we moved in. The moment we got the keys it was like the girl in the office closed up shop and took off. We had left a voicemail about getting a possible elevator key so our furniture wouldn't get marked up and the phone went straight to voicemail and I never received a call back. Don't even get me started on misspelling of our last names, I am not sure if maybe they just can't read what is on the printed lease or they don't care to even try. Maybe if they change the management we will continue our lease but at this rate I think we would have to put a missing persons report in to even find someone that works there. I wouldn't even be surprised if when this posts I finally get an email acknowledging that they got my voicemail from a week ago. But not that they asked the neighbors to kindly parent their child and realize they are in an apartment building not a house. Bottom line one of the worse management companies I have ever dealt with. I am not even sure management knows the meaning of quiet enjoyment. Rent at your own risk.
Excelsior and Grand Apartments in St. Louis Park, MN are precisely what their name alludes to. Coming out of college into the world of the young professional, never would I have imagined living 'grandly' off the bat. Yet, for an affordable rental price, I get to live like a king. E&G, as I've come to call my new home, has everything you'd want and more. Whether you're just starting your adult life like I am, taking care of a brand new family, or settling in with your lifelong partner (like the marvelous older couple from down the hall), the location, surroundings, people, and facility of this place will leave you living as happy a life as you've always imagined. The buildings here literally sit directly south of Wolfe Park where there are playgrounds and a platform to feed ducks for the kids, tons of perfect picnic places, beautifully scened, intertwining walking/biking paths (including a very cool raised, wooden walkway through the trees), a fishing dock, basketball court, amphitheater, an incredibly harrowing Veterans' Memorial, among much more. If you commute by bike, just cut through the park, head a short ways down the Belt Line, and you can hook up to the Cedar Lake Trail/Midtown Greenway that takes you all over the Twin Cities. During busy traffic times, I've biked to my friends house in dinkytown in half the time it would take me to drive, plus it makes easy to take in several od the attraction scenic points in our city. The Midtown Greenway is the cyclists dream and is so, so easily accessible to residents of Excelsior & Grand. My favorite area to grab some food or a drink is Uptown, and whether on your bike, in your car, or even on foot, it's just not that far away from the apartment. If you're not feeling like going the distance, then McCoy's Public House is right downstairs. McCoy's has been the restaurant/bar I've dreamed about living above since the cast from the TV Show 'How I Met Your Mother' convinced me that living above a bar was a great thing to experience. The food is amazing and their tap-beer list stays fairly local, which in the Twin Cities is NOT a bad thing at all. Although the pool doesn't fit a huge number of swimmers at one time, there always seems to be the opportunity to jump in and cool off on hot summer days. The workout facility is crazy modern and actually got me to start working out consistently for the first time in my life. I'm out of room in the textbox to describe how amazing this residence is so come sign a lease!
I have lived at Excelsior & Grand since 2008. It has been a great experience. The location is ideal; the buildings are clean; the amenities are nice; and the pricing and apartment layouts are competitive to similar properties in the market. Don't let a few crabby tenants steer you away from this property - experience it yourself!
Excelsior & Grand is the epitome of a pretty oasis-turned-ugly mirage in a desert. While it appears like a luxury condo with lots to offer, it really is an over-priced condo, with amenities rarely available to tenants, and an rude and poorly managed staff. I signed a year-long lease and after 9 months of living at this location, I have experirenced the following: - neighbors who consistently complain when tv/music are playing at (any level) during the day - staff who barely have time to look up from facebook to truly answer a question or deal with an issue, and upper management responds by shutting their door in your face - amenities (e.g. pool, grills, gym, whirlpool) that are either closed early for no explanation or not working--with no sign of when they will be fixed The only thing good about this apartment complex is the location and parking. Don't be fooled by the 'nice' tour. Stay away!
