$1,000 Move In Special on Select Units! For over 100 years the iconic Fireproof building has been a staple of the Short North. The flagship building was constructed in 1909 and gave Fireproof Warehouse and Storage their first permanent home. At that time, the company stored heirlooms, furs, and other goods for the residents of Columbus. Horse-drawn carriages carried these items to and from the storage facility. Over the years, Fireproof was able to expand their capabilities, until 1974 when Edward James transformed Fireproof into Ohio’s first full-service off-site records management company. Today, the files (both paper and digital) are stored in a new facility in Grove City. The building has been converted into luxury apartments that feature spacious and unique floor plans.

When you're standing on North High Street, beneath one of the street's arches and looking at the historic buildings that contain some of Columbus’ best art galleries, boutiques, pubs, cafes, and restaurants, you'll know you've discovered someplace special. This is Short North, the city's fun, funky arts district. Renting an apartment in Short North is an adventure, where you can choose from an array of historic apartment buildings, distinctive rowhouses, or brand-new condos.
Short North is located just south of Ohio State University, the nation's third-largest university. If you are going to live in Short North, be prepared to be surrounded by all things Buckeye. The OSU Buckeyes are part of the Big Ten Conference, and they are one of just five universities to have won national championships in all men's sports (football, basketball, and baseball).

Property Ratings at Fireproof
Rent starts about $100 higher than listed. Renewals are a ridiculous 8-10%. My unit came with torn up carpet and dog hair everywhere from the previous tenant. Car break ins are common. Other residents are incredibly loud and inconsiderate. Management is bloody useless. Often times they will just not show up, or leave whenever they feel like it, even though they have scheduled hours. One time I was attacked by a tenants dog who wasn’t on a lease. It took them 3 months to send out an email reminding pet owners to use a leash. The woman who currently runs the front desk is useless. Go literally anywhere else that’s not an Elford property. I’m warning you.
Is the location amazing? Of course. Is it beautifully finished? Yes. The management, however… was another story. I was one of the first tenants to move into this complex after they’d been converted to apartments, so maybe things are going better now. One thing that really drew me Fireproof was the security features of the building- you can’t even come in the lobby without a fob (except for office hours). My apartment, as well as several of my neighbors, was robbed early one morning. The fire alarm was pulled, so we all evacuated thinking it was an emergency, not thinking to lock our doors. Several hundred dollars worth of electronics. I immediately contacted the police as well as the building manager and filed a report. The building manager did not get in touch with me for SIX days, after emailing her 4 times saying that the police department needed access to the security footage in order to move forward. She only contacted me after the police department contacted her directly. She apologized and said that she’d read my emails and assumed it was probably just a friend of mine playing a prank on me… what does that even mean? How incredibly unprofessional, and frankly, offensive. I’m assuming I was treated this way because I was in my early 20s, but if I’m paying to live there I should be treated with the same respect as any other tenant. It’s also worth noting that my neighbor was in a wheelchair and we were lived on the third floor. During the “emergency”, there was no equipment in order for her to safely evacuate and that she eventually was carried down the stairs by another tenant who was in great shape and able to carry another adult down three flights of stairs. This place is beautiful, and the location was amazing, but if the management is anything like it was during my lease… it’s a hard pass.
Location location location! Wonderful property manager & staff as well current residents. Tons of bars/restaurants/shops/galleries all within walking distance. Surprisingly quiet inside on such a busy street. Loft style apartments are tastefully done. Balcony facing High Street in Short North lends itself to awesome people watching. There's always something to do! And they accept large dogs! We found a hidden gem within Columbus!
