When the first settlers arrived around 1817, they named their new community after the one they'd left behind in New York -- Rochester. Located about 25 miles north of Downtown Detroit, Rochester is a vibrant city with beautiful parks, charming neighborhoods, and a delightful downtown that attracts visitors from all over the region. The city sits about four miles east of Oakland University, a large school with a 1,443-acre campus.
Resembling an Old West town with plenty of false-front architecture, Downtown Rochester contains a wide selection of shops and restaurants. Browse the antique stores, gift shops, and art galleries and then stop for coffee at one of the cafes. In the evening, try one of the many restaurants or stop in at a tavern or pub. The Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market takes place on Saturdays, May through October. Other downtown events include Music in the Park, the Art & Apples Festival, and the Heritage Festival.

Property Ratings at Forest Ridge Apartments
We’ve been here since 2021 with many improvements—new carports, landscaping…caring management & maintenance. Also a lot of the post-pandemic slackers have moved on and we are seeing more families moving in with little ones, bringing a nice community feel to the apartments— so if you’re looking for a party place it’s probably not for you.
The combination of price/quality/location is impossible to beat in the area. Knocked off one star because there aren't any designated pet waste stations with bags and/or bins, which leads to a lot of dog waste laying around.
I have been here a year now and I love it! The apartments are updated and roomy and they get a lot of light. The area is beautiful and it’s great being so close to downtown Rochester. My neighbors are quiet and everyone here is so nice. I’ve never had a problem with bugs as one of the reviews mentioned. Maintenance is very quick to respond, usually the same day or the next day at the very latest. I had to call emergency maintenance once on a Saturday and he was out within an hour. Sadly, I am leaving because I am moving out of state but I would definitely renew my lease if it weren’t for that.
Location is pretty, walking distance to everywhere in Rochester and the surrounding area is nice and quiet. The biggest problem is the apt itself: old, sometimes with bugs problems, and noisy. I lived in a second floor apartment and bedtime became my nightmare since the guy upstairs just kept talking on the phone and walking in his house till 3-4am. My wife and I went sleeping in the car sometimes... it's a shame, also because you don't get any support from the managers.
Clean, quiet, great price. Friendly and helpful staff, good maintenance. Many of the units have a window in the bathroom and and two in the bedroom, from different directions. My unit had brand new cabinets, good carpeting. Great location, close to downtown and walking distance to Clinton River Trail, Rochester Municipal Park and Harding Green Space.
I just moved in recently and I have nothing bad to say about this place!! My apartment is so nice and clean and the neighborhood is beautiful. Rebecca in the leasing office is such a rockstar and made my move in process so incredibly easy. I’m thankful I chose Forest Ridge!!
I have been here for a few weeks and have nothing but good things to say! Rebecca in the leasing office is absolutely wonderful. I needed to move in within a short timeframe and she made it happen. The one bedroom one bathroom units are fairly spacious and the extra storage unit is an added perk. Maintenance is quick to respond to maintenance request (within a day or two). Downtown is only a few blocks away and the surrounding community is very quiet. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a safe, quiet apartment with access to downtown.
Never had any problems. I loved living here! Great location- can walk anywhere downtown. Staff is very nice and responsive! I would live here again if I was staying in Rochester.
All the apartments are updated which is great! They are pretty big for one person and pretty affordable for the area. Even better for 2 people. The only thing is that I think the kitchen is pretty small, but I like to cook and need space. The property manager (Kate) is great! Also, they do 6 month leases but you have to pay $50 more per month.
The location is probably the only good thing about Forest Ridge. I would say the price, but since they have put in their "renovated" units its not worth it. The office hours for the lease office are awful and half the time you go they just aren't there because they left early. Also they're in the dark ages and you have to physically pay rent through check or money order. They have a ton of projects going on and they never seem to finish within the timeframe that they say. Plus we always seemed to have a bug problem flies, ants, etc. Not worth the money since they jacked up the prices.
Great neighborhood. Buildings are constantly being updated and are within walking distance to downtown. I'm very happy.
