Property Ratings at Fox Plaza
There are just so many problems here. Unchecked package thieves, elevators constantly out of service, inspectors entering your apt and leaving it fully unlocked when they leave, leasing office doing absolutely nothing about notoriously problematic tenants until they've literally burned their apartment down (and irrevocably damaged everyone else's via flooding while putting out said fire). To top it off, when this occurred, Fox Plaza did not even care to notify affected (or potentially affected) tenants. Meaning that if you were out, you may come home to an an absolutely wrecked apartment without warning. Completely unacceptable.

I just moved into a 2-bedroom apartment at Fox Plaza about a month ago. Though it hasn't been that long, I like the apartment/building so far. About the building: Hooray rent control! They recently remodeled the hallways before I moved in (apparently they were terrible before) so the aesthetic of the older building has gone up. The security and leasing office staff are extremely nice and accommodating. The office has a package room where you can receive and pick up packages 24/7, so it was very convenient for me, having moved here from across the country and shipped most of my belongings. There is a laundry room in the building, but the number of machines is not proportional to the number of apartments, so timing is tricky. There is also a fitness room, and changes are going to be made sometime this year regarding expanding/moving the fitness and laundry rooms. About the apartment: There are only 15 2-bedroom apartments in the building; one on each floor. My particular apartment was remodeled by the previous owners (Archstone) in 2013 so it was not upgraded this year, like some other apartments in the buildings were by Essex, with stainless steel appliances. Even so, the apartment is still great: white cabinetry and walls, hardwood floor throughout, and balconies off the living room and bedrooms – meaning two views out of different sides of the building (look at a floor plan to see what I'm talking about). Overall, sounds are contained within the apartment. I've only ever heard noise when people are standing outside our front door or close by. I can't even hear much from the living room when I'm in my bedroom. The bathroom is not spacious like the rest of the apartment, but it isn't problematic. One con of the apartment is that the internet outlet (where you plug a modem) is in the corner of the living room, so signals reaching the bedrooms at the other end are relatively weak. We had to get a router and a bunch of cables to extend the signal.
This is a perfect apartment for me. I have been living here since 1993. I have moved out twice to another state , but each time came back with in a month to the same building. It is located in the middle of the city, has a great view of the Bay. Close to all kinds of transportation, restaurants, Museums, theatres. The apartment is very well kept, has good security. Staff is very helpful.
