Despite a similar name, St. Paul’s Lowertown is different from downtown in both location and character. While most residents know Downtown St. Paul as the entertainment hub of the city, Lowertown — its neighbor to the east — is developing a unique identity all its own.
Art galleries, restaurants, and local businesses are setting up shop in the warehouses and factories that put St. Paul on the map in the 20th century. Mears Park and the greenway along the Mississippi River provide much-need recreation space in this growing city. Residents of Lowertown enjoy a booming nightlife scene, as well as short commute times thanks to the interstates around the area.

Property Ratings at Galtier Towers
Management is extremely unreasonable, unresponsive, and management office has a constant turnover. It takes at least a week to get a response to an email (if you get a response at all) They also are extremely corporate, Assistant property manager said they said they are only able to send pre approved responses to emails(from the "Toolbox" provided by corporate) and they don't seem to respond unless the answer is in those emails. Staff is short with you unless its mindless chit-chat.... Also staff seems to put you on hold when your talking, nobody seems to have a straight answer without putting you on hold. (could be the turnover tho) The lease has over 300 pages of nit-picky rules including specific ways of doing EVERYTHING in regards to your apartment. They don't tell you about all the rules before you sign the lease. Also, the overall vibe amongst renters is that bigos is a horrible place to rent from, but we are all too broke or tired to move. The only good thing is the month-to-month lease. TLDR: RUNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!

After reading older reviews, I decided to put my two cents in. I live in Galtier Towers Apartments and have nothing but positive things to say. Move in day was actually a lot easier than I imagined (and other reviewers have stated). There was a huge designated spot to park our U-haul, and we went straight thru large freight doors into an elevator that brought us straight to the apartment (locked off too, so no-one else could use it). I have read OLD reviews that complained about renovations; well they are done now so there are no problems with that (beautiful granite countertops in kitchen, and all the amenities are quite luxurious). The rooftop pool and hot tub are rarely super busy, actually the only time I noticed more than 10-15 people is on 90 degree weekend days of the summer. The outdoor movie theater is really quite cool, and can be rented for free any night of the week (minus every other Wednesday when Jane, the concierge, sets up an awesome outdoor movie night!). The first movie was The Goonies and we had movie snacks, while the second movie was School of Rock and we had nachos! There is an awesome rooftop fire pit that requires ONE button to be pushed for instant relaxation. Parking is always somewhat of a hassle when you live anywhere downtown but Galtier has 4 levels of underground, heated and controlled access parking which is easily the nicest commercial parking garage I have ever entered. Galtier Towers also has one of the nicer gyms that we saw in all of our previous apartment tours. Multiple machines have TVs and the dumbbells go up to 50 lbs. Another nice thing about Galtier Towers is its location. It is next door to Mear's Park and TONS of restaurants and bars. It is also only a block from the green line and union depot, and 2 blocks from the Mississippi River and many bike trails. It is also super convenient for anyone who works DT St. Paul since it is part of the skywalk system! Many people like to come online to spew the bad things they went through, but rarely do people post the positives. Of course there will be problems that occur while living at an apartment, they happen everywhere! Shauna and Julian are the property manager and assistant property manager at Galtier and they truly do their best to keep all the residents safe and happy. I would highly recommend this to any of my friends. Don't knock this place because of bad reviews from years ago. It is a great place and I am happy to live here for the many years ahead.
Beautiful property with the most amenities of any apartments in DT St Paul. Great price for everything. Highly recommend!
I have been living here for a few months now and Samuel in the leasing office has always been extremely helpful and I am super grateful for his help. Josh is also very helpful as well. They genuinely want to make this a place to call home for you. The hallways and lounge area are always very clean and the apartment is always quiet. I work in the mornings so it is nice to not be woken up by loud noises at night. Everyone I have met in the elevator is always very friendly and polite. It's nice walking into the elevator to be greeted by a random person saying "good morning". I love my apartment and the secure garage is very convenient as well. I would recommend this place to anybody!
After reading some of the reviews on here, I feel I need to post my own. I personally have enjoyed by 2 year stay so far. It has had its up and downs, like stated I have had my thermostat leak, the rennovation project didn't go perfectly, and I feel like a better way of giving people notices regarding parking could be done. I feel the biggest place they could improve upon is their system of how they notify people of parking ramp updates, parking ramp cleanings, and other things involving the parking ramp. Right now they simply place a sheet of paper in all of the elevators explaining what is taking place. There have been times though were I have been on vacation for a week or more and didn't see these notices (As I had no reason to leave my apartment) until after the event had taken place, being lucky so far none of them have involved my car. I feel if you opt into the text message notifications, it should involve parking as well if you are renting a spot there, as I feel that would reach people better, especially if a reminder text was sent only an hour or so before the cleaning/upgrades to the ramp will start. As for the issues listed of the leaks and construction, I don't know what these people expected, it is construction and the thermostat leaks aren't a huge deal unless you don't catch them right away (in which case it could be a big deal). Don't get me wrong, the leaks shouldn't happen at all. The place though overall is really nice and they are constantly improving (example is the major remodernization they just went through with the whole building), I think people just focus on only a couple negatives when there could be so many more issues and from what I see, they are trying to fix all those issues they have come across. I would like to add two other things that have bugged me. One is the shopping carts all missing on weekends - I have been told it is from residents using them for personal reasons (and have seen this to be the case, as I have seen many residents use them for laundry...), and the second is the washers always seem to have 1-2 machines down on weekends. If those two problems were fixed I know I personally would enjoy my stay here more.
Galtier Towers is gorgeous!! They have done a great job at renovating every last inch of the two towers that you feel like you're at an upscale resort as soon as you walk in the door. The pool and lounge areas are great and are by far the best part of living here. Management is friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking for a high-end apartment at a reasonable price.
Beautiful structure and great community. Utilities are expensive, and have had many plumbing problems. Neighbors and the community is very respectful and welcoming.
The exercise room only has 3-4 machines, half of which don't work anymore. The AC units commonly leak large amounts of water into the carpets and create mold. Leasing agents and maintenance personal have been in my apartment every month with or without notice. The dates of construction projects to my unit were non negotiable - I had to take everything out of my closets, cupboards, and move all furniture twice during my year long lease. The first time was the week before christmas, the second I was caring for my elderly grandmother and there was sawdust and personel everywhere, and loud sawing sounds for hours. Someone in the leasing office made it very difficult for my hired moving men to move my belongings up to my unit in the allotted time I had them for. The windows have no screens on them and open up very wide, so curious pets and children can fall right out of the building which is very tall. You have to pay for access to the parking garage and do not get a designated spot. You have to drive around until you find something, and there is no option to ever have a guest visit you unless they want to pay $10-15 to park because there is no guest parking. I've been renting for over ten years and I've never been so constantly pestered, inconvenienced, and had my health threatened by sawdust, glue, and mold in the bathrooms and living room carpeting. Moving furniture in was a logistical nightmare as there is no place to park and they restrict your access to the building and elevator when you move in. I would never, ever move here again.
Property Manager at Galtier Towers, Responded To This Review
We are so disheartened to read your message, as you have made it clear that you have been disappointed living here. While most of our residents have been enjoying the upgrades to their homes, I understand that the experience of having workers in a space as intimate as your home can feel very intrusive. I believe you were planning to move, so knowing that you wouldn't be able to enjoy the upgrades must only add to the frustration. These have been a big couple of years with regards to upgrading our apartments and community, and we very much appreciate our residents' patience. We find most have felt good about the improvements being made to our homes. I am so sorry you did not have a good experience here, and I very much wish you the best in your new home. Yours, Julian, Assistant Property Manager
Until recently I thought this was a pretty good place to live. Great location, great neighbors, nice place. Hence the two stars and not one. Recently they've been upgrading the elevators. When I reported a problem with elevators I got some double talk from a representative from the management company about people moving and the like. When I explained that this was happening around 7 AM and 11-12 PM and that I was reporting it because this was my day off and the only time I could report it personally. Then came more double talk about calling the number and maintenance couldn't fix it because they are not the elevator people and it went on and on. I said I only wanted to report the problem I was having and that's all. The representative was so defensive about my reporting this issue that it bordered on rudeness. As a matter of fact, I left the management office commenting on that rudeness. As a side note - there were no signs or notices of elevators being used for moving (no notice on the elevators, no moving trucks parked outside my building, no furniture or boxes in their reserved moving area). Nor were there signs or notices about any of the elevators in my building being under construction. In the future management should accept a report of a problem for what it is and look into it. Simply put - "Thank you for reporting this - we'll look into it."

Thank you for your review. I am so sorry to hear you have been disappointed by our management. We are currently undergoing an elevator upgrade project in our Sibley Tower. The center car was returned to service a couple of weeks ago, and that first week was problematic. The issues have since been resolved. The problems were unanticipated and we had our elevator vendor here daily until they resolved the issue. We would have posted signs if we thought the problems were going to continue, but we had multiple incidents and emergency service was contacted each time to address the issue immediately. We will continue to undergo the elevator modernization project over the next seven months as the other two cars are upgraded. During this project, we are working to further minimize the time we lock off an elevator for moving, but we still want to make sure every resident is treated fairly during their move. Please know that we are very aware of any elevator issues and they do not go ignored. In fact, I live in same tower, and have for many years. I take your message your to heart and our team will revisit our efforts to make the process unobstructive for our residents. Thank you very much for choosing us. –Julian P., Assistant Property Manager
