Property Ratings at Gaslight Village
When I first moved to gaslight village my unit was extremely dirty. The floors had to be mopped 2 -3 depending on the room and there were mouse droppings underneath the stove .Things that a facetime tour(due to COVID and moving from different state) can't show you. I talked to the property manager about this and they said if you haven't seen a mouse ( even though I saw the mouse poop) then everything is good. Well I finally caught one. Second the dryer has been broken for over a month so it cost 5 dollars a load to dry clothes (my neighbors and I hate this) . They never respond to maintenance request unless you call and say it is and emergency . Like the emergency where the buildings plumbing went bad ,so I could use my own bathroom for most of the day. The cherry on on top it took 3 days during the winter before my heat was fixed even though I called during business hours on a Friday. This place is garbage
Do not rent here! The rental office is just basically garbage and not responsive at all. I called them since the first day I moved in about the unbelievable AC vibration downstairs. Basically there’s an AC in the laundry room downstairs and it starts up 6-7 AM in the morning and is extremely loud. Unless you like having your REM sleep interrupted everyday. I suggest you stay away. It took them over 2 months to finally tell me they can’t fix it, and they refuse to do anything about it. If I knew the AC can’t be fixed, I would look for a different place immediately. Next, whenever I call the manager and leave a voice message or leave a message to the staff there, she never calls back. I have to keep calling in until she eventually gets on the phone and answers it herself. Hard to reach and impossible to talk to. I left at least 10 repair requests. 1 our of the 10 requests are completed. The others I had to fix the stuff myself, or just try to mitigate. The only cabinet door that they fixed took them a month to send someone over. What a joke. The most important thing is the utilities. The tenants in the apartment use utilities like nobody’s business. If you use minimal utilities, then you will be forced to pay for other prople’s wasteful behaviors. I have to spend 3 times as much utilities as I had when I was renting in CA. Stay away from this place as far as possible. It’s terrible.
This place has had so many staff quit that I can’t even count. The first manager was never available and didn’t care about anything. I had a giant hole in my ceiling from a leak that was never fixed and the ac didn’t work all year. She never replied to emails or call and the new office person every week always pretended it was the first they heard of it and said maintenance would come but they didn’t. There was an awesome manager for a few months that fixed the problem, met with me in person, and cleaned up the hallways and evicted the drug dealers but she left and the new manager is worse than the 1st. No one answers the phone she never replies to emails and actually laughs at our problems. I heard her and the big maintenance guy talking about how they are ripping us off charging rent when they don’t plan to fix the AC anytime soon. They lie and say central air but it doesn’t work. If you contact corporate they just send you to the manager who DOESNT REPLY TO YOU.
Takes forever to do maintenance even to fix tiny problems. Not recommending.
If not for getting married and having to relocate closer to her workplace, Gaslight Village would have been our home for the next few years. In addition to a delightfully prompt manager and administrative staff, maintenance was also a pleasure to work with. Each time I had an issue, maintenance was prompt, respectful, and delightful. For those looking to rent a single bedroom, all 1 bdrm apartments are located half beneath ground which significantly reduced my utilities bill! I seldomly needed air conditioning or the heater since the apartment was extremely well insulated. My only complaint would be that because I was underground, I couldn't have a balcony, but I had laundry right next door. (They didn't place machines right one wall next to the bedroom, so there was no disturbance). Additionally, neighbors who are respectful will adhere to the "quiet hours" and no use laundry room when you expect to be sleeping. 10/10 would highly recommend for anyone looking to rent a spacious apartment at a great pricepoint! Not to mention, with a bus pass, you can get to the Commons and Cornell campus via the TCAT 32 which has a bus stop literally 30 seconds from the doorstep. Also, the carpet is amazing, and with each new tenant they completely replace the carpet!! You can't find anything more spacious and homey for such a great price! The day I moved out was truly a sad day.
