Property Ratings at Gatehouse Apartments
Tried to tour the apartments and the guard said I had to make an appointment. When I made an appointment online I received an email back from the girl but it was not to confirm but only ask about which apartments I was interested in. When I showed up for my appointment time they said they would call me to confirm. I received an email lying saying that their apartments are in high demand but their apartments have multiple available units. They are a joke.
The nightly security guard is terrible! He’s extremely rude and makes very nasty comments to guest going to certain apartments. Moved out a little while ago but besides that nice apartment.
2/5 ??. My family and I lived at gatehouse apartments for 2 years. We moved in sight-unseen from out of state based on the user reviews, which is why I’m taking the time to review now. Overall, I would say it was an ok place to live. The apartments are nice, but some of the reviews about moving out are accurate. For the amount of rent required to live here, I would say we were not getting what we paid for/what they advertise. Maintenance: Service was ok. Typically, they are fast to service a maintenance ticket, but that didn’t always mean fix the problem. Pest control: While pest control was performed, in the 2 years we lived there, we had termites in the walls every year. Carpets: This is a big one. Be fore warned when you move out, they expect to keep the carpet in the apartment regardless of the length of your tenancy. They will find a way to make you pay to replace them, regardless of how well you maintain them. Security: Between the hours of midnight and 6:00am - arguably the most important - the staffing is hit or miss. Pets: While claiming to be “pet friendly”, I’m going to go ahead and call this what it is - a lie. You can have pets. To have pets, you must pay $25 pet rent monthly. It’s the same if you have a large dog - which people do - or a small fully declawed tabby cat (adopted declawed). If I remember correctly, they stated this pet rent was to cover the complex’s expenses to maintain the various dog waste clean up stations throughout the complex (put in disposable waste bags, and empty the bins). So basically, if you own a cat, your paying for everyone else’s dogs. Facilities: The pools are nice. However, regardless of how many tenants you have in your apartment, you will only be allowed 2 guests per apartment. Parking: As stated by others, this is bad. You will have 1 assigned spot per unit, and allowed 2 registered vehicles for a 3 bedroom apartment. You have to find a guest spot for your second car. If you live near the office, you’ll have a little better luck with that. Wiring/utilities: We learned the hard way after blowing up 4 modems, 2 routers, a sound bar, and a laptop that the building we lived in had some wiring issues, likely bad grounding (electrician’s words, not mine).
Been here for a year. Will get every penny they can out of you when you vacate. Parking situation is horrendous. Pest control will walk into your apartment quarterly without knocking so don't leave your significant other home alone. It's an glorified old folks home and 24/7 security is a sham. Constant struggles to keep the gate manned.
A hand picked Staff by the Manager Miss Donna office staff down to the Maintenance Staff there is no I in this team. I have been in property management for 30 years and even though this property was built in the 1960's it appears to have been built last year or sooner Great tenants and I felt very secure there, My only regret is that I moved out to buy a place of my own for my daughter Thank you very Much Gatehouse Team and Miss Donna Stephen Zimmerman Allie C Zimmerman
I had nothing but problems since moving in at Gatehouse. The office staff are some of the most ignorant and unhelpful people. The cost of rent is outrageous, the noise level is like living in a college dorm, and security is a joke. I filed noise complaints, spoke with staff about people who lived there who were not on any lease, and noticed that security was drinking on the job. After 10 months I could not take it anymore and moved out. They kept my deposit and charged extra fees. Find another place to stay! It’s not worth the headache.
We stayed at gatehouse apartments for two years and recently moved out due to relocation out of state. This is one of the best apartments we have lived at. The management of the property is great and our leasing consultant is very nice and helpful. Maintenance is always prompt and will fix the issue in your apartment within a couple days. Most of the apartments have been renovated recently and the apartment we stayed at was brand new and awesome. Amount of security deposit we paid was reasonable and we did get full refund after moving out. Highly recommended if you are moving to the neighborhood and looking for an apartment!
it's safe... and i am a divorced woman. gated. in a part of town that's relatively crime free. i am 69 years old and i get a 10% discount on rent. not sure if that's forever. have you looked at the rent in the new orleans area since hurricane katrina? it has tripled. i use almost my entire social security check to pay rent. i like it here, and if something needs fixing the maintenance person comes right away. owned by the feil org. has 5 salt water pools and a small gym. large closets and hurricane proof windows and doors. i have been here for 6 years and i am familiar with most of my neighbors. linda maumus
This review is for my 1 bedroom, renovated, 768 sqft, second floor apartment for $920/mo. This is my first apartment. I've been living here 2 months and have no major complaints, except that it's more money than I set out to pay. But I do believe I am getting what I am paying for. Pros: -Warm: the grounds are nice, lots of plants, trees, lizards, birds, families, nice people (the few that I've talked to). It's quiet and peaceful. -Safe: never even questioned safety or security here. Pretty safe area of the city, gated access, almost always a gate guard on duty. -Location: right on the interstate. Possibly the nicest complex in the east side of Metairie. -Interior Quality: comfortable size, lots of storage space, marble counter tops, hardwood floors in kitchen and foyer, nice little balcony. -Amenities: assigned parking, exercise room, 5 pools, etc (more are listed online). -Maintenance couldn't be much faster so far. Example: fixed my AC leaking water within an hour or so. Cons: -One of the more expensive ones in Metairie. (But to me, the above pro's are worth it.) -AC dripped alot of water into my hallway (but was fixed promptly). Same thing happened to my friend. This is probably only a problem for second floor apartments. -Not a party environment, residents are on the older side. (But this makes it quiet which I like.) -My balcony is basically connected to my neighbor's, just separated by a railing (not all are like this). -Every now and then you find the visitor gate purposely left open because the guard is on break or something.
