They care more about social events than maintenance of the property. Why would I want to hang out with the same staff that overlooks promises made during lease signing?
My process of applying and being accepted for move in date was streamlined perfectly. New management has been very helpful and understanding.
Great location and units are ok if you can ignore the fact that there are endless roaches in the hallways and units. It’s disgusting and unbearable I’ve been here for a little over a year and I can’t wait to get out no one wants to come home wondering how many creepy crawlers will pop out. Management does nothing about the matter definitely not ok.
I’ve called everyday for two weeks and left so many voicemails and emails at this place and Have heard NOTHING. Ugh.

I currently reside at this dump. Pictures DO NOT REPRESENT ACTUAL APARTMENTS! Management won’t respond to messages, workers let themselves into your apartment without notice. Broke down cars everywhere. Loud music from cars 24/7. Zero stars, would not recommend.

There were so many roaches and all kinds of giant bugs inside even though we payed for pest control. They never fixed anything. We didn’t have a oven nob for the whole 6 months that we painfully lived there. At one point there was blood on the walls and the pool was closed almost all summer. Never again will I ever go back or recommend this place.
Plumbing sucks and the place is filled with roaches. I had toilet water coming up from my bathtub drain. I knew it was toilet water because pieces of tissue was coming up with the water. I didn’t trust drinking or cooking with the water. It smelled really weird and I’m almost positive it led contaminated. Why would you even rent that place out like that? Would you live like that? Those apartments should be torn down. I was killing roaches and spiders everyday. My bathroom didn’t have any outlets. TEAR THAT PLACE DOWN!
I was roped into a 15 month lease for cheaper, regretted it. I experienced the following: roaches (a lot), improper lint disposal (water box???), AC broke dozen times, carpet lining is awful (easy peeling), sidewalks flooded. I cannot speak for the new management, but the prior management hired very poor contractors for their 'newly renovated' apartments. This place was the worst place I've ever lived and I am happy that I've escaped. While there was a 'new' management afterwards, they did not improve much within the last 3-4 months of living there.
SEVERE ROACH PROBLEM NEVER STATED. Lived here less than 5 months. NOT WORTH IT. MGT gives run around and SEVERE ATTITUDE. Will blame you at every turn. Overflowing dumpsters. Overworked and underskilled maintenance. Out dated by 30+ YEARS heating and cooling. "Given appliances" OLD, OUTDATED, BEYOND GROSS CONDITION. Apartments IN HOMEMADE PATCH FIXES FOR HOLES IN THE WALLS AND DOORS. Nothing was cleaned. Upon a full self clean I FOUND POSESSIONS FROM PREVIOUS OWNERS IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS.
Such a horrible place to live. If you want to live at a place where dumpsters that are overflowing, roaches, mice, loud neighbors, a property where cars get broken into on a regular, where a shooting happened at, where the office staff says they will “get back to you” about a issue or question and they never do, or it takes 2 weeks for them to fix a maintenance issue (which has happened to me 3 times), where the office staff rarely picks up their phone, where a office staff keeps on cutting office hours, where the office staff is extremely rude, where sidewalks and parking lot floods almost every time it rains, where you regularly get people knocking on your door and wanting to save your soul, if you want to live in a area where you hear gun shots regularly, then live at the gates of west bay. Otherwise, DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!! They keep on putting more and more restrictions on the pool, it’s so stupid. They make unannounced visits to my apartment for some type of inspection or something for maintenance. Stuff has gone missing and I have requested that if they need to enter to check on fire extinguishers, the pipes, the fire alarm or whatever (which is totally fine) I just want to be there when they do it. But that request usually doesn’t get honored. I shouldn’t be scared that my stuff is going to end up missing in my own apartment. I am not renewing my lease!!! Renters beware!! DO NOT MOVE TO THE GATES OF WEST BAY!!!!!
I moved in to gates of west bay for approximately 5 months now. The apartment come as is, the carpet was not cleaned, the kitchen cabinets drawers has fallen out, the bathroom vanity has move completely away from the wall leaving water dripping from the faucet onto the floor, leaving me to pack 2 beach towels around vanity to keep me from falling on the wet floor. No maintenance on duty. Office personnel don’t answer the phones. Roach every where even in the bed crawling over you while you sleep, my car is broken into twice no lights on property, sit on my porch and watch the cars come onto property to get drugs. They asking for $35 for parking space you come home and all kinds of cars parked in your space. And when you call the tow truck you have to pay out of pocket to have other cars removed from your space. I’m asking the public wether you are military or not DO NOT move into the apartment complex. You will be sorry you did.
I would give negative stars if I could - they don't deserve even one. The new "management" cons you into to thinking you've signed yourself into this amazing deal when in all actuality give it a few months and you're quick to realized they're just in it to get a lease signed and nothing more. Shannon for one is nothing more than a two faced hustler. Smile in your face and lie thru her teeth. The entire complex itself is a joke! Outrageous RISING prices for the same out dated apartments all with "renovations" being done to the "grounds". Whatever that means. They've installed some HEAVY glass doors and started trimming their bushes and decided the people that live here need to foot the bill. Recently raised their rent prices to include pet rent, washers and dryers, storage, and parking ALL AMENITIES IN WHICH I NEVER HAD NOR NEEDED THEREFORE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR. Why pay an extra charge for a washer and dryer when I brought my own? Why am I paying pet rent if I don't have one? It's ridiculous. I could honestly go on for days about how horrible it is to live here. Don't believe me? Drive by after dark NOT A SINGLE LIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT. Extremely unsafe considering there have been over 5 break-ins in the last month alone. (Public information thru the city of Norfolk) At first the thieves were jimmying the locks but then they resulted to breaking windows and stealing entire cars completely. Don't fall for the gimmick. Take your money and run. You WILL be disappointed and practically robbed by the complex if not actually robbed by the thieves. There are no cameras, street lights, and don't even bother asking the "main office" what to do about the vadalism to your vehicle. They'll "kindly ask you to quiet down as there is nothing they can do".
Asside from having great storage & closet space, readily available maintenance in the event of an emergency, the 9 foot pool is one of the best amenities at "The Gates of West Bay".
My family and I needed a place to live and The Gates of Westbay made our application process quick and easy! Very friendly and great customer service!!
