Located just six miles northwest of Washington, DC, Bladensburg is a vibrant small town with a rich history. Bladensburg once played a key role in the War of 1812, and the town celebrates this history every year with the annual Waterfront Days festival.
Nestled alongside the Anacostia River, Bladensburg contains a scenic waterfront park, complete with a paved waterside walkway, fishing pier, and various boat rentals. Residents enjoy access to a bevy of shops and restaurants strewn along Kenilworth Avenue and Annapolis Road—the town’s major thoroughfares.
Modest shopping options also abound at the nearby Capital Plaza. Getting around from Bladensburg is simple with convenience to multiple major interstates and Metrobus service to the nearby Cheverly, West Hyattsville, and Prince George’s Plaza Metrorail stations.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Gateway Gardens Apartment Homes. We welcome all of our residents to offer suggestions. Please, contact our Resident Relations Department at residentrelations@smcmail.com to address your concerns further.
If I could give zero stars I would! PARKING IS HORRIBLE!!!!! They just called themselves making parking better. Its not! If you have more than one car this is not the apartment complex for you. You would get one parking pass and would have to pay $180 every 90 days for a second spot even though the lots are now empty. You can only use the guest spot IF available 3 nights a MONTH. On top of the ridiculous parking...obviously no one told them about global warming and they still control the air based off the schedule they used in 1950. So here we are with 80 degree days in top floor apartments burning up because the ac has been turned off! Im sure hell is cooler.
These apartments are not worth the rent they are asking for example. *They are out dated *Rat issues *Parking is terrible (new parking policy was to be put in place haven’t seen that yet) *Flooring is terrible u hear the person above you walking across the floor *Can’t have anyone to visit because there are no visitors parking. *The water is always being shut off for repairs (don’t know what that’s about). *Loud music is always being played rental office does nothing about it this. The list can go on and on with issues with these apartments.
This is the worst complex I have ever live at the parking is horrible and the rental office doesn't have anything to help the resident they have two visitor spot on ever parking lot and the same people rotate there cars you can never get a spot unless u come home at 3 o'clock. They act like they trying to help but still tell the towing company to tow people car when they park in front of someone. Then the one spot they have that can be a visitor spot they park they're big work truck in the spot.

This Apartment complex has very very very HORRIBLE Parking, just make sure you get prepared to not have visitor or family members visiting you.My tires got slashed not once but twice and they did nothing to address this issue and never followed through. i have never been in any apartment complex where it takes them ages to attend to your need and concerns very incompetent staffs at the southern management office where you call and they never get back to you. they care less if your car gets towed even when its their negligence. stay far away from this place if you love your sanity and safety. NO GOOD
Property Manager at Gateway Gardens, Responded To This Review
I am sorry to hear of your many concerns. As you know with an apartment community family sizes grow but the land does not grow to accommodate this change. Each resident feels that because they pay rent they are entitled to as many parking spaces and stickers as they wish without any regarding for any other residents and their guest. As you know the office staff is also subject to towing as with the current assigned parking our staff is often left without parking to effectively address resident needs hence the change to an open parking policy from one that guarantees a resident at minimum 1 parking spot. Unfortunately there is not a clear cut solution to resolve this issue of parking but will are continuously speaking with our residents about this issue and are in talks with our local schools to see if they will once again permit our residents to use their parking lots at night as in the past. As you know the challenge with this in the past was our residents not following through with moving their vehicles by the time specified by the school. Our office staff has and always will do everything in their power to accommodate resident requests and identify solutions to concerns that may arise understanding that not everyone will be happy all of the time we will always strive to do our best. Should you ever have any concerns please reach out to the leasing and resident services office at anytime and the maintenance department with any and all of your maintenance needs. Throughout the years that I have lived here I have suffered through some humid days and nights. There always seems to be a gap between when it gets smoldering hot outside and when the complex turns the air conditioning on. Today temperatures are expected to reach around 91 degrees and tomorrow they are excepted to reach around 91 degrees, after being 88 degrees yesterday. i understand that there are laws in place that say that an apartment complex has to offer heat until May 15th, but the complex also has some discretion with this matter. For the stake of residents with asthma and other health issues, as well as the elderly perhaps the rental office should reconsider its policies. I sincerely hope that I do not receive a notice saying that the complex "needs" my apartment and that I have to move following this honest review, which someone else suggested happened to them on here.
I've been living here for a little over a month, it's a beautiful apt. My building is great, so far so good. Love my spacious bedroom, w/ large closet! Only cons so far are the walls are thin, you can hear everything from the ppl upstairs sounds like they're gonna fall thru the floor and parking is scarce!
How funny! After leaving a negative feedback here, I received a survey which seemed to be coming from corporate offices, to leave feedback about my experience living here. After sending it, I was contacted directly by the offices here to "talk" and when replied to them that I was uncomfortable about the way the handled the surveys, even more when I complained in my survey about things I have already tried to fix in that office, and specifically stated that I wanted to be contacted by email, I received no answer back, but I did receive another ridiculous balcony fee because according to them my beautiful tables are not patio furniture. The same day the email conversation ended, in which I actually included a person from corporate, they wrote me a later saying that I have to leave the unit because they "needed it". I received the letter by mail days after and when called to inquire why they responded that is not an eviction, and that they have nothing against us, but that because we are paying (on time) month to month, they have the "right" to put us in the street if the "need" the unit... Interesting! Overall:Noise:Neighborhood:Grounds:Maintenance:Safety:Staff: Last Updated: 09/21/16 Report Anonymous
living here has been very stressful. For Rent: they give you 5 extra days to pay rent after the end of the month, if you don't do that, they immediately sue you to court. and they charge you $78 dollars each day until you pay. For PARKING: there is never parking. At 6.30pm the parking lot is full with cars. Cars get towed like crazy. if you park on the street your car will get broken into NEIGHBORS: very nosey people, always hanging outside talking, yelling, smoking, drinking. the summer months are very terrible because its always noisy. MAINTAINANCE: they come when they feel like it APPLIANCES : old and painted over . LAUNDRY: they have 4 little fun size machines for washing and drying in each building. The people at the rental office can be snobbish. just a few of the girls are related This place is like a revolving door, people move in and out I guess that's why they always have apartments available.
I love living here. So far all the neighbors are friendly and the apartment home is clean a spacious. The location is close to the Baltimore Washington Parkway, Walmart and other shops. Parking can sometimes be an issue that I have noticed they are working on fixing. Maintenance is quick and efficient. Love it here!
After graduating from college 2 years ago I moved to the DC Metro area and moved to Gateway Gardens. This apartment is managed by Southern Management. The complex is located in an okay area. The crime isn't high but you should still practice safe living. I haven't had too many issues with the neighborhood but their may be 1 or 2 maintenance issues you encounter. Also the biggest problem is the parking. If you have out of state tags you can not park on the property. You can only use a visitors pass to park in the complex and there are restrictions to the use of the visitors parking. Aside from the parking issue this is decent neighborhood. Best for recent college graduates or someone with few kids. Its's located close to DC and its metro accessible. Its about 30 minutes from Baltimore. Andrews AFB and Fort Meade are both about 25 minutes away. Reagan Airport is 15 minutes away and BWI is 30 minutes away. There are a few children's parks in complex, along with a huge pool. Elementary, Middle, and High schools are within 5-8 minutes walking distance.
Lived in this community for over 3 years now and I like the community it is very quite. The location is close to schools and shopping. Maintenance is always available when needed and the Rental office staff is very polite and helpful.
Apartment is ok...the area does need improvement but beside that its ok. Transferring for current residents is difficult because there are never no apartments available to transfer but when someone new apply the apartments are available. The staff are rude most of the time especially when it comes to resolving issues that they cost.
There are both pros and cons of living here, but I definitely enjoy being a resident. oll try to be as detailed as possible. In regards to the staff, they are very friendly. I sometimes get irritated at the way things are handled, but they do make efforts to get things taken care of. I was quite irritated once they had forgotten to put in a maintenance request I called about, however the maintenance coordinator was sure to have it done right away once she was aware. They also offer different events for residents throughout the year which I enjoy. They are also good about sending important notices. Maintenance has always been excellent which smoke of the best parts about living here. They are very prompt about their work and are sure to leave notes about what was done in your home. When I moved in, there were no corrections that were needed which I enjoyed as well as the brand new carpet! I have yet to have any major issues. In regards to my neighbors, I haven't had any issues. They are pretty respectable and quiet which I appreciate. On weekends you can expect to hear a little more noise, but nothing above the norm. The apartment itself is very nice for the pice to pay. I definitely love having all utilities included. The only thing that bothers me is the way the living/ dining room is configured. You can tell there used to be a wall where there is now an open kitchen policy which is really cute but also takes away wall space. Based on your apartment size, you really would need to consider your furniture sizing and placement. I like the bathroom space but as a female I wish the mirror was larger. My room is huge which I LOVE as well as the closet space which is double sided. The WORST most annoying part about living here is the parking. There aren't enough parking spaces to accommodate the residents which forces you to have to get home by a certain time just to get a decent space. Some days you may be lucky, but having to park two buildings behind my building with children and groceries is beyond ridiculous. There are a lot of "disabled" people that live on the community as well so they assign them private spaces which contributes to the lack of space available for everyone else. I forgot to mention pests. I have yet to have any major issues. I usually might catch a spider or ant but I feel as though that's manageable. All in all this is a great place to live. Hope this helps.
This Apartment is the best apartment I have seen in the Maryland area. Its very spacious and beautiful and more than enough is offered renting a unit here. I love it.
It is a good place to live and the neighbors are nice. You are only a few steps away from two elementary schools and one high school. All utilities are included, and sense they implemented new parking regulations, parking has gotten better. The only down side is if you have children there isn't many things for your child to do around in the area and may have to travel to find different things to do.
The good... The space Bedroom Size Bedroom Closets Open Kitchen Utilities Included Quiet Nice size balcony The cleaning crew cleans the inside of the building daily They give back to the community The Bad!... Falling on the snow because it's not cleared Trash area Pool location The UGLY!... THE PARKING IS THE WORSE!!! I've had to park 8 or more buildings away on multiple occasions There's no street parking They start towing cars without resident parking passes at 8pm Visitors can only park in marked visitor spaces but not all buildings have visitor parking They're always putting notices in the door The water seems to be cut off during business hrs at least once a month for some kind of maintenance
