Property Ratings at Gateway Village Apartments
Not anywhere close to enough parking. Single dumpster which is not centrally located, so I hope the idea of taking the trash out in your car sounds appealing to you. Office staff in my experience weren't terrible, just inexperienced; turnover seems very high, I think they went through three or four different front desk people in the year and a half we lived here. The person who dealt with our move out “forgot” to schedule an in-person walkthrough, and the complex decided to charge us our whole deposit and more for “cleaning.” You will not get your security deposit back.

They don’t take responsibility even its their employess fault. I end up owing money coz the employee didn’t put a not when I called to the office that Im moving out within 30 days. Manager will entertain you but will not do anything about it. Management sucks. Moldy place. Stinky carpets. Broken heater. If you will request a maintenance, they will only go there to check it but will not do anything about it. They they will marked it tinthe apps that its been fixed. DONT RENT HERE..!!!!

I have had to adjust my review since living here. I have lived at this property going on 4 years now, and while I have enjoyed living here, I recently transferred apartments and have been blindsided. To make a long story short, I was approved originally to move in years ago with $1000 deposit on top of first months rent, which is ridiculous but I managed. I've recently transferred and was approved for a transfer at $500 deposit. OK no big deal, less than before and at least I will get my other deposit back, right? WRONG Despite the apartment being spotless when I left it, they have charged me almost $900 for "cleaning" "paint/wall repair" "carpet cleaning." With the subtraction of the last months rent as well, I ended up OWING them almost $200. Needless to say I will be pursuing legal action to get that money back as it is exorbitantly higher than industry rates for ALL charges. MDI management has a reputation in Salem for being conniving, money grabbers, and largely neglects their properties despite constantly raising rates. Just drive by, you'll see the siding flying off the building, and it will stay on the ground for a few months. I am NOT HAPPY at all with how this is being handled.

Don’t waste your hard earned money living in a dumb of a place. Every critical review is accurate. Way overpriced and management is a constant turn style. You will not have your needs met or even considered. Soley a money grab operation. The dumpster can’t hold the amount of tenants trash and there is constant overflow outside of the dumpster area that spreads throughout the property as the wind blows it. I have lived here one year and it’s only getting worse.

Gateway Village is not what it is stating it is. There is poor upkeep outisde of the units. (No cleaning of outside fixtures, vaccuming of carpeting or repair of chipped pain on railings). There are no security camera's. There is only one small garbage area for ALL residents, with many having to drive their garbage to site. The garbage bin is often full, and messy. There is a fine if you leave garbage out. If full, the resident must drive their garbage back to their unit, and hope for the best the next day. The Leasing Policies are applied inconsistently. There is a large leasing staff turn over, making it impossible to connect with even one person in the office. The units are cheaply built. Each unit is like a dorm room when it comes to noise. (You can hear someone sneeze in the next unit). Maintence leaves a mess behind them when fixing anything. (One even stood on my TV stand as opposed to a ladder, causing a big dent in it). There is no designated area's for dogs to "do their business". It's like living in the middle of a dog park. I could go on, but It would take too much time.

We really liked the actual apartments, they were nice apartments in a great location that was close to a lot and not too busy, and anytime we interacted with employees they were always really nice.. BUT, I would NOT recommend these apartments to friends, family, or anyone that I really care about. Our neighbors were noisy at all hours day and night. In order to submit a noise complaint we had to take a video in which you can hear the noise, which we did multiple times, and the noise continued right up till the day we moved out. we constantly had kids peeking in our windows, which wasn't a huge deal but was still a little annoying. kids would also kick balls against the side of our apartment on sunny days. There was also a big patch of weeds by our back patio that was never taken care of (like a 6x6 slab of dirt that was full of weeds). when we moved in the apartment was not cleaned well at all, the bathrooms and kitchen both looked like someone had just moved out the day before we moved in.. and the outside closet had mouse poop and spiders literally everywhere. We put in a work order for our dryer at one point because it was no longer drying clothes, so they came to fix it and left a note saying they couldn't get behind the dryer, which I later did by myself in about 15 minutes and removed a big clump of crap out of the dryer vent, which also sums up their ability to fix most of the problems we had. To top it off, we got charged about 3/4 of our deposit for them to do touch up paint, and clean the carpets, which was all left in better condition than when we arrived. We thought for sure we would get most of it back like we had at other apartments, but that was not the case. I've lived at apartments that cost almost half as much as gateway that treated me 100x better. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. Oh yeah and someone cut through my bike lock with bolt cutters to steal my bike.

I really like it here at Gateway Village. The office staff is wonderful and the maintenance crew is tops!
Gateway has very clean apartments and nice people. I go in the office every day to have some coffee and to eat cookies! The staff take time to chat with me and are real fast at fixing problems in my apartment.
These are the perfect apartments if you have children or just want to live in a family friendly apartment unit. They have a large pool for the summer month and a HUGE perk of living here is the $19 a month gym membership at Courthouse (which normally cost $59 a month). Every one here is so friendly, the staff and the neighbors. Also, the walls and floors/ceilings are built so well that I almost never hear what my neighbors are up to. In addition everything is super well maintained and everything is smoke free. All in all we love living here and plan to stay for a while.
It is a wonderful place, the apartments are wonderful. I love living here, the pool is always cleaned and refilled. They are speedy with work orders and the management is all around nice people. I would recommend living at The Gateway Village Apartments to my friends.
There is no air conditioning in most apartmemt, bo visitor parking unless you rent the highest cost rentals, it's incredibly noisy, dirty parking lot, unenforced parking and noise rules and a LOT higher than listed after "fees" -nearly $100 more.
Watch out for deceptive contract, for example, I signed a 6 months leases, moving in on 6/7/13, Heather, the former office staff said our lease would be up on 12/7. It turn out that the lease ended at the end of December, which technically you are signing a 7 months lease instead of a 6 months leased. Heather is no longer employ with them. ***Beware of the date on cover sheet on the contract*** I can't wait to move out of this place. ***If you have roommate, each roommate cannot send in their portion of the rent.*** This complex is very close to freeway and a lot of the tenant love to speed through the complex late at nigh. It's pretty noisy in the evening at the complex....
...but that is it. We lived there for 5 years between two different units and the office staff changed at least 3 times. Maintenance response is very slow. Neighbors are LOUD (screaming 911, etc). For the price, I would really expect better quality. We got a warning for putting up snowflakes in our windows and were told we have to take them down after the first of the year (even though that is a winter decoration). There are many things we hated about this place, but most of all, after we left they charged us for oven drip pans that we replaced (with the correct model), and for a carpet cleaning when they were going to replace the carpet. When I called to ask about this, after three messages and speaking to someone who left a message for the lady in charge, I got no response. They are not professional, don't waste your money, there are better apartments out there for WAY less hassle. Apartments that actually care if you like living there...
